That sucks. Hope you get your bass soon. Whilst you wait, you could pick up a copy of Bass Guitar for Dummies and jump to chapter 5 - Understanding Major and Minor Structures (unless of course you know this stuff already) and get some good solid theory behind you for when your bass arrives. This chapter was the lightbulb moment for me and I'm still learning bits from it now.

Bass Guitar for Dummies is good, if rather American in style - not really to my taste.

The Bass Handbook by Adrian Ashton is also good, http://www.amazon.co...39008473&sr=1-1
It covers much the same stuff, but I prefer it.

Cool absolute music is like a hour away from me, stringing doesn't seem that much different that the guitar:). You guys had me worried it was something more difficult than that, though I haven't strung a guitar for over 5 years.

Easier if anything ;)

Welcome to the bass world and most importantly Bass Chat :)

Word of advice, keep away from the marketplace, you'll get a bad addiction XD

Did your bass arrive today?? It might be an idea to post your location - you might find a BCer who's local who'll give you a few pointers..

I cross my fingers for you.

My first bass was a SR Ibanez too. Good instrument thin neck, active/passive PJ pickups and... a dark metallic blue color. I loved it.

Welcome to the low frequencies playground... :D

^Thanks, at the moment its just day 1 but having real problems stretching my fingers out from fret 1-3 already. I thought the smaller fretboard would alleviate that issue but after a 2 hours practising my hand kills now.

Still going to stick to finger walking but the sounds from the sounds aren't the warm low sound you expect from a bass, instead it sounds choppy and lots of buzzzz.

Yeah, the stretch at the bottom end of the neck can be a bit of a killer when you first start playing but it does get easier. As do the aching forearms - take a break when that starts to happen.

Are you practicing through computer monitors? I really doesn't take much to make many of them crap out by playing a bass through them as they're not really designed with that in mind, The usual advice applies when your speakers are complaining - turn down the bass eq or volume, or both.

Can't remember if anyone mentioned Scott Devine's bass lessons site. Great lessons, great player and very likeable guy so you can easily sit through all of his videos :) http://scottsbasslessons.com/

Glad your bass arrived and don't worry about it being difficult at the moment, it will all just come with practice. Scott did a great video lesson on walking basslines: http://scottsbasslessons.com/walking-bass-lines/walking-bass-beginner-1.html. There's a second part too. They were so helpful to me that I bought his backing track pack (should be linked to from the lesson page above). The bit in one of my tracks from 4:20 onwards is a direct result of watching Scott's lesson: http://soundcloud.com/mornats/elude so it helped me straight away. In fact, I did all of the bassline for this one after watching Scott's lesson and pretty much took in his whole I III V structure advice. So thanks Scott! :)
