1.
I remember trying to be a smart arse in music theory classes trying to correct the tutors analysis of Bach chorales.. I must have been such an annoying student!
I wasn't trying to be a smart arse........I was a smart arse!
2. Jumping the gun a bit here but i'm getting a new bridge for this. it has more holes for screws for mounting it to the body. Will i have to fill the old holes in the body then put it in the same place or place it a few mm's behind? What's the best stuff to fill the holes?
3. He was alright old claude but i much prefered my mate Igor. Nearly everything i wrote at uni was about him. It was so aggresive and i loved how he'd write things in two keys at he same time to create a superkey.
4. I used to be well into all this. I did Contemporary Classical (for want of a better word) as part of my degree. I'll always remember Debussy cos whilst our lecturer was explaining a certain passage in 'The girl with The flaxen hair' and a certain magical chord, a friend and i was discussing it too. She stopped the class and said " Mr Walker would you like to share you conversation with the rest of the class" So i said ok and explained how she was wrong about what a certain chord was and it's functionality. I forget what the chord was now but it was essentially stacked in fourths or something with a 7th at the bottom. My friend and i came from a jazz(ish) background a were complete theory nerds so had a better grasp of large chords, scales modes etc. To say she wasn't impressed is putting it lightly. She never asked me anything again.
5. This is no help but i find the floating thumb more natural than resting on a pick up. Maybe cos i started off playing with a pick.
6. But seriously I'd say supporting Tim Booth and The Music about ten yrs ago. Recently doing this tour and retaining my place for the upcoming tours, especially as i feel i didn't play that great due to not playing for months before due to hand dermatitis, which has recently turned into full blown eczema, so i'm now fighting that. 7. As i said in another thread i once managed nine w***s whilst watchin Basic Instinct when i was 14.
8. Thanks for all the advice so far by the way!
9. Well i've already a sander on order cos i need one anyway. If i have no joy, i get paid on Thursday, there are a few heat guns on amazon at a reduced price so i'll order one then.
10. Nitro mors has had no effect, so its Poly. Time to get a sander. Ordering a B&D mouse, Detail hand sander.
11. What i love is how he says he hate people who say i like rocky/ funk y etc. then at the end lists his likes. Class!
12. Def. I love Duff! G'n'R was the first band i was ever massively into when i was a kid. the following is the reason why i started playing bass. http://youtu.be/6IamlIGPNCU That riff and sound just blew me away. Still love it. Menacing as f***!
13.
Yes. I tend to use a stranded cable rather than a single core, as the stranded cables are more flexible. Other than that it doesn't matter too much.
nice one!
14.
Yes, disappointing isn't it when you're expecting a nice piece of alder, or swamp ash and you get this lump of ply. But hey, what do you expect for £23? But you knew this. 1)The foam is there to give springiness to the pups, so the screws push against the foam and you have the pups stable at a given height. If your foam looks knacked you can replace this with a strip cut from an old foam mouse mat. 2) No, you won't get wires with the pots. You MIGHT get a capacitor with them. I did when I bought Fender pots, but normally the pot itself is what you get. I normally replace the wires. You can buy a meter or 2 from Maplin. For the jack, I was advised to get a stereo one. You don't need the middle terminal, but it gives better stability, so I was told.
Sound, i will be buying Fender pots. What about the wire that goes thru the body to the bridge, can that be the same type as what you wire up the pots with?
15. Ok, just started taking it to bits. Looks like it's made of plywood. I have a couple of questions. ( Bear in mind this is the first time i've took a guitar to pieces, these will seem like stupid questions) 1) When i took the pick ups out there was foam pads under the pick ups. Will i have to keep these for the new pick ups to sit on? 2) I intend to buy new vol and tone pots and jack socket. Should i keep the wires from my old ones or will they come with some? I've just looked again, I just buy new wire don't I. It's all the same. However, do you need a differnt type of wire to go between pots and bridge?
16. To up the Rock n Roll level do loads of cocaine. It might even make your back feel better...well for twenty minutes. Then comes the anxiety!
17.
I'm think you just don't understand what's being said bro. It's okay though.
I'm not your bro, guy!
18.
I think the question is further from learning to read a book and closer in spirit to storytellers learning stories or poems in oral traditions like the Norse sagas or Grek myths. It's a question of internalising the narrative well enough to be able to perform it to others, perhaps adding your own interpretations and changing it along the way. 'How do you learn to read a book' would better equate to learning to read music notation of some kind. Get good enough at it (if the words/notation are capable of describing the piece accurately) and you barely have to be familiar with the original before you can translate it from the written to the aural form.
That's just what he's like! He was criticising someone else's question the other week!
19. Just play through it two or three times.
20. Cheers, I've paid for the nitromors now, so being a yorkshireman I'll have to try it or it's a waste of money. But if it don't work I'll give it a go!
21. I have no idea what the finish is i.e nitro or poly but i have some nitro mors on order
22. Hi, I bought the following bass of ebay for £23. It's an Infinity 5 String. Basically I'm gonna rip everything out of it. Strip the finish, refinish. Buy new pickups, pots bridge and probably tuners. I've never done anything like this before and I'm probably no good at it. I've read loads of threads on here and read things on the internet. Just gonna bash ahead. I'll put it all up on here stage by stage. Please feel free to help and advise! Here's some pics of it in current state. The volume pots aren't attached to the body inside. Cheers.
