  1. Sound like a case of modeller and FRFR to me. It makes sense - you can get a FRFR that can point at your head like a wedge... and any tonal inaccuracies that you don't like, you can tweak out at the model. EQ, more grit/less grit, etc...etc... Modellers are so good now, it's a route that you'd be foolish to not look into. With an amp and cab, you have preset sounds backed in... that are very difficult to remove or influence. As you've experienced, the EBS has quite a hyped top end - thats largely due to their use of the Selenium tweeter and the crossover point that EBS implement. I actually think it's sound very, very musical, especially with the EBS amps. Maybe the problem in the top end lies with the amp and not the cabinet? I use a Kemper but generally only use it for one sound - but the profile that I am using on it is perfect for what I am looking for. I'm intrigued as to why you are against inears. If you run a decent set of inears - and I'm not talking Shure 215s, then there's a whole revelation waiting for you. I've spent as much on my inears as my powered Kemper and remote - and it's by far the best sound I've had on stage ever. Massive lows, incredible detail... and the added benefit of not going more deaf after every gig.
  2. The fart post? Or the OP?
  3. 1. - for me it depends on the bass...but yeah, does look a bit industrial. 2 - downside is that it naturally creates a weak point, even if you try and counteract with a volute. 3- you can fit these systems to neck thrus ok.
  4. So just caught up on the sarod stuff. There's bits that I can appreciate... for example, the skill of getting the intonation spot on and build up in tempo and feeling... but as far as tunes go, I don't think I will remember it down the line... but there was definitely some bits that made my ears prick up a little. I'm not sure I could dig on it for an hour though. Maybe it's a lot to with the instrument in question too. Alot of improv bass leaves me cold too... probably because a lot of the time it would sound a lot better on the guitar. I'm trying... but I'm still tempted to lob this kinda stuff into room 101 along with the inappropriate use of fx pedals. Maybe crazy improv with inappropriate use of fx pedals is the complete nemesis. Anybody care to share any examples? And furthermore, find something that bucks the trend? Actually, add into the mix, the overuse of technique to the determent of the music actually being played.
  5. Sock? Or full on stockings?
  6. I just PMed this but probably worth sharing... but this is what fire looks like. Mastery of the whammy too. Face melting stuff.
  7. It's simple. Take any bass. Add sock. Become bass playing savant.
  8. It's amazing how the addition of a sock can give everything clarity. Perhaps that what was missing from the performance in the opening post...?
  9. I take it you not seen Mononeon before? Started life as Polyneon. I reckon he's defo the one that is pushing boundaries at the moment... defo one to watch. Last bass player with Prince too. No small accolade.
  10. Microtonal stuff I can actually get with a bit more... for example, check out Mononeon's take on it. - but again, a fine line between music, muzak and complete out of tune BS.
  11. #1 video in the world for one day. Can't argue with that.
  12. There's a tune!
  13. I feel an engine noise thread coming on....
  14. I feel like I'm in a really obvious game within the Crystal Maze now, wearing an ill fitting jump suit, knowing full well that everybody at home behind the tele is shouting at me, "What a Richard!, just freaking listen and get it already you ****!".
  15. I give up!
  16. What happened to the days of just putting a CD on and just listening? It seems this improv stuff is a complete mission. Right, attitude adjustment... an hour of Qigong should get me there.
  17. Big in the 60 and 70s you say? So was LSD. Hmm... Its true what you say about music bringing an emotive response. This sort of stuff actually makes me quite angry - so maybe thats a valid form of response... a response that said authors may or may have not been going for... but they have succeeded in some sort of emotional attachment. That's got to be a more interesting response than indifference I guess.
  18. Got it... we all thought they were gearing up to play "Walk of Life" at 0:29?
  19. Is the joke that they appear to have scores in front of them?
  20. Did I miss the joke? I'll give it a second listen.
  21. Always good to see Collier cropping up at these jazz events. Even at the end of this masterpiece. (OK, he's in the audience doing some weird clap at the end)
  22. What...?! 😛 Funnily enough, if you check - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_songs_recorded_by_the_Spice_Girls - you'll find they are quite the songwriters apparently - although I'm not entirely sure if they aren't just squatting on songwriting credits. If so, Halliwell needed to up her game.
  23. Just watching this now. I'm getting Jojo's contribution. The rest is still mostly nonsense to me. I think guitarists are largely the people that grate on my senses. But as a bass player, thats to be expected... right?
  24. Tough gig - knowing that the guy on the piano can play your instrument better than you can....
