bass shops in London

Hi,

I'll be in London for a few days and since there are not many bass oriented shops here in Slovenia I was hoping to visit some along the way. I am particularly interested in trying out Music man basses (bongo especially), Laklands, Yamahas etc..
Any suggestion on where the best shops for bass guitars in London are would be greately appreciated.

Thanks, Marko.

all the details are on their web site

Not much more to say than this. Good selection of basses and friendly, helpful staff.

It's the only place to go in London.

It is spelled 'Camden' BTW, not 'Camdan', just in case you are googling the name.

+1 for the Bass Gallery.

And here's a word of warning. You may have heard of Denmark Street in the centre of town. It's packed full of music shops and even has a specialist Bass retailer - the Bass Cellar.

So why is no-one recommending them?

The Denmark Sreet retailers have a reputation for being overpriced, rude, arrogant and generally really poor to deal with. In only one or two visits I've seen some of the worst treatment of customers there that I've seen in any retail environment.

Visit if you like but don't expect it to be a pleasant experience!

You can read this thread for some background!

Have fun when you get here,

Graham

Still amazed how they call that London. :) Don't think it's even within OysterCard zones haha.

It is, I once got a bus there drunk out of my mind, had no idea where I was. You should've seen the laugh the taxi driver had when I asked for Fulham!

And having recently been to the Bass Cellar, I doubt I'll be going back. It was necessary to buy the strings there and then, and I was there rather than in Camden, but the guy didn't listen to me at all and didn't seem to care too much once he knew he was guaranteed a sale. Not been to the Bass gallery but will definitely have to soon.

+ 1 for GuitarGuitar (London) Epsom - massive range of gear - certainly more basses than all of Denmark Street put together. It's 30mins by train from Waterloo and 5 mins walk from the train station - but sadly the London Underground tube don't run that far out to the sticks (of London.....).

Don't think it's even within the same Time Zone :)

Looks like a good shop though, will have to take a look sometime soon.

 • 2 weeks later...

Was visiting the kids last week in London and the eldest took me along Denmark St on Saturday pm. I was too scared to go into the shops given all the negative things said about some establishments...well actually, we were too busy to stop but they did not look bad from the outside!
Caught the Brand New Heavies at Ronnies too, Andrew Levy is still a cool bassist!
