1. Here's some info on the Sica: http://www.teamaudio.fr/en/sica-10-l-2-5-sl-8ohm.html. Cost around £80. It looks quite good as far as you can tell from just the specs and Sica do make some quality drivers (Ashdown use some of their cheaper models). It's probably worth rescuing if you can get hold of a recone kit and can put up with the hassle of organizing it. The spec says foam surround. Is that right? If so, you will find it hard to get a replacement that will go as low, although the Celestion I recommended will do it. I read that this driver is available in a number of impedances - so check whether you have a 4- or 8-ohm version before getting a replacement. It might also be worthwhile dropping Tecamp an email.
2. He said in passing that the amp will produce its maximum output into either 8 or 4 ohms. That's quite interesting. I agree about the Superfly. They've had 12 years to refine it.
3.
Oor Wullie is still my fav.
Do you realize that the vast majority of forum members don't have a clue what you're talking about and are now googling madly?
4.
btw stevie : that's an awfae strange accent fur a Dorset boy.
I may live in god's little acre now, but I've been around.... I've read the Sunday Post.
5.
Ooh dont know about wires, all sealed in, so how do I check?
You would have to measure the resistance using an meter. By the way (and please don't think I'm insulting your intelligence here), the first thing I would do here is plug the basses in and tap the polepieces with a small screwdriver to make sure both coils are working. I'm sure you've done that, but might as well mention it just in case.
6.
Stevie, why do you think that? It's still fine above 'C' and is OK at lower volumes. I'd expect a transistor to either work or not.
Oops, sorry... (hitting myself over the head) I didn't read carefully enough. As far as replacement drivers are concerned, I wouldn't worry about modelling them, just get something close to the Spica specification. For a budget 10 with a ceramic magnet, one of the Fane Sovereigns would be good. If you want some real quality, look at the Celestion NTR10-2520E - at a price (although there are more expensive options around). LawrenceH has been trying that one out recently and maybe he'll catch this thread. I wouldn't bother with the Deltalite personally - the Celestion is a much better driver at not much more money.
7. I do have some inside information but I'm saying nowt as it's not conclusive and Chris may be perfectly right that Mark likes his toys.
8. Wired series is a louder than wired parallel. Whether that applies here, I dinna ken.
9. Sold Tim an amp and it was very straightforward and pleasant. He's one of the good guys.
10. It sounds like you're going to have to do more than just replace the fan and speaker. I think there's a good chance the faulty fan may have taken out your output transistors.
11.
Everything = Mark King to be fair. The man's a ridiculous gear whore
I think you might find the band's manager has something to do with that.
12.
Become fashionable and cool. They need a Flea or a Geddy, Nathan East aint cutting it.
I agree with this. It's all about image and who uses your product. It's critical. Let's face it, who wants to go on stage with a Benson or a Lindo?
13. Only one bass here. I have owned two at various times but I found I only played the one I preferred. However, I can switch between a Precision and a Stingray sound and that's enough for me.
14. I do like a good mystery!
15. Fair enough (we're only having a bit of fun).
16. Oh, I missed that. What did it say?
17.
.... If so, I have.
Indeed. It says so in your sig.
18. There are an awful lot of people reading this thread ......
19. I've got a lot of time for Ashdown but they really should poach the TC Electronics marketing team, who are streets ahead of anyone else in the business at the moment. From what I can see, their main selling points are price and a custom front panel. They've got an uphill struggle now, even though they were one of the very first in the race. They're not going to get another chance at this niche market sector. I really hope they've done their homework. The comments on here so far indicate that they haven't.
20. This is very generous. I think the whole Basschat community owes you a pint.
21. The tuning sounds out when you're playing up the neck. When you're lower down it's OK. I wonder if your bridge is adjusted properly. Have you tried checking your tuning at the octave? I could be completely wrong though....
22.
Stevie is becoming my new favourite. Basic trolling done brilliantly and non-argumentatively.
You are too kind, sir I certainly think that anyone who puts forward a strong opinion ought to be able to back it up. But really, it was just a straightforward question. Bergantino is obviously doing something right judging from the company's reputation amongst players.
23.
The view that Bergantino just uses "bits in a box" is one that can be disagreed with and also dismissed.
Care to elaborate?
24.
I am always a little suspect of these kinds of endorsements. Wal never have endorsees, only people who buy the damn things. THe process has far more integrity that way. If Geddy has a Wal, its because he wanted a Wal and bought one. Speaks volumes.
It does indeed, and you're right to be sceptical. But Wal is a small manufacturer and probably happy to stay that way. Be that as it may, I've seen the way a good endorsee can send your sales through the roof.
25.
Hey, I'm not actually complaining. I'm just discussing my opinion. This is allowed. Please dont dismiss other views just because you might not agree.
I'm not dismissing your view in the slightest - honest! I'm just making the case for using a high quality speaker system for bass. Whether you get such a system by spending a lot of money is, as you quite rightly point out, in the lap of the gods, because it's often difficult to know what you're getting for your money.
