Macko1968 Posted April 29, 2008 Share Posted April 29, 2008 (edited) Folks I'm in need of some ideas on the amp (combo or head/cab) front & would appreciate your input. Currently playing a Lakland Bob Glaub & very much in to finger style funk with a bit of slap - think Tower Of Power meets Larry Graham. I won't be gigging so volume is not an issue, but neither is size / weight. My budget is £400 - £700 & one more thing, I cannot have anything with that carpet effect covering because the b@stard cat will use it as a scracthing post! All ideas gratefully received. If you are sure you are never going to gig you dont need lots of watts you want bags of tone and probably a compressor if you are determined to slap. rodl2005 Posted May 1, 2008 Share Posted May 1, 2008 (edited) I'll put in a Vote for an ASHDOWN - ???? five-fifteen I think the model is. 15" spkr & 100w. NICE vintage sound that can easily be "modernised" w/ EQ. I had to use one -as it was supplied as a backline at a small jazz club gig a while ago- it was DI'd outta it's line out & both FOH & stage sound was lovely!!! Loud enough for small gigs too & easy to transport & all in one unit!!! Otherwise I'd say go for a Mark Bass LMII & a cab of some sort to match- either a 2x10", 1x12" or 1x15" I use mine with an Aguilar GS112-LMII into GS112- makes a wicked small rig with PLENTY of power & versatility. EDIT: I'm in Aus. so don't really know the $$$ of the amps there Hope I help some. I'm sure the 5-15 Ahdown isn't very much $$$! A LMII & Aguilar GS112 would be considerably more-but also have lotsa more power! I know you don't want carpeted, but have a look at their combos & buy catboots I have the 210 combo & it's loud. bassguppy Posted May 2, 2008 Share Posted May 2, 2008 I have 4 cats. What I did to keep them away from the ratfur cabs is put a scratching post in the room with the amp. It may take a little training but it works. You could also cover the cab/amp with a sheet when not in use. The cats have only scratched the cabinet only once or twice since I put a post in the room. Something small, 100 watts with a 1x12 speaker and a headphone socket would do the job.
