Ibanez Barrel Jack Socket Replacement

Hey guys,

Ive been trawling the net and im struggling to make sure of what i need to buy. I have a 2003 model Ibanez Soundgear 700 bass. Its not the same as the current model, its a four string with P/J pickups. The jack has become loose, no cable stays in for very long, and after reading a few things, this is a common problem with ibanez'. Now as far as i can tell, its a barrel jack socket, and its more of a pain to fix rather than just buy a replacement. I cant get any photos up but here are some measurents;

The length of the whole socket is 35mm. The diameter is 12mm on the inside, but the actual socket on the outside of the bass is about 20mm. I dont care about colour. Ive checked ebay and wdmusic and couldnt find anything that said it was specifically for this bass.

Any help would be appreciated, got a gig next weekend and dont want to resort to gaffa taping a lead to my bass

I found the model number of the part i need from ibanez's website. Just finding a vendor in the uk

yeah pretty much! are the sizes specific to models/makes or is it pretty much one size fits all??

Try Maplin they do Neutrik ones for about £2.

OK this is a Stereo one, but if it's a Passive Bass, it will still work.

Switchcraft ones are the muts nuts though the Neutrik should be good... just don't skimp and buy a cheapie!

If you have an active bass make sure you get a STEREO plug, *not* a mono one which is in the ebay link.

A stereo plug has 3 pins - for the mono jack, 2 of the pins are signal and ground. The 3rd pin on the stereo jack is used to turn the active electronics on and off! Look at the pin you've got - there should be three wires (or if there are more, at least there should be 3 points of connection on the jack).

A mono plug should be ok for passive basses but not for active ones, if you get a mono plug you will have to wire the electronics to be always on - which is obviously disastrous for battery life.

FWIW I got the stereo version of the switchcraft jack and it works just fine in my active Bass Collection.

Don't know if you have solved this or not, It does semm to be a common problem with Ibanez's. I had to replaced the input jack on My Ibanez 400, it has a barrel jack also. i got a Stereo jack from maplin for about 2.50 and it works brilliantly.

I have solved my problem. I found an ibanez discontinued parts dealer on ebay, hes kindly put some up for sale on ebay, im yet to order one yet though. i cant remember his username but if anybody wants it message me and ill let you know
