La Cabronita 'Porazzo' Custom Precision Build

Hi Folks,

Following me falling in love with the Fender CS La Cabronita Porazzo Precision that I played down in GAK lately, I thought long and hard about buying the bass. At the end of the day, I could not justify the outlay, but she is one hell of a nice guitar. I started a whole heap of research into getting a copy built.

I came across the name Marc Rutter from Rutter Guitars http://ruttersguitar...m/About_Us.html in the USA. Marc is almost unknown on this forum, in fact I started a thread asking if anyone had heard of him, and very little came forth. However in the Telecaster and Gretsch world his hardware and builds are highly regarded and very well respected.

This is a Marc Rutter Replica La Cab Bass..

I was just about to commission a full-blown build from Marc, but the final price this end was getting to the point where I thought I may as well buy the Fender, Although I think Marc's bass looks better, certainly the bridge which comes in for much criticism on the Fender.

I decided to source parts separately, and maybe to build and finish myself. Although I'm getting some quality stuff, so most likely will leave it in the hands of a pro. This will not be a cheap build, and most of the parts are coming fron the USA, so expect posts about tax and handling charges, but it will beat the CS price. Maybe at the end I'll post up all the costs, and hopefully it will have been worthwhile effort. I also hope to have a bass better than the Fender.

So, following an afternoon off work today, I'm pleased and proud to announced that my credit card has taken a hammering for the following...

Hi billyapple,

Just wanted to point out the pickup hole shape & actual pickup shape are going to be OK as your list has 2 different shaped bits listed?

Cheers,
Jon

Yes. Thanks for that, my typing. The body will be routed for the TV Jones pick-up :)

Nice one and a cool build in the making!
If you don't mind telling - How much roughly will your build come in at?

Cheers,
Jon

Thanks Jon,

I might post up a break-down of everything at the end, but that is a might. Anyway, I've just ordered the stuff today, I'll have to wait and see what happens when things come into the UK. The other unknowns are body finishing, electrics and building. We'll see.

Cheers!

Thanks guys.. Aint life grand! :D

Had confirmation from Warmoth that the neck can be sent to Marc Rutter. A concern has been that two outfits are making me things in another country, and obviously I want everything to fit together here with no fuss. I think Marc getting the neck first will cure my worries.

I also have to state the following...

Communication from Warmoth has been excellent http://www.warmoth.com/

Communication from Marc Rutter has been excellent http://ruttersguitars.com/

After reading about Kevin's '50's Pink P Bass Refin http://basschat.co.u...hl__pink%20bass I've been thinking about a shell pink finish.

Here's a mock-up..

What do you think?

I think it takes a man to be pink! ;)

Are you open to colour suggestions..? Vintage white with black pickguard. Always looks class with maple.
And would be the opposite of the pic in your OP. My 2p! :D

Thanks, It's in the pot now. Although I've been giving much thought to the pink ;)

Sure, I can see it - it's very valid. But - like a raunchy tattoo - will you live to regret it..??

You know what, I went to bed last night with this running through my head, and the colour I woke up with this morning was black with the white guard. Who'd of thought it?

Heh! :D But there already exist many with that colour scheme, albeit in a limited edition... personally I'd go for something unique, unless of course you want people to think you've bought a £2,500 bass... ;) Which is fair enough.

Here's another thought... hi-gloss dakota red with black pickguard. :)

I bet they quietly stuffed a card through your door and quickly legged it.

I live in a flat in a large converted house. Plod can never be bothered to put the mail through all four doors. I'm number 1 at the front, so all the letters get stuffed in my box :o . Royal Mail very kindly gives me all my neighbours bank and credit card details! How do you think I'm funding this build?! ;)

Only joking, of course. But seriously, they do
