Fender Precision CIJ 70s reissue, vintage white, rw, modified with EMG P/J - WITHDRAWN

I'm selling my modified Fender CIJ 70s reissue precision.

The bass and hardware are all original, except that it has been fitted with an EMG P/J set.

On the plus side, the EMGs sound fantastic. The P sounds like a good traditional P pickup, but with a bit more clout. The J gives some nice Jazz tones. And the two equally blended is my favourite setting - effectively a P tone, but with a tighter bottom end from the J. The pickups are active, and run off a single 9 volt battery. A battery compartment has been added at the back of the bass for easy access. There is no on board pre-amp - the controls are tradition V/V/T, with a side jack added. It is fitted with schaller strap locks.

This bass plays like a dream and has been my main gigging bass for years. Which leads to the down side - it has the battle scares to show for it! It has acquired a fair few scratches over the years, and three or four larger dings and marks. The machine heads are original and although not exactly tarnished, are a bit duller than new. I've tried to show all that in the pictures, but if you are looking to buy a cosmetically perfect bass, this is not it! On the other hand, it is genuinely roadworn!

A couple of other points. The jack plate fits snuggly, but there is a very small gap in the routing at the top edge, which I've tried to show on one of the pictures. And the final bit of character - the tone knob is slightly different to the two volume knobs (although you have to look closely!).

I'm only selling as I have just bought another P/J Precision on here, and can't justify having four Precisions! It's an overused phrase, but I will genuinely be sorry to see it go.

Price is tricky given the cosmetics, and the mods, but I would be happy to take [s]£450[/s] £390, ideally collected.

I'm based in Nottingham, although am regularly in Birmingham, Manchester and Norwich and happy to meet up within an hour or so's drive of any of those places.

I'm not sure of the age, and will check the serial number when I get home tonight. I bought it on ebay, and from memory it's around 10years old.

Edit - just checked on line. The serial is O followed by 6 digits, which apparently dates a CIJ at between 1997 and 2000. So a bit older than I thought. Practically vintage in fact

I was hoping you'd say Glasgow or Southampton to kill my temptation, I'm in Mansfield. Buggar.

Well, when I said Nottingham, it's actually Kirkby in Ashfield - so 15 minutes from you! You're welcome to have a no-obligations look...

It was basically fitted where it looked best! I would say it was nearer the 60s position though.

Edit - I've measured it and compared to my Classic Vibe Jazz, the pickup is a bit nearer the bridge. So I would say somewhere between the 60s and 70s position.

I'd love to have either the justification or the money to buy this, great bass at a great price. I'm going to rummage around in the furniture when i get home to see if I can rustle up the necessary coinage (no joke, we sold a sofa recently and I pulled out about £25 before it went) :D

I've just measured the position of the J pickup, as there have been a few queries. It's actually a bit closer to the bridge than on my Classic Vibe Jazz, so its probably fair to say it is somewhere between the 60s position and 70s position. I've edited the posts above to reflect that.

Some interest, but still for sale at the moment!
