I'm fairly sure that's not Olympic White.
[/quote]

It's Olympic White. 70s Fenders age to a creamy yellow over time.
It's the degradation of the poly coating that does it. The finish beneath will still be the original colour.
This is a 76P I had for 35 years:

You can see the original colour where the poly coating is worn away.

I really didn`t expect to see you`d still have this one Gareth, it`s a beaut.

For anyone looking at this, I bought it`s rosewood necked sister, and can state Gareth sells some darn fine basses!

She`s not going anywhere soon :)

The current one up for sale has got that aged yellowness that white Fenders get. I think it gives them bags of character. Luckily for all of the rest of you I have no money at present, or I`d be all over this one too.

That's very interesting. I stand corrected. It's a great looking bass right now - whatever it looked like in the past. I did think it was Vintage White - as that's what mine is. Here's a pic:

Virtually identical to that, except with Rosewood. I prefer the look of the maple mind.

I've never heard of 'Vintage White' being a colour?? Apart from people describing reissue colours as such?

Lovely looking bass Gareth, surprised it's still available, sign of the times i guess!

Exactly, its a reissue colour, not an 'original' fender colour that was of the period of this bass, or any preceeding basses or instruments.

I always assumed "Vintage White" is a Fender colour used on reissues to replicate aged Olympic White.

Lovely bass by the way. I've just bought a 70s P, otherwise I would have been very tempted at this price!

Yes it is - I think I'm agreeing with you!

Edit - its a cracking bass whatever you call the colour, and at a great price!
