2.
What evidence do you have that vicars don't believe in God?
If a Vicar is preaching every Sunday and does not have a belief then he/she is a complete hypocrite.
  3.
You think its unfair that people who do not believe in a god, when presented with ABSOLUTELY NO EVIDENCE of the existence of god, conclude that there probably isn't a god??? Yeah, well unfair. Any sane person approaching with a totally neutral view on god's existence, after examinning the evidence, would come back and say that its highly unlikely that he/it exists. God strike me down if this isn't true.* There's certainly not enough evidence to waste a sunday morning over when you could be pulling yourself off over Hollyoaks. *I'm still waiting, you beardy f***er!
+1. I find it hard to get along with people who although being extremely smart are delluded with such silly false promises, but then again the same can be said for Religious people looking down at people who have no belief and wish to lead an "Empty" existence, but the truth as is as soon as you can accept that there is no glorified shag pad after you die you learn to appreciate life mroe than any Chrisitian who kind of live a lazy lifestyle with the mindset that with a little prayer here and there that they will be in line to comb God's beard.
  4.
If I follow your train of thought correctly, agsnosticism is not only the scientific position (= I don't know), it is also the only logical position, given that you can neither prove nor disprove the existence of god. Right? Having said that, I think you will find that most atheists would have no problem accepting that there is a god if there was a viable reason for doing so. They would probably still have an issue with most religions, but that's another matter.
Agnostics basically sit on the fence, they'd like to think there is something/someone behind all of this but they also think that maybe everything came about differently as opposed the great unquestionable one clicking his/hers/its fingers and voila. As an Atheist I can happily say if God could ever be proven solidly I would hold my hands up and accept it, simple. If an Atheist is a Fundamentalist as well and is proven wrong then that person would have a lot more trouble accepting it, and unfortunatley most Christians are unknowingly Fundamentalists, they know its true and theres no question, any form of questioning against that is seen as heresy, this espeically applies for Evangelicals and pretty much the South of America.
  5. If Satan played bass:
  6. 1. Dwayne Wright 2. Andrew Gouche 3. Maurice Fitzgerald
  7.
Nice to see he's using another instrument, hopefully he sounds better with a Rick compared to that 5 string he's got, which sounds dire whenever I hear it.
I don't know about that, it is a Rick after all.
  8. Hmm a possible tribute to Cliff maybe?? Ohh and it's Trujillo.
  9.
well yep but not too much fizzle as the strings are a year or so old!
So all in all, she sounds pretty nifty .
  10.
Well as always its very subjective, but what they do do is make the bass a tad more "urgent" if you know what I mean, the tones are the same and a tad more gritty, but they have that active spark, but not overly, so shes still lazy if you know what I mean, but well you know! Subjective as I say.
Hmmm so really she has some Hi-Fi sizzle to her but still has the passive jazziness shining through?
  11. Don't the EMG's take away some of that essential classic jazz tone Andy?
  12.
....and it has a beautiful story to go with it!
Cetera I bet with all your Spectors you probally have a whole trilogy worth of stories to tell...
  13. I've just had a little tweak on the action and now she plays just as good as my MTD's, but Cetera one question, I know the bottom knob is treble and the far left knob is the pan control but are the last 2 individual volume controls?

Just solo the neck pick up and voila!

  16. A little back story, Basically this was my first real high end bass which I gor for Christmas 2 years ago, I had it for a short while and at that time I was struggling to get the ever elusive Jaco tone and so I eventually traded it for a Deluxe Jazz. And really it's the only bass that i've regretted not getting to know better and stumbling across some old photos of the bass just reminded me of it and really had been nagging me for over a year, I still was in contact with the owner so I knew where it was so it never really got too far from me. So about a few weeks ago I sent him a friendly message just wondering if he was planning on selling it anytime soon and for how much, well luckily he was looking to sell and I made an offer which he jumped at. He got it set up by a tech who is very informed about Spectors, just before shipping it to me. And here it is: When I had it first it had the infamous black knobs and I had grown accustomed to them, I'm not a great fan of gold hardware so I quickly swapped them over to the originals: It's strange, although the previous owner has had it logner than me, it still feels exactly the same as it did when I had it first, the colour still demands attention and is so nice to look at, the semi-minor ding I added to the neck holds sentimental value. But the main difference now is that I have a much superior amp to what I had at the time so for the first time I've managed to hear it's full potential and it compliments the tone of my MTD's perfectly. Just needs some new strings before I'm fully happy though . Josh.
  17.
i know it is your opinion and not fact, I understand that but since when were opinions sacred and not to be questioned?
Thats one of the privileges of being Religious. You can criticise a chef/artisit/musician/author/TBBC/scientist without a second thought, and by the way, all of those people are very much alive, so they can actually take that critiscm to heart, whereas you dare question something which has no physical means of feeling or communicating or really any sense of existence at all. You dare question because alot of the time the only answer that will be thrown your way is "The Bible is proof enough of God, it was written by him through his hand picked disciples..." etc... An appearance on Jeremy Kyle would suffice as solid proof if he/she/it exists.
  18.
But isn't it because that's the sort of music that makes up 99% of the top 40 singles? - dull & predictable. It's only that to the more esoteric ear - it's what a lot of young people like. If you play more esoteric music it makes it a less cultural form of worship/praise.
