I've noticed a pattern

It dawned on me the other day:
A few years ago, I was in a fairly casual band, we start taking it a bit more seriously, I get myself a decent bass, I got kicked out.
Last year, I'd been in a band for nearly two years, I got myself a really nice bass, I got kicked out.

Also, I've noticed that in my musical life I seem to have cycles of two busy years followed by a quiet year (this is due to be a quiet one)

Not surprising, really. Its a case of grow or die and a lot of projects never get past the occasional gig and, consequently, people get frustrated and move on, psychologically or physically, so changes are made etc.

Either that or, when you buy a new bass, you turn into a bass trainspotter and piss everyone off!!

I'm guilty of this I'm afraid... only the other day I was talking to our sax player and one of the backing vocalists about amp and speaker impedance matching etc and finally realised I had mistaken them for people who give a f*ck!

With first band, the others wanted to become a shoe gazy, whiney acoustic duo. They fizzled out about six months later.
The second band wanted to sound more like recordings thay'ed made a few years before with a double bass player, they had a chance to get him back for a gig and (were at least up front about it) kicked me out. They now have a bass player who is a usually resident in Spain, I give them six months.
Both bands were full of praise for the new bass for at least two weeks, how much better the band sounds with it etc.

You'd have bored me to death, and I know what you're talking about!

Do you know how many nerds it took to make this PC and the software? Do you know how they did it?

Me neither, and it's the same with bass gear.

Just know about playing better.
