[/quote] Yeah, I see your point (and I don't take it as a dig, worry not!). I don't feel like I'm skimping on the level of protection with ER20s or Alpine, as they still offer a decent level of attenuation and my ears don't ring after a gig or rehearsal. What decibel reduction is a sensible number? They used to be good for a very noisy band, but my most recent band was quieter (sometimes drummer played with straws and we played mostly pubs) and I just couldn't get on with them as they attenuated too much. I'd either not use them or leave them half-out of my ears, which would still cause a bit of ringing... So I'd recommend 20 for very loud, noisy rock bands, but 15 to play pubs/functions/weddings.
