1. 6ths n 7ths all the way for that one. Its often nice to go alternate the 6th, 7th and 5th.... typical guitar thing in blues
2. A design REDDI. All valve and very highly rated
3.
Does this mean LHs are the bargain of the century? Or do they only sound like that when Nate plays through 'em?
They are the bargains on the century! Because their chinese made im guessing. But yh awsum amps i just wish they did a 250 watt one because 500 is melting me room when i practice.
Although last night he was using a Bossa and not an Aleva Coppola, which he seems to do quite alot.
yhp its the bossa, havnt seen the alleva in ages which is a shame because its gorgeous! Dont know what the fretless he has was though :S
4. Its interesting to read everyones opinions as always. So heres mine... 1) I saw stevie wonder on saturday and the sound was amazing compared to what was shown at glastonbury on sunday. And im positive that it sounded crap just because of bbc's coverage, you dont get half the frequencies and clarity as you do in person. The difference is amazing and you would think in a modern day bbc would do better. 2) Swapping basses for different songs. Why? you get basses with a million knobs these days and its pretty much so you dont need to swap. For rock songs its all the same anyway, fender jazz, p bass or stingray style thing and its perfect. I did a few sets last week and just used my stingray the whole way through just giving it slight adjustment when needed. And isnt Muse mostly fuzz based anyway? a nice passive bass and your sorted! Just showboating his money me thinks (N)
5. it was definately a tv thing. I saw it at hyde park, exact same set. Bass cut through like a dream and everything was perfect!
6. just seen stevie wonder and jamiroquai and paul turners new alleva copollo was excellent and he didnt even touch the 66 jazz bass he had out but his technique for me was no match for the amount of groove that came out of nate watts. True hes been playing the same thing for 40 years but there were so many great licks i wish to steal! So basically i have a bass crush on nate watts and just wanted to share it with you all. I hope plenty of BCers went to the gig
7. i straight away thought of my warwick. Then i realised if its an island so small there is little life there, then the warwick might sink the island!!!!!
8. i played a 67 p bass at wunjo's but it went pretty fast. This bass was so good i hope they made many of them.... Or they put all their efforts into makin a small number sound and feel the best they could, consistently. I would be happy with either of them being true.
9. cheers guys its great to have that all cleared up as i wasnt totally sure, hope im not the only person (yn) thanks again, ollie
10. Does anyone know the laws on being a self employed freelance player? Do you have to set yourself up as a business and register all incomes and out goings with some tax people? Or is it as simple as you can do a session or gig and pick up the cheque and keep it to yourself? Any help on clearing this up for me would be much welcomed, ollie
11. i dont know if anyones mentioned this already do im sorry if they have but i think it really depends on the bass....... For me; 5 string-maple, musicman stingray- maple, fender jazz and p basses - rosewood .... Dont know why but thats just the way it has to be
12. By the sounds of it Orchestra and big bands are the way forward to complete you as a musician but in particular sight reading. If you look at most of the great players they have all been involved in these in some way or form. Hopefully next year i will have the confidence to give NYJO a bash
13. i think custom shop should be in there. Brazilian rosewood fretboard, dokata red, best jazz i ever played and for a '63 replica, cheeper than the real thing. Otherwise 75 reissue gets my vote
14. Bad points- It doesnt seem to be like many 70's jazzes iv played on. Its light and has a chunky neck and not silly low action. Its not much of a replica IMO Good points- I prefer this one for the reasons in the bad points! its a fantastic bass and the one in stock at andertons is a great example. Tone and style is also top notch
15. just to add, if you were going to change the pickups i would deifinately buy the squier CV p bass. Better to play and the build qualities excellent. Then put Lady Fralin pickups on. Their so so so underated!
16. 50's p basses have the thickest necks i can think of, and i cant play them very easily with my small girl like hands. Not a bad bass but the pickups are naff. Also action is very high on all the ones iv played, including roadworn. But they replicate the origionals nicely
17. Hi, iv recently bought a Warwick fretless NT bass and theres loads of buzz. Iv tried raising the action which helped a bit but didnt cure it. Will i need to adjust the nut and action? or is it something to do with it being fretless? cheers
18. f bass: played on paul turners when it was at the gallery..... just wow! the tones, woods, feel and asthetics all fantastic! i really want one of the bn5 models. Dream bass for me no higher praise than tht!
19. oliviasvintageguitars.com My favourite, just know it so i can dream of one day having such basses
20. hi do you know how much these roughly retail for? I have a Fender American Deluxe Jazz bass V in a stunning transparent red that i want to trade for a warwick 5 string fretless. But i think there might be too much difference in the prices for me to make up
