artisan Posted April 16, 2008 Share Posted April 16, 2008 (edited) funny you should mention it--i just sold 2 jazzes & my warwick & bought a MIA 62 reissue P + a MIM P . why-well they just sound right to me & they're so uncomplex that i find i just get on with playing them instead of messing with onboard preamps et..hence i enjoy it more. s_u_y_* Posted April 16, 2008 Share Posted April 16, 2008 Luckily I satisfied my P GAS just before the sudden demand. I've always wanted a good P bass for a long time, but I could never find one. Then I discovered my hankering for a Fender Jazz, and I thought the S-1 switch would cover those tones for me. I was wrong. For some of the basslines in my band, I knew I needed pure thump but without the mud. Tait Posted April 16, 2008 Share Posted April 16, 2008 i did have a couple of days a go, but remembered ive already got a precision! 3 between me and my dad, in fact. it was a lovely looking mexican precision on ebay, in ice blue metallic. it was going quite cheap because it was pick up only, finished on £195, and it was really close to me. didn't get it though, i like my precision and have just been on a shuker course, so i didn't need it. john_the_bass Posted April 16, 2008 Share Posted April 16, 2008 i've got two. i think when i first started playing bass, it's THE bass i associated with "bass" if you know what i mean i think it's the one tone that fits easily into any style of music (although i'm sure some would argue with me). Sean Posted April 16, 2008 Share Posted April 16, 2008 This one is new to me and I acquired it from one of our more prolific BC posters. Some of you may have seen it before in a thread. It's had a replacement bridge put on and a set of DiMarzio pups put on and it sounds glorious and plays beautifully. The DMs retain the vintage sound but just make it that little bit bigger and slightly more defined. I'll sort out some better pics at the weekend and put them in the porn section. paul, the Posted April 17, 2008 Share Posted April 17, 2008 I think they're a bass that you can rely on to fit into a band. Jazzes usually sound too thin or prominent for me. They may not be awe-inspiring in the shop, but they'll cut the best track. Despite them doing this since the '50s, it seems many bassists are only starting to figure this out. I blame the '80s.
