  1. I changed the standard US pickups in my P bass to Lindy Fralins and it significantly improved the sound. Once you make the change you think why didn’t I do it sooner!
  2. What I see in this thread 😂
  3. Nice, there are lots of stingray 5s about so even if you decide the status isn’t right in the long term, you’ll have no problem finding a stingray. Hadn’t heard of Human Base before, not something I’d buy blind.
  4. Ah I forgot about this, I bought two guitar TAB books off here last month. Do they count as gear?
  5. Due to their mass 5 strings become a lot more about user preference compared to 4 strings. There are so many variations that impact the B string; Scale length, string spacing, neck depth, body size, string trees, neck through vs bolt on, angled headstock and the list goes on. I think you’re wise to start off cheaper and work out what you do and don’t like about it to better educate your choices in the future. I had 4 5 strings before going back to basics on a 4, and luckily the Sire V5 ticks a lot of boxes before I can afford a KS.
  6. I don’t regularly check on either but they’re worth a browse at least. I wouldn’t buy vintage at auction. I don’t want to spend thousands and run the risk of buying a fake or something that isn’t quite what it says it is.
  7. For vintage guitars ATB, No Tom, vintage and rare in Bristol, New Kings Road vintage and rare, classic and cool guitars, Charlie Chandler posts stuff on FB. For odds and sods I know of We Buy Any Guitar in Ashton under Lyne, guitar village in Surrey, promenade music in Morcombe. Guitar Guitar have shops dotted around too.
  8. What sort of guitars are you looking to browse? There’s loads in the UK that are smaller than those you’ve mentioned but specialise in specific areas.
  9. Was the Vigier modded to be invisible?
  10. No, but looks legit. Not many P basses had blocks and binding. When did they transition to truss rod access at the headstock end?
  11. Try calling some of the shops in Denmark street to see if they would buy them from you. Wunjo would be a good starter. You would get less money than selling privately but at least it would be guaranteed.
  12. Yep, can see the strap lock from a mile away 😜
  13. When I joined basschat (probably was 15 years ago) I was initially attracted to the bargains that could be had in the classifieds. But I quickly realised that it was because the BC community were passing bargains on to others by selling on for what they paid. I didn’t see much obvious flipping for profit but once I saw it on a sale of mine I lost a bit of respect for that basschatter. Also, I think since the charges came in there isn’t the same basschat spirit that used to exist in the classifieds, all be it with a few exceptions. Apart from being legal, immediately flipping for a profit isn’t a million miles away from ticket touting.
  14. Is it just me or is this Deja vu of a thread from last week? Considering all the benefits available on basschat, it baffles me that anyone would have an issue with paying.
  15. Watched Raye on BBC One last night and thought it was one of the better musical performances I’ve seen in a while. Almost Amy Winehouse territory. The bass player was terrific and I now have F bass GAS. On IPlayer for anyone who didn’t catch it. https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m001zq01
  16. 😍 if you ever sell….. ect ect
  17. It’s a blight on the standards of this country that such practice is tolerated whether it’s selling houses, cars, guitars or anything else. I would like to think that most would condemn the shops actions and no one on Basschat would go back on a deal like this scenario.
  18. A bit of over enthusiasm and a bit of desperation. The blame should lie with the shop. They made the original deal and shouldn’t have entertained anything else after that. A true display of greed.
  19. Says Athens, Greece in the title
  20. I used a trolley to get to a gig in central London via the tube and by the time I got to the venue I was exhausted. Then after setting up one of the other bands put his full pint on my amp, so in my short fuse state I let him know what I thought about it. Got fired from my band the next day!
  21. This is a healthy reminder of why I stay the hell away from gigging!
  22. Yes, although heavier than my Fender
  23. I’m glad it’s in the hands of a player rather than someone who could potentially be a collector or seller, but it’s bad of a shop to renegade on an agreed sale.
  24. I can’t remember if it should be stamped or not for this age, but if the neck has been off you’d think it would have been photographed and included in the advert. This is where Andy Baxter is at the forefront of the vintage market.
