'Bass playing chair' for around £50?

There was a topic a while back made for the purpose of finding a decent chair to sit down and play bass in. There were a few suggestions but most were over £100 and I can't see myself stretching to that sort of money just for a chair.

So does anyone have any good budget suggestions for something comfortable but that can also be sat in for 8+ hours if needed?

I've been using one of these from Ikea for practising http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/S59873076/ it allows me to sit up straight, with my bass sitting on my knee, heels on the cross bar, nice and comfy. Of course this chair is good for my body shape YMMV.

The best seats for bass guitar that I have used are good quality drum stools with a back rest. The big padded ones, not the small circular seat.
No idea about price but if you are sat on it for over 8 hours it's got to be worth getting something decent.

I bought a MEY adjustable stool from Thomann for the wife when she broke her foot, she had to sing and do a Jessie J it was about £120. but now its mine and is great.

I guess the general opinion is that anything worth sitting in for that long needs to cost a bit more 'ey?

Cheers for all the input although i'm still a bit skeptical about the whole thing. There are some pretty cheap armless office chairs for the sub £50 mark and would probably suffice.

Also, my only concern about a stool is that it's not something i'd be used to playing on, however Thomann do what appears to be a great one for around £80. Maybe i'll have to see if anyone owns one.

i wouldn't advise one of the stools with a back, i had one for a while and it's fine for an hour or so but any longer isn't very comfortable, i found it made me lean forward all the time as the "backrest" just cut across my lower back and that didn't help my posture at all. have you had a browse of ikea yet? the first place i would head is the bargain corner, they sell off the returns and the shop demonstration items, you might pick up one of the really nice chairs for a decent discount.

failing that have a quick check of how much it would cost to visit a chiropractor a couple of times, the price difference of a properly comfortable chair won't seem so big compared to back pain! (i speak as a man who suffers)

if you're going to sit in it for 8 hours a day i'd say that a good chair is a worthwhile investment.

Nowhere near £50 - this is double that and that's before you add the optional backrest.

On the other hand, it's bloody comfortable, has a foot rest too, is completely adjustable, and you can even play double bass while sitting on it.

If that's your fancy.

Cheers for the suggestion. In fact, I was having a look at this [url="http://www.thomann.de/gb/thomann_stehhilfe.htm"]http://www.thomann.de/gb/thomann_stehhilfe.htm[/url] and it looked great really. My only concern is that i'm not sure if my bass would sit comfortable on my knees as I have never played on a stool before (that was high enough that my feet weren't on the ground) and also I do have rather short legs. However, a stool with an adjustable foot rest looks great so again, thank you for the suggestion. How long have you played bass on it before getting uncomfortable?
