1.
im loving all these interviews! really well written and i just love reading all this geek stuff hahaa
same here - plus looking forward to hearing Castrovalva in Bristol next month
2. i agree with the muff recommendations - have a fuzzrocious grey stache myself and it really nails bass fuzz for what i need. i used to have a wren and cuff fuzz, their stuff is also highly recommended...
3.
That's what I sold my Bass Drive for, but remember it doesn't have the separate boost which I used to find really helpful.
yeah - i did the same, but got a fat phuk b to put in front of the BB, covers all my boost/od needs
4. oh wow - didn't think i'd see these two up for sale... here's hoping i win the lottery this weekend, i'd be knocking on your door monday morning if I had the £££...
5. nice bass - i'd be very tempted if i wasn't getting a blazer this month! 80's jap basses are just the way forward...
6. let us know what you think, blows any other muff i've tried out the water! I have the gate on mine but with a toggle, i like cutting to a quieter, gated sound then straight back to full on fuzz! which diodes did you go for? i have Ge and LED on mine... Ge gives a lovely, smooth low gain fuzz, found myself using this clipping almost as much as the stock setting. LED to my ears is really similar to the normal tone, only notice a bit of a difference when everything is pretty heavy/loud. you have a PN-2 as well don't you - stache into that trem at some of the less subtle trem settings leads to immense goodness
7. Just saw this thread and read the interview with Ry - good work sir, i'm looking forward to the next pedal builder features. If anybody is remotely curious about Ry's pedals after reading this, i REALLY recommended checking them out. My grey stache is just awesome, definitely my fave pedal
8. OK, can't wait til Saturday, PM incoming
9. yeah, i could probably manage that - though it'd be a bit of a pain carrying 2 basses back on the train if i picked up the blazer! and no, not going to leave you the JV
10. this is really tempting, RELLY tempting, and only a short train hop from Bristol!!! if this is still here saturday....
11. here's the latest version of my little board, out with the booster and in with the delay, the new band is becoming more shoe-gazey and sludgey
12. wow - just stumbled across this thread and there are some fantastic JV's here, Rick your two basses are particularly stunning!! Here are my two JV's: both of these basses get gigged a lot, and i've changed the bridges on both (Badass II on the right and a GOTOH on the left), they obviously don't look period correct, but i have noticed an improvement in tone, plus i quite like chunky bridges!!! (still have the original bridges just in case) original pickups in the sunburst JV (JV20XXX) and seymour duncan vintage in the other (JV59xxx), but probably going to swap out the SD's for some lindy fralins this year. The olympic white has turned a lovely creamy off-white Both are great basses, though the white P is my fave, i've had it for longer, and the neck is just amazing, plays like a dream...
13. i totally trust the person who has been servicing the amp - but he is not an amp specialist ... Oli, could you PM me info for who you recommend? once the amp is (hopefully) back up and working again, will take you up on your offer RE trying out the cab cheers
14. yeah, i think i really need to find somebody in the SW who knows old fender amps inside and out... for all my talk of new little amps etc, it'd kill me to sell my bassman, it is THE sound i want/love, but i have been having problems with it for a few years now, maybe it just needs the right person to really give it a proper going over - any recommendations? back to cabs, oli will that 2x15 on it's own be all I need - don't want to have more than 1 cab if i can help it!
15. i was looking at the barefaced cabs earlier, they look good. what's a super 15?
16. hey - this is a rare voyage outside of the effects forum for me, but I need some advice on amps and cabs, and my knowledge of bass amps is still based in the 1970's I've been using a fender bassman 135 for 10 years, and a big heavy 4x12 cab. getting fed up with the sheer bulk of this setup, plus the annual amp servicing and tube replacement costs, etc, so very tempted to sell up and change to a smaller amp and more efficient cab (plus my bass is always DI'ed at gigs anyway!) I am tempted by the orange terror bass, and maybe an OBC115, but just found out about the matamp bass 500, and their 2x12 cab looks great. anybody have any advice? I've used an orange terror at a gig recently and whilst obviously not sounding as good as the bassman, it was pretty impressive. I play passive precision and jazz basses, lots of overdrive and fuzz pedals too. my main fear in moving away from all valve amps is that my dirt pedals won't sound as sweet into hybrid amps - any opinions? thanks folks
17. over-priced, as it can be had in the states for less than $130. You could import one cheaper than paying UK prices - but from the clips i've heard it sounds absolutely rubbish!
18. i had an american big muff, then the bass muff. loved the USA muff in the bedroom, but rubbish in band setting. the bass muff was a little bit better, but i didn't like the tone as much. then got a wren and cuff tri pie 70, which sounded better than both, but still got somewhat lost in a band. then sold them all and got a fuzzrocious grey stache - the mid control makes it a badass, it just cuts through really nicely. plus it has a footswitch for a gate mode, and different diode clipping, so it covers all the muff-related needs I have (well, most of them)
19. ace little setup - but good lord, where are you playing that there is no room for a mini??
20. wow - i have one of these in a yellow/mustardy cream finish - they are fantastic jazzes - you'll struggle to get anything else close to this nice for £550 i reckons!! bump-eroo
21. you had me very confused for a minute there yeah - monkey nuts are the tits!
22. reposted from over on TB... now i'm playing in 2 bands, annoyingly, i have to rearrange my board 2 or 3 times every week :/ TU-2 and phat phuk B are on both boards, but the BB-preamp and DD-3 are removed for my newer band, and on with the angler, grey stache and PN-2. having a lot of fun with this, and hoping for a lottery win so i can get another PT-mini, TU-2 and phat B, to stop all this dayum board re-jigging all the time!
23. Hey Jon - welcome to BC... i'm moving to Melbourne from the UK in the summer, what's the music scene like in the city? any websites you can recommend for musicians wanted, etc?? cheers gaz
24. yeah - delay and trem and you're set nicely hope you're digging the OSD
25. bump for still not sorting out a picture, tonight i promise !!!
