love nolly's tone! also alot of bassists i like seems to be heading over to these but is there a cheaper pedal that can get close?

ie while i save up the 340 odd quid for a new one!!!

ive tried the boss odb-3 and that gives a more fuzz kinda sound, never tried an sansamp but as that seems to be more about going for an svt kinda sound which the b7k is not any suggestions?

Yeah, if price is an issue then try the b3k it's the same drive circuit just without the EQ or DI
its the added eq that i kinda like the look of!!

i feared this would be the response sadly, looks like i bbetter see if anyone wants a kidney!?

Just wait til Behringer get their mitts on one

Lol !

It's true about the B3K/B7K. I have been through a horde of pedals and only the Darkglasses really did that tone. If you are trying to emulate it with other pedals it would have to involve a signal splitter/mixer, a dist pedal plus, probably, an EQ ..... so that would work out more pricy than a B3K.

this is true i used to used a ehx metal muff and an ls-2 but it would lose to much of the actual note in fuzz unless you dialed the distortion back, the b3/7k seem to be able to get super distorted yet theres always the note clarity.

Apparently the Grunt switch is where the magic is at. It adjusts the crossover so that it lets lower frequencies get distorted. This basically means that even if you have the blend knob at 100% wet, you still have a clean low end!

This is mildly on-topic... But my band was recently supported by a metal outfit with 1 bass, 1 guitar, drums and 1 vocalist. The bassist used an Ibanez SR505 through my Markbass rig... The only pedal he used was a Boss ODB-3. No mods. I can honestly say he had one of the best live bass sounds I've ever heard! It sat in the mix perfectly and sounded really natural and organic!

Nice mod.

But wouldn't the B3 be capable to sound like this?
If you mean the Darkglass B3K, then yes definitely! I know which would be cheaper though ;)

Saying that, I'd personally prefer the B3K!

I also love the Karnivool bassist's tone too and as I understand it he used an ODB-3 stock and a Tech 21 XXL pedal. - Yes, I'd love the B7k, but should I pull my finger out, I kinda like the fun that a bit of modding may bring - especially if it turns out a killer tone. I *think* the ODB-3 will sound like it has more gain when modded. Though I can't say for certain.

I've got to say, the modded ODB-3 did sound amazing in those clips!

I think what I want to do is try going "Comp > Sansamp > B3k" ... I have a sneaking suspicion that part of the magic of the B3k is in the mids though so depending on the results I might have to reconsider the Sansamp!

No, sorry, I was referring to the Zoom B3.

Since you and Dood own the B3, I was wondering if the B3 was capable to get near the sound of the modded ODB3.

Ahh my bad :)

I haven't fiddled around with the drive settings all that much on it to be honest, as I wasn't too impressed with them. I imagine there will be some good possibilities if you mixed one of them with an EQ, since they have a clean blend, but that would take up two slots.
