SOLD --German Flatback Circa 1880's - Tim Batchelor restored Double Bass For Sale w/Full Circle Pick Up

This is a great bass for jazz/orchestral playing. I've owned it for 7 years now, bought from Tim Batchelor in Leicester, and had several jobs done on it.
The bass bar has been replaced which has given it more bottom end. It has an adjustable bridge with a FULL CIRCLE pick up, & had the fingerboard shot, all by Samuel Wells at Roger Dawson's workshop.
It has the original Pine Top, Scroll (quite worn) and Sycamore Back & Sides. The appearance is quite mottled, with many dents and it shows it's years, but sounds great and could be restored aesthetically.
Thick brass machine heads, very sturdy. One is slightly loose due to a repaired peg, a bit of blue tack stops the rattle when playing. A new one is easy to buy, I haven't because it's been my regular gigging bass and I've got by with the blue tack!
It has quite a wide ebony finger board, with D'Addario Helicore Hybrid Strings fitted.

It's been valued at £3500. I'm asking this price all inclusive, including the pick up (worth another £200). If your interested I'm in Leeds, West Yorkshire. To arrange to come and try it out call on 07941921707.

I'm now reducing my asking price to offers around 3K.

Yo Floyd,

I'll be in London the 31st March - a week on Saturday. If you wanna check out this beautiful bass, I could bob it in the van. I'll be at Wembley so not sure how easy it would be to meet, but let me know if your interested.

#Cheers

This might answer your question:

Yours looks like a lovely bass though, if it sounds as good you should have no trouble shifting it. I am aware that, TheG is after a bass in this price range... I met up with him last week. His thread is here:

Hi - Jake - I may be heading Birmingham way, nothing planned now but if a gig comes in then I'll get in touch.

Clarky - same as above really - I'll get in touch if I am working down there.

I'll try and get some decent footage up on youtube so you guys can hear it.

Cheers

It pretty much exactly fulfills my criteria in the search I have on BC but the distance is tricky. hence I'm really looking forward to the YouTube footage Emlyn :)

When I bough Greg's flatback he was kind enough to send me several video/sound clips, and even went as far as changing strings for some to allow me to hear the difference it made. This made a big difference to my thinking because although Greg's tone probably isn't my tone (his is of course far better), it showed me what the instrument could do. I have to say, the process was thorough and I'm very happy with the outcome.

Hi,

Here's a video my mate took this afternoon whilst I had my lunch break.

It's a montage of clips I did in a rush, so it's purely for the sound of the bass - please see it as that - I'd not really prepared anything for a demo!!

Thanks Marvin,

You guys can hear it on (preview play option) http://www.andydavisonmusic.com/ 'The City Song' - recorded by these guys with a portable setup at my house - I think it was a rhodes NT2 and then mixed later.

I was really impressed by the quality.

Hi, cheers Geoff - glad you like the bass (and the vid!)

Hi Clarky, I don't have a spare case unfortunately as my new bass came delivered from Germany in a fibre glass case that only just fits in my estate, so I need my soft case for gigs.

Yes cash sale.
