1.
My shock and dismay at the op cannot be expressed in words. I'm just going to leave this here
This is a bit more like it, a bit more like classic Primus. However, the whole silly storytelling aspect of it is very tired.
2. Speaking of Conklin, I've not heard from Bill Dickens in ages. Loks like he's been playing bass for Stevie Wonder, using his white Conklin 7 string!
3. They do look hideous. Even theSpider model looks awful, all those graceful touches that the Alembic had stripped away and replaced with that tacky looking red colour scheme. No doubt Entwistle fans who can't afford an Alembic will go nuts, but I doubt they'll be all that cheap.
4. He's going for a power lunch.
5.
If I said "a Kubicki is a POS and I would never want to be seen dead with one" would you not be a little bit offended?
Well, no, I wouldn't. Because it's a case of different vinegar strokes for different folks. I kind of like the fact that Kubicki bass have a 'niche' appeal, although that fact is far behind the fact that they sound excellent, play brilliantly and look awesome. If everyone liked Kubicki basses and wanted to own one I'd have more trouble getting hold of them! My opinions are my opinions, robust they may be. But they're my opinions, and I respect everyone's right to have one even if I don't agree with it.
6. Well, I used to like Primus but that was years ago. I'm waiting to see Les make some music that doesn't just appeal to his fanboys, because the "wacky for the sake of wacky" thing he's been doing for years now is really lame and contrived.
7. I'd like to see somene try and copy the Conklin double neck! I suspect Bill Conklin used a winch when he was building that!
8. It appears to have a Kahler tremolo or something of that nature on it.
9.
Can't say I agree with you, but that's a long way to go to make a fairly inane point!
Why not be verbose when such wordiness is only a few keystrokes away! Or to put a more Northern spin on things, you could say John has had his pants pulled down by this whole affair!
10. http://blogs.sfweekly.com/shookdown/2011/0...laypools_co.php Essentially it's this ugly POS: Apparently this is Les' new bass and it will be offered as a production model (although I'm not sure by who). I have to say, the wood working looks even worse than on a Carl Thompson! And those basses have had some shoddy fit and finish jobs, from some accounts. However, upon seeing the pictures and seeing Les dressed up in his weird outfits, I was more struck by the fact that he has apparently become a pardoy of himself and is now like a bass hermit, pedalling the same tired crap and failing to do anything inventive in over a decade. He's a relic of the 90's, how strange that he doesn't just retire!
11. It just looks so...cheap.
12. Glad to hear someone is burning all that crap up Tino!
13. This is one of the nicest Wal basses to have surfaced on the boards in some time as well!
14.
As for John looking like a "mug", I really don't see it myself. He has no control over this situation and has come off looking pretty reasonable.
Mark, such a situation would be enough to make a mug of anyone, but especially so in the case when something extremely expensive which you own and initially thought was unique turns out to have an extremely convincing copy made of it. Someone has went to great effort here and has left John looking like a mug. It's definitely a proper mugging off, and would make a mug of the best men. Especially when it's out of your hands; as we see the bass has been sold and may never resurface!
15. And therein lies the danger John. Like you, I would take one look at that "fake" and think it was a real Ritter, and a particularly nice one at that, with none of the over the top excess that spoils some of Ritter's other instruments. I can see why someone would be taken in by it. Hopefully Jens will chime in soon and clarify whether or not he did indeed make the bass.
16. I bet Rickenbacker are spinning in the grave over these high quality copies!
17. I'm looking forward to it! I was just saying in another thread how good the LX Series basses are.
18. Bloody good deal for a great cab!
19. Yes, those trousers are the most remarkable thing about the video, she looks ridiculous!
20. You just couldn't try and cover Shawn Lane's "Not Again" and just make up a bassline as you went along. That bassline is just perfection coming from a Modulus Quantum (I am of course referring to the 'Powers of Ten, Live!' album).
21. Location? Pictures of the bass?
22. Listening to "Just outside of Normal" by Stuart Hamm is bringing back my Urge gas (even though it was recorded with his new Washburn signature). Must resist...need to buy new car on friday....!
23. Yeah, having had a chance to play a Bongo since then, they really do knock the traditonal Musicman basses into a cocked hat because they can do all that and more! And as I've said before, if you're looking to get a Wal sound on a tight budget then they do a passable impression.
24. Those LX basses were always overlooked. Pretty reasonable used prices (or at least they were a couple of years ago) and all the quality you'd expect from Warwick, especially before they started cheapening things with Ash Covettes and $$'s.
25. At that price range I'd probably lean towards a used Squier VMJ.
