1. I played a lost prophets shinobi dragon something at the Shed as the first song because it was in drop D. I was 15 i think and i had learnt the song in my bass lesson 2 hours previously and as you could imagine it went very tits up and my poor p bass fell straight off the strap i had borrowed as i had forgotton mine. And we played infront of 2 bands and someones mum cool eh?
2. Pause the vid at 26 seconds and it looks very similar to this: http://media.photobucket.com/image/guy%20p...ck/IMG_8937.jpg and i have had my eyes tested this year and their perfectly OK
3.
Doesn't look much like him to me.
Comparing that to one of the photos on google images im pretty sure that is him
4.
I have two sets of drum mics, 4 nice vocal condensors, plenty of dynamics for the cabs, cables, pre-amps, and I can record up to 24 channels into Cubase at a time - all for under £1k.
Just to have 4 vocal condensors for under 1k is pretty good going, my hats off to you sir
5. Iv just looked through the whole 16 pages and i love the fact that so many of you were like me and whinged about EMA for the 2 years i was at school. But how many of you are in the new and much worse situation where people at uni get £2900 grant based on their parents income for the same reason. I of course didnt get it and for that reason couldnt afford the rent while everyone who did have it funily enough bought lovely new equipment. Having said all this im a spoilt brat and although i work, my dad gave me £200 so i could get my latest addition, my Warwick thumb fretless NT5.
6.
We're all wrong. You need a Peavey, as this guy will now demonstrate: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LSeLqqGHRgA
that is some very very depressing funk, i woudnt play that at a funeral
7.
You can only play funk on one of these. On any other bass it just doesn't work, I've tried.
Wheres all the pickups gone
8.
A '62 Sunburst Precision, strung with flats, and a ludicrously high action. End of discussion. A
I agree for soul and modern pop funk (will young, VV Brown). Especially when played near the neck but then iv never gone towards the bridge on my p bass becuase the tensions too much. Again i think it completely depends on the sub catagory. A Jazz Bass can do anything though. The best thing to do is to try many many many basses and buy one on feel and build quality. Sound can be changed by technique (right and left hand) and pickups/ pre amps.
9. What kind of funk? Soul, disco, jazz? For Chili's, Michael Jackson, Chic, Sister Sledge, KC & sunshine band, and jamiroquai you cant go wrong with a Musicman stingray or a 70's reissue jazz bass. Ampwise, anything except Ashdown in my opinion. I use Hartke because they suit the 70's funk vibe best for me. Mark bass are awsome too though
10. If your doing your whole band be prepared to spend a lot on mic's and proofing for the drums alone. And don't forget you dont have to buy the big brands for everything. M audio have made some great recording hardware recently.
11.
If the bridge pickup is in line with the tone control it's 70's spacing. The picture of the 70's Squier shows the pickup in a 60's configuration but that doesn't mean much because the picture on the Fender website shows the Fender Geddy Lee bass with a 60's position as well but if you check out an actual Geddy Lee you'll notice it's futher back towards the bridge (plenty of pictures of actual Geddys in the for sale section).
Your 100% correct. Il just have to wait until its in the shops.
12. that jazz bass looks amazing! But does it have the 70's bridge pickup spacing? I cant tell from the picture wen i compared it to the 60's Classic Vibe.
13.
i agree with this totally Pete..nothing worse than funk too fast!! that and a bassist with a Burberry cap on..
when you say too fast, i think for funk & soul most tower of power is pretty fast but IMO it grooves and sounds amazing
14. price is amazing considering that absolutemusic have the same thing, used as well, for £2200

17. When i looked at fretless basses recently i found that the ones with an ebony fingerboard were far superiour than those with maple or ebonal necks. The ebonal neck on the squier i thought was particually naff sounding. I would assume your budget isnt quite enough but the Warwick fretlesses are amazing if you saved up.

19. When can i buy one? Iv got around £300 because thats how much i suspect they will be but the shipping date on thomann keeps being pushed back and there arnt any UK sites with them on. Does anyone know anything?
20. Thats very strange, i played the same model at PMT Birmingham and it was by a long shot the best jazz bass i have ever played. When a crap and heavey 76 jazz costs £1700 and an origional pre cbs jazz bass costs £5k+, i thought the custom shop was amazing value and the one i played was exceptionaly well made. Just makes you realise you always need to try it before you buy, because no two basses will be the same
21. Fender Custom shop manufacture a classic 5 string jazz bass but their over £1500 so i don't know what he hopes to achieve by 99p ...... Personaly i think it looks a heap of junk
22.
Dr Stringfellow Lem-oil on the rosewood fretboard of my Spector (apparently Lem-oil should only be used on rosewood).
woops cheers guys iv been using that for about a year on my stingray is gun oil the best thing for a maple neck?
23. Gibson guitar polish for the finished bodies, beeswax for the warwick body and lemon oil for the maple necks
24. no thank god, playing bass is one of the times i can get away from my girlfreind which means lots of practice
