phatkat Posted May 14, 2011 Share Posted May 14, 2011 I havent gigged in a while and my current band is just about up to speed, we should be gig ready in a couple of months... We'll be playing blues/rock covers in pubs and I need a new amp, I think a combo is the way to go. I'd like something compact and lightish with enough power to cover most gigs, it needs to be able to deal with my active stingray and passive jazz and be sub £1000... Help G... If you get one of their combos that should be enough on its own, but you also have the option to add an extension cabinet at a later time too. I have mine through an 8ohm 410, meaning i get about 300w and ive still never had to turn it past halfway. That's when competing with 2 heavy metal guitarists! xgsjx Posted May 14, 2011 Share Posted May 14, 2011 If you're going down the combo route, then I can recommend the Markbass CMD 102p as being light, loud & sounding way bigger than a 2x10 combo. I used it in a noisy originals rock band with 2 guitarists & a drummer who knew not what quiet meant & could easily be heard. You can always add another 2x10 if needed. If going for s/h, then you might be able to get the combo & cab for @ £1000-1100. I had a Trace Elliott 4x10 combo & it didn't have a 1/4 of the volume or sound quality that this puppy does. If you go down the separates route, go with either 1x15, 2x10 or 2x12 cabs. 2 of stacked vertically if needed. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Every time I go and see a band, and like the bass sound, invariably it is a Markbass combo. Having a Markbass 210 combo, and 210 extension cab - well that would be more than enough for most venues. As mentioned it has a great depth of sound which really make it sound bigger than your usual 2x10. Another one to consider is the Tecamp puma 2x10/2x12 if you can find one second hand. I recently shifted mine for financial reasons but if I could have it back I absoloutely would. Look in the For Sale section.[/quote] I'd agree with this... but if it MUST be a combo, the Markbass 102 is very good, IMO. Add a 1x15 underneath and you'll cover almost everything. chris_b Posted May 15, 2011 Share Posted May 15, 2011 In the first 2 pages of the FS section there are Markbass, TC, SWR, Trace, Schroeder, Ampeg and Ashdown cabs and amps which are within budget and would do really well in your situation.
