I've got the Delano MM/J active/passive hybrids on my Shuker and would highly recommend them. Very versatile, and some excellent Stingray and Jazz sounds. I would have thought they would fit your Flea meets Marcus criteria perfectly. You get some really good tones, run active or passive.

I'm strangely happy with the collection I've got at the moment - bit weird being Gas free! But it would be nice to add a Ric and a 60s Precision. My big regret is missing out a few years back on a relatively cheap '64 Precision, with the neck date stamped "5 Nov 64" - which just happens to be my date of birth. I realise the 5 is the model number, not the date - but it would have been a rather nice talking point!
Not got the new one yet but I've only just read the Freebass "review" from the one before. Could you please review it again and concentrate on its unique features: the clarity of sound and the models?
+1 to that. It did seem bizarre that a review of a wireless system with modelling, didn't comment on the quality of the modelling. As to the current edition, I agree with the comments on the interviews. A vast improvement over the previous format, more informative and better written. Like others, my gripe is on the gear reviews. I haven't got a copy in front of me, but from memory there isn't a review of a bass under £1000 in there. There is way too much focus on top end equipment. Its a bit like buying "What car" magazine, only to get reviews of Ferraris. I enjoy reading about top end stuff as much as anyone, but there do need to be reviews of everyday equipment as well. But, overall a vast improvement, and a better read - in fact I've renewed my subscription. Oh, and a +1 to whoever suggested Bruce Thomas. An interview with Colin Moulding would be good too.
lots of warwick owners on here, but no warwick thread! I can't get enough of looking at them, so here's a thread for them I'll start you off with my corvette $$, best feeling bass i've ever played, i love it! Sounds really nice too, plenty of growl!
Very nice bass as I recall. I may well have it back when you decide to move it on!!
IIRC, the design on which these are based are nice, simplistic and very pleasing to the ear, but a drop in bass response will be noticed. Even more so if you play a 5er.
+1. I used to have one. Gave a nice tight "squashed" tone, but you do lose a bit in the bottom end.
Any one got any views on them
I used to have the 5 string version. Very nice basses and very versatile tonewise. Everything from a traditional thumpy P tone, through to a very passable Stingray tone. They're heavy though, and the necks a quite chunky - more P than J.

I used to have one in my MIA Jazz. I'd recommend them highly - easy to fit, and give a really nice range of usable tones.
Anyone after a Sansamp BDDI should check out this Behringer clone, it sounds just as good and is cheap as chips!
And actually is more solidly built than most Behringer stuff! I'm only selling this because I'm using and EBS microbass as a pre-amp.
I'd like to add, after trying both I actually bought this one. It's better and WAY cheaper than the Boss. Only downside is it won't survive being lobbed out of a window...if you were to do such a thing.
Cheers - certainly agree re the Behringer OD. I've owned the Boss pedal, and soundwise there's not a lot in it. Boss is clearly built like a brick, but if you do lob it out of the window, you can replace the Behringer four or five times for the same price

+1 For PMT in Brum. Amazing range of stock and very helpful. Reverb in Brum was pretty poor for bass stock last time I went there. Fairdeal Music is worth a visit though.

