  1. Sire V5. I have one, it’s awesome and would have saved me a lot of wasted money had it been around when I was a youngster! Only negative is weight, my mex P feels a lot lighter.
  2. Unless someone has a s/h one for sale I don’t believe you can. I thought they were custom made and anyway?
  3. Tell them to use this picture for inspiration
  4. What does it weigh? Only the conscience of 200+ basschatters 😂
  5. Ditto. My Fender bass is perfect but it was a Ltd edition with Lindy Fralin replacement pups, so could be reproduced as a signature. If I was gigging on a world stage, this would be the bass!
  6. Who is this Andy chap? Has he been on here long? 😉 Best of luck, hope things get sorted for you soon wherever the help comes from. But in the meantime it’s great that the BC community has helped out so generously!
  7. Jazz typically teaches you more about harmony than other genres, because standards are typically repetitive in form but not in the notes that are played. To play jazz you need to fully understand the notes available, how they make up the chords, how you can manipulate the sound, and how you can solo through changes. This is not necessarily the case across all genres but learn these key fundamentals and you should be able to navigate a tune in any other genre.
  8. I’ve had a number of very good teachers but Joe Hubbard pushed my playing along more than anyone else. I also got a lot from just watching Daf work his magic on the west end. Being up close in a pit for one of London’s biggest shows was an incredible experience, and I picked up different tips each time.
  9. It could also be that the account has been hacked… that’s happened before too so I’d definitely check in with the mods first.
  10. Nearly pulled the trigger on this but only got a few more months of gear abstinence to go. Great buy for someone not partaking/ already out: https://thebassgallery.com/collections/bass-new-arrival/products/ken-smith-5
  11. I’m very much guilty of comparing to prices over twenty years ago. I traded mine for a value of £500 in around 2009. But there were quite a few around there at the time. But because Fender, Musicman, Gibson and Warwick all put their prices up around 10 years ago, £2-3k has become the norm for a quality instrument.
  12. I now feel guilty for not buying my bass a Christmas present in its 7 years of life. I didn’t know I was mistreating it so badly!
  13. I’d get a US SUB. I made the mistake of thinking a full fat 3EQ US Stingray would be better but while the fit and finish obviously was, it didn’t have the 2EQ growl I’d loved previously.
  14. Hang on….. I’m being framed now 😅 I wasn’t expecting this twist!
  15. Early Xmas present? We’re in October 😂 nice try!
  16. Sure 😜
  17. What a way to do it! I’ve never heard the name and surprised it ended up at Fair Deal Music of all places! Also surprised Fodera are allowing him to straight up copy their designs…. Regardless you got a really sweet deal there.
  18. A bit OT, but IMO a plagiarist is someone who copies like for like. Find me a musician that hasn’t been influenced by anything or anyone else. They don’t exist. Stu’s lines and styles were evidently influenced by those the bass community often refer to as the players that pushed bass playing forward, which is all the more impressive considering his few years of learning before writing the lines to these tunes. The most striking attributes for me is how effortless his timing is and with how much ease he navigates the fingerboard. Twenty years of learning and I don’t have it the way he did after two!
  19. There’s something afoot here!
  20. You see I didn’t mind it as a showcase of ability. But I couldn’t enjoy that format for more than 5 minutes. It’d be interesting how they manage to change up the narrative of 3 guys soloing for a whole show.
  21. Didn’t one of these pass through the forum a long time ago? edit: found it
  22. Obviously, we all have several don’t we?
  23. Shame you had to go through that. Even living the other end of the country I will only go to the bass gallery
  24. I don’t think Sire are worried….
  25. Warmoth sell separate parts or can build them to your spec. They even show the weight of the bodies already in stock. Only ever heard good things from those that have bought them. Also P bass bodies can be just as heavy as J bass bodies.