It is indeed, and now and again something does come along. I've got a profoundly Christian younger sister and she constantly has Christian Rock on and occasionally she puts something good on in between, but what it seems to me is that these bands model themselves on bands which the kids love (The Used a re a perfect example) and really turn it on it's head, it's not about the music anymore it's all about the message.
  19.
I disagree. I don't believe they'd behave in that way to just any good music ? Only music which reinforces or that's associated with their beliefs ...imho
A majority of Christian Rock music is dull and predictable, it just serves as a basis to preach in a more accessible form to younger people. It's sugar coated chorus friendly to bring the masses in.
  20.
Josh, I'm happy to take it to PMs Re: Andrew Gouche, as I'm primarily a gospel bassist (at least that's been 80-90% of my gigs for the last 5 years or so) I was surprised to have only heard of him in 2008. Does anyone who's more up on his work know if he's just come to more prominence of late, or has he been around for a while? He has a decent tone, a little heavy on the more percussive style of playing to my ears, but it is mighty tasteful and tuneful nonetheless.
Gouche was one of the first "Real" Gospel bassists along with Joel Smith (Another great player if you can find more vids than the few on Youtube) to bring proper bass into live and recorded gospel music. I think Joel brought in the whole tuning half a step down business, Gouche openly admits himself in one of those clinic videos that he went half a step lower than Joel just because he could and is what he has gotten use to over the years and is what has given him such a prominent tone on any/every recording he has done. To us he is relatively new, but he has been recording with many gospel artist's, Ministers and other MD's since the early/mid 80's and has gained a reputation for being one of the most solid and creative bassists to ever play on the gospel scene, even with all the new gospel bassists appearing left right and centre Gouche still sounds fresh. The only stuff I've managed to find besides his gospel stuff (And even finding that is a pain in the ass) is when he recorded quite a few tracks for the Unwrapped cd's from HBR, and there damn hard to come by as well, but they're basically re-recordings of modern hip-hop songs, and man they are lush. Have a looksie and a listen: How Hip-Hop should be. Listen to Rappers Delight. More. He is bringing out his first solo CD soon though. In regards to his tone, MTD Basses are a huge part of it, and ampwise he uses Epifani and SWR. Thats the best I can give with all the stuff I've read and heard and looked up.
  21.
You often see Andrew Gouche's name mentioned in terms of gospel bass... he's supposed to be fairly hot. Are there any of his youtubisms we can check out? (can't get to it to search at the moment, works PC won't let me get to youtube)
Andrew Gouche is one my main influences of the last so many months, he's currently Chaka Khans MD and really does spice up the songs live, he's busy but so tasteful. Well here's one better than most of the Youtube offerings, finding stuff for lesser known Gospel bassists is a bitch. Clinic. And some selected youtube action: And some live Chaka (With Prince and Stevie Wonder)action: Chaka Icon. Try looking for some Maurice Fitzgerald as well.
  22.
If these things were true, that there is a creator God, and the associated trinity, would it still be ludicrous? Would it still be delusional to do the things that Josh listed as delusional if this were true? Mark
If they were true they would be justified, and then there would be no question. Simple.
  23.
Here we go another thread side tracked on to religious beliefs, now watch it turn nasty.
Hence the suggestion to take it to PM's man .
  24.
Josh, let me see if I understand you correctly. All the things you've described (which I think have been at least mildly misrepresented in your post, but lets leave that as it's peripheral) appear ludicrous to you. You see it as an unfounded delusion that these people are indulging in the belief of a creator God, singing praises to Jesus and the Holy Spirit, because you do not believe that any of these things are true. Is this the case? Or is there something else that I am missing? I just wish to respond accurately. Mark
I see it as a delusion purely because there is such a lack of evidence to prove any of what they are singing/praying/dancing for is real, simple logic dictates that if you are to believe in something as diverse as Religion or Astronomy then there has to be solid evidence that proves that the subject is certified as beliveable. And for the latter the amount of solid provene vidence is staggering and still coming in, whereas with Religion, the best your going to get is an answer when you pass away. If you wish to take it to PM's Mark so the thread can carry on then please do .
  25.
Josh, what do you define as delusional? Earbrass, why should kids say no? I ask these things in the hope of reasoned discussion. Mark
I define the sheer act of spending 3+ hours every sunday morning singing tacky hyms in hope of being promised a place in Heaven as delusional, the same goes for having glorified fairy tales preached at you from a book in which almost every gospel contradicts the other, both to scare and enlighten you. I also find it highly delusional to claim that being "Gifted" at any given instrument is all because God bistowed it upon that person, it is purely ludicrous, that some omnipotent being whos existence has never ever been proven by solid evidence other than thousand year old scriptures which for one were written by people with religious agendas and have subsequently been twisted and turned over as many years to suit their own means. To believe in something as far fetched as a Creator who has enough time to give one little tiny human the ability to play an instrument , whilst balancing between his hectic schedule of: Answering prayers, performing miracles around the earth, controlling the winds and all of the planets rotation, dishing out his wrath, governing the nature of the whole Universe etc.... I define Religion as Delusional. If you wish to go further Mark please do say so.