London International Music Show
simon1964 replied to Jean-Luc Pickguard's topic in General Discussion
I think the show has lost direction to be honest. It doesn't seem to know whether its a trade fair, a consumer retail show, or a tuition / band showcase. It seems to be trying to be all three, and not actually doing any of them well. The Warwick stand was great, with some really nice basses, and impressive Framus guitars. But given the quality of the show, you could hardly blame them if they felt that it was a waste of time and money exhibiting next year. -
I'm having a clearout of the pedals which I'm not using. All listed below - happy to post pics SOLD Line 6 Bass Floor Pod - Effectively the EQ and modelling section of the Low Down amps in a pedal. 5 amp models, synth, EQ, compression, tuner and effects in a very easy to use format. Includes the proper Line 6 power supplyDetails from Line 6 site here: http://uk.line6.com/bassfloorpod/. These retail for £116 at GAK - £65 posted? SOLD SOLD Boss LMB 3 Limiter / Enhancer - details on GAK site here: http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/en/lmb-3/2435. This gives nice easy to use compression, built like a tank. I never use the enhance function, but as I understand it, it is efectively a mid scoop. £35 posted. SOLD SOLD EHX Russian Bassballs - not sure these are made any more, or how much they go for. In good nick, and still in the wooden box these come in. £30 posted? SOLD Behringer BDI 21 (Sansamp clone) - scratched on the front, but in perfect working order. £20 posted Behringer BOD 100 Bass Overdrive - blatant rip off of the Boss Overdrive, with a surprisingly good sound. £15 posted Behringer BEQ700 - 7 band graphic EQ pedal. £15 posted I'm after a small pedal board, so if you have something which you may want to trade against any these, please PM!
well, i managed to blag a freebie, and went today notable brands on display were markbass, but alas only the DI box and booster pedal on display, some pleasant looking warwicks on display (particularly a very nice vampyre NT in red - only about £5,250!), the new fender/ boss pedal from roland, and the pitchfactor from eventide that really stick in my mind. unfortunately, no fender, Dean, rosetti, spector, Ashdown, GB guitars / ebs, gibson (except in the trade area - such that it was). oh, and far too many people on a bass that think it's cool to make all kinds of wackety-clackety-nails-in-a-drum-type sounds. to be honest, i wouldn't of paid to go. quite disappointing really.
+1 - pretty much sums up my take on it. Enjoyed Guthrie govan, and some nice demos on some stands. But with the exception of the Musicman and Warwick stands, I thought the gear on display was disappointing. Compared with previous years, the absence of Fender,Rossetti, Dean, Ashdown etc made it pretty limited. And the retail area was very poor. -
After some research into replacement bridges, badass and gotoh seem to be popular options. Clearly the badass bridge is more expensive than the gotoh - is the badass better for improving the tone of the bass? Thanks
I've used both. The Gotoh is really nice, big improvement over the stock Fender Bridge, and a fraction of the price of the Badass. The Badass is great too, but I'm not sure its worth paying the extra. And you don't have to file the string slots on the Gotoh.

Lots of good names on here - and +1 to all the mentions of Bruce Foxton. Plus I don't think Mark Stoermer from The Killers has been mentioned yet.
Sounds like you want more Low-mids...Recently switching to a Stingray myself I'll say that having one pickup at the bridge gives you HUGE ammounts of bright, biting tone...But a loss in low mids. Can't suggest anything I'm afraid...Not sure strings will do that job and heavier strings won't sort that out either. Chances are your already using 45-105, asuming only, therefore anything heavier isn't gonna help you.
+1. Stingrays can lack low mids, which I missed when switching from my Warwick. I'm now using an EBS microbass to dial in some low mids and the tone is fantastic. I've got all the character of the Stingray tone, but with a bit more low end growl.

Single cut bass guitars are the Devil's spawn
simon1964 replied to thepurpleblob's topic in Bass Guitars
Heh, Interesting point about the neck dive though. I was considering buying a squire telecaster, hadn't thought about the balance issue.
I've got a telecaster (guitar) which is great. No neck dive, and a joy to play. But the extra length of a bass neck makes all the difference, and tele shaped basses all seem to have serious neck dive. Someone once told me that to balance well on a strap, the top horn on a bass needs to stretch up towards the twelth fret. Tele shape doesn't get close, hence the neck dive. Which is presumably why Mr Fender shaped the Precision body the way he did. Tele shaped basses still look cool, though! -
Maybe so, but they're not single-cuts, are they? There's a definite concavity where the top 'horn' joins the neck joint. Double-cut! [/controversy]
Definitely singlecuts - no concavity there! As much as I love the look of telecaster shaped basses, I've never played one that balanced right on the strap - the top "horn" is so short that you get really bad neck dive. -
Recomend me some RHCP songs to learn please :D
