Oh......my :)

What have they done there? That lower horn just looks......wrong, kinda like a candle that's been left in sunshine and has all melted and 'flopped'

Hmmmm, there's a new name - the Ibanez 'Mr. Floppy'

I'm afraid I've never been an Ibby fan.......until now, when I took delivery (today) of a 30 year old Roadster.

Admittedly it has an Alembic preamp in it, but the build quality is astounding.
In 35 years of gigging, this is the most rock solid, comfortable, playable bass I've owned.
I've gone through Status, G&L, Fender, Warwicks mostly.....no boutique's, but UK, USA and German made basses, but this made me smile from the moment I played it without even plugging it in.

Huge bridge, brass nut, solid tuners, a great neck.

Are the modern ones as well made as the old Jap ones?

They're terrific basses. Was that from the kindly vmaxblues, by any chance? Congratulations if that's the case :)

Indeed it was. Great fella to deal with.

I used to look at these when I was in my late teens, but couldn't afford them, then they changed design and I went off Ibanez basses, but liked their guitars.

This one is fast, as buyer wants to know it..

Is there some sort of Ibanez serial register (the one like Warwick has on their website), where I can type my bass serial number, and get some more info about it - what year was it made, specs, and such?

any info highly appreciated

I picked up the Limited edition SR2010ASC and have to say I'm very happy with how comfy the body shape is. The SR series certainly got that right! Compared to other SR's as well the sound is far more rounded with leas metallic zing. The 'Ashula' preamp and 'Sonic Arch Pickups' seem to be a huge step forward in sound. I really hope they start to use this electronics package in future SR's... It would seem a waste for such a great sounding circuit to die with a limited run bass

I'm sorry that I just dropped you in that site without some info where to go and all. This site services all the whole Ibanez line and you've got to drill down to some of the places you need and can post in for the questions you have.

That IS the official Ibanez site however, and the mods there are all Ibanez personnel and they answer all questions about anything Ibanez.

Scroll down to Ibanez Basses>> SR (or SOUNDGEAR) Series and click on that link and roll around in that site for a while - it's very enlightening.

Here's the link to the SR area::: http://forum.ibanez.com/Default.aspx?g=topics&f=13

This link ( http://forum.ibanez.com/Default.aspx?g=im_email&u=83263 ) is to Brian who is a biggie at Ibanez and he can answer a lot of questions for you about identification of your instrument. Beware that he may request that you eventually perform your inquiry in the general forum for other people to see the Q&A there for their own edification too.

Today I noticed the SRT series basses - wow. I've always been put off the SR because of the pickups, but the SRT looks to have everything I like in a bass! Neck through, curved back, EMG 40DC pickups, ovankol and bubinga in a natural finish... Ding dong! I've got serious GAS.

That's exactly what I'm hoping for too. Those new pickups sound fab on the clips and don't seem to have that horrible Ibanez zing. I'm sure if they install those in the SRs and rethink the dated logo (which makes all the basses look the same) they'll convince more people.

+1

I've just bought an SR600 and am loving it, but I have to admit I'm missing the better sustain (and looks) I've been used to from the thru-neck bass I've played for the past 25+ years. :)

There doesn't seem to be much of a UK presence for the SRT basses yet, but even a major obstacle like this is doing nothing to reduce my GAS. :)
I don't think I could pull the trigger without hearing one - SRs seem to have quite a unique tone and I'm not sure I like it. I wonder how much of that is down to the body shape or if its the electronics.
It surely must be due to the electronics...?
