Whilst i can't decide how i feel about the relic thing rather than it actually just being old i think i'm leaning toward liking it! (especially when taking into account the price)! I'm thinkng of ordering one of the 63 style basses with a lake Placid Blue finish and a light/medium relic as this is the fender that i one day desire! Has anyone got one of his basses or played one? I've played on of his J basses and loved it more than a 76 Fender J I tried next to it.... Let me know! Jigster Posted September 9, 2010 Share Posted September 9, 2010 yeah well just to add to your knowledge of the J - I have a Nash jazz and am blown away by the build quality - it's hard to find any faults on it - okay it's a jazz not a P but the projection of the sound is amazing as is the sustain, and I've no reason to doubt that a P neck will feel just as solid and perfectly set up as the Jazz one does the relic thing is pretty well handled I reckon - not sure what the sell on price of these will be tho as they're quite top end from new, altho hoping GAS doesn't take me down any avenues where the Nash gets sold anyway. Very good quality basses, sound fabulous, extremely well put together and the relic'ing is quite authentic looking. My only gripe is they don't try hard enough with the fingerboard - white plastic dot markers (clay would have been better or at least creamy 'aged' looking plastic) and the rosewood could have been darker. Great basses though and there's an increasing number of well known users (eg Guy Pratt, Rob Trujillo [Metallica]) Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

As a fan of the vintage, slim Jazz neck, I thought the chunkier C-shape might bother me but I dropped my string gauge from .040-.100 to .40-.095 on the Nash and it's fine. Agree, Clarky, about the dots: they shoulda been clay and there's no real reason why they shouldn't have been. Then again, the JB63 is not a strict copy of a Jazz from that year. Stacker Posted September 10, 2010 Share Posted September 10, 2010 Clarky had left a set of TIs on when i got her (can't mind the gauge) but I didn't have to tweak the neck. What did happen is that I began to get a bit of choking on the A&D up around 15th fret area and had to put a very thin shim under the neck.
