Cash is not acceptable?!?!?!

Recommended Posts

I spotted this just been put back up, and I remember it having bids on....

"This item has been relisted as I previously stated that I would accept cash as a form of payment, which it seems infringes eBays rules. My apologies to everyone who had placed a previous bid."

How odd.... I've done several deals where I've met the person and paid in readies....

When has that come in? seems like they (ebay) are trying to dictate how you buy it? Can they do that?

Incidently I may have a pop at the Ashbory as its Black and I fnacy a noodle with one....

Anyone got an idea of how much they should fetch 2ndhand?

bob.

I've just done a search on ebay policies and found that they don't recommend it, because "Cash isn't traceable, there is no way to prove payment was or wasn't made and it can get lost or stolen in the post.". Nowhere does it say you can't, which is what I expected. I did read recently that Australians are going to be forced to use paypal only, and was worried that we were getting shafted in the same way.

Last time I checked this auction, it got to £96 I think.

I've had sales pulled in the past for stating in the listing that I'd accept cash by recorded delivery only (i.e. I was stating that people should NOT send cash by any other means), we're only talking £10-£50 but eBay pulled them all the same. TBH they want the whole world to use PayPal and thus world banking domination will follow... they are tw*ts!

Yeah i won't send cash in the mail, that's just silly. If i use cash it will be in person and no other time. As gareth said, it can work well if you're careful, i've bought and sold a few expensive things and my mates are always like sam you should stop using ebay, you'll get scammed. Not if i'm careful, and i haven't yet.

I just sold a bass on the Warwick forum, half the cash up front, by bank transfer, half the cash on delivery, by bank transfer, and about 10 e-mails between us so we both knew what was going on.

I would not feel comfortable with that kind of deal on ebay - perhaps I am over-cautious.

Would that have been a NT 5 string Thumb destined for Flo? :)

Seriously, if eBay had their way you'd not be able to do anything unless it was transacted through eBay and PayPal. It won't be long before you have to use their ISP or have an email account with them or some other way of binding you so that they can control things and squeeze more money out of you. I say all of this but I still buy and sell on eBay every single day... not found an alternative way to fuel my disorder yet :)

How long before they do it the other way round?
E.g "We have detected you are using a different PC than usual. Please call this number to verify your identity. Calls charged at £1 per minute."

No - a 4-string fretless Bubinga Corvette and a 5-string fretless Swamp-ash Corvette. My orignal post was about the 4-string, which went to a long serving menber of their forum, and the 5-string to a newby who posted in 'wanted'. He lives just down the road from me and paid cash when he collected.

Yes I knew about the Corvette but I'd heard that Flo picked up a Thumb 5 from the UK... so 2 + 2 = 5 :)

Despite reading the page and the links, I'm not clear how this works. Collecting IP addresses clearly isn't going to work, since most people are on DHCP broadband accounts anyway and don't have fixed IP addresses. So what information are they using to identify a particular computer, the MAC address? Wonder whether this has any implications for privacy.
