  1. There are many better models out there than ones from Fender and Gibson, but we are creatures of habit and marketing. I believe most of it is down our Six String playing friends, they very rarely stray away from what's available in a local shop meaning anything else isn't "cool"

Yamaha, Sandberg and PRS have refined their own designs and are probably technically better than a Fender or Gibson, but since they only get a fraction of market share they aren't going to get in as many hands to understand the differences.

    Sandberg 48 owners!

How do they compare to Gibson/Epiphone T-birds in terms of ergonomics?

Are they equally massive, heavy and neck divey?

Ive only tried one briefly in a shop and it was pretty well balanced. But I think as with all Sandberg basses, they take existing designs and just refine them to make them better* and more playable.

*A bit subjective and does not result in them being more popular.

  3. Doesn't the SR300E have the powerspan pickups which are a bit different to the Bart styles found in the majority of the SR range?

I tried an SR305E in a shop and very much liked the powerspan pickups, but haven't owned one long term.

Embarrassingly, as I have some Shell Pink paint left over I've bought a Telecaster to convert to bass and slop said pink paint over.

I don't have enough time for all these jobs, I DO NOT have enough time for all... Ooh look, another project bass! 🙄😁

Can confirm shell pink short scales are a fun project 😁1066216020_PXL_20200806_163729295.PORTRAIT-01.COVER2-01.thumb.jpeg.1444fd9f0e10f1508c1eb824cb6a60c3.jpeg

    Well…unexpectedly…this comes home tomorrow.

Left me about 2 years ago.

Always wanted to try one of these as a former Sheehan Fan Boi. The attitude beck is too thick for me and I do like the BB style...maybe one day.

  6. I always thought at one point I would have a Status, and go through the whole process and it would be mine.

Used to have a PC wallpaper covered on different Statii, with all the LEDs and cool finishes and I am a wee bit sad that I'll never get that chance to do that. In its current format anyway.

Also, the 2nd hand value of these will rocket once we know what the future holds for Status production.

  7. Yamaha TRB or TRBX could be a good shout for bang for buck in this price range.

Not 100% sure about the M series but I think the difference between the ranges is the fit and finish and the preamp remains consistent throughout the range. So M7 will have a "premium" finish and hardware Vs midrange M5

Imagine patiently awaiting a seemingly problem free replacement, only to find that you preferred the original, just for how it felt in your hands.

If I had your skills, I would do the work myself, accept a nice little discount from the shop and get on with playing the bass. Assuming that I was really enjoying the feel of it, that is.

This is something worth considering. It is very odd from a Yamaha QC point of view that there is an issue (considering this thread is basically 340 pages of saying how good they are!) But not all basses are created equal.

Wait to see what the discount is and okay the bass a bit and see if works for you. Realistically by the time you return the bass it's going to be basically the end of the month then it's only another 4 weeks to wait. Quite lucky to have Merchant City Music as one of my local shops and they always seem really good guys.
