1. This is a bargain! My son has one - fantastic player and great sound. Have a bump on me..
2. I used to play acoustic nights with a Jazz and a Line 6 amp - I took a line out to the PA and used a low volume on stage to monitor. Everyone seemed very happy with the results.. I looked at the spec on the Laney, but couldn't see a line out.. you could mic it up or even use the 'phones socket at a push.
3. Very, very nice! Is that 'fender' scale length?
4. Thanks Garry, I haven't really explored samplers as yet - but this has me interested...
5. Milton, you totally miss my point...... I took exception to the abrasive manner with which you dismissed White Cloud - i don't agree with the analogy myself either, but then I'd be polite enough to discuss my different opinion without calling anyone's opinion useless.... It seems I'm flogging a dead horse trying to get you to show a bit of consideration to others - obviously you don't get out much.
6.
Oh dear. I don't think saying the word 'hate' is abrasive or abusive, is it? I saw no malice in Milty's post. He makes a valid point. There's a lot of things I really dislike being implied online too, but that's the nature of a General Discussion forum.
You must have missed the post describing someone's opinion as useless and that he hated it enough to emphasize the word in capitals....
7.
Its ok dude, not worth getting excited about. Its easy for individuals to be abrasive, rude and obnoxious over a keyboard online. Its an unfortunate downside of internet communications between strangers who will never meet face to face. Apologies to any other members who found my use of analogies useless and hateful lol!
Sorry If I caused you any discomfort, man. I found milty's post abrasive and dismissive - which you took on the chin well. I just needed to point out that this should not be considered the norm. History has surely taught us the vile nature of hate... I really dislike it being implied in any conversation...
8. Talking loose fold here.. hold both jacks, bring other end to meet - send those to meet again and repeat, tie loosely when desired. Never had a lead go bad yet...
9. and read this while you're at it....
10.
Because they are useless analogies that people seem to chuck up no matter what is being discussed. No smilie.
And that warrants HATE? Have a word with yourself!
11. I really am trying to stay away from that 'just tweak a little more' thing I do... mostly due to being enlightened by this post by yep on the Reaper forum. The thread itself is a great read also...
12. As above but with no velcro.... fold in half and repeat until short enough to tie itself loosely - put in a lead case with the other leads and they stay independent. (credit where its due to Matt the guitarist)
13.
The 'why do we need to perform live?' Q puzzled me for years until I heard the great Rabbath explain. He says the adrenalin slows down time, so you have forever to form each note, and that's a very special thing. Spot on. No amount of rehearsal gets that adrenalin going. You have to have an audience.
The feeling described very well above is what I looked forward to most.... used to take me hours to 'come down'
14.
Yes, they are negative words, that's why i used them
Just wondering why so vehemently negative - I found them uselessly hateful tbh.... (no smilie)
15. Heh, uploaded in around 15 mins on 40mb fibre - gave me just enough time to do the joint...
16. As the mixes are going to be transcoded by soundcloud I have rendered at 48/24... the file size is 98meg- is that too big?
You will have my mix over the weekend - just trying to source a facility which will allow me to host a 59.4MB wav.........
I have used Dropbox - up to 2GB hosting free...
17. Scooped cuts the mids - like a 'smile' EQ setting.... not so good for a Precision tone IMHO.
18. I got nothing more useful to offer than forget chrome and use Aurora....
19.
heh, best as in the most in need of polishing?
Not at all, seems to be well tracked all round - I'm really enjoying mixing this one
20. Thanks Si, work here is underway - I'm thinking the drums are the best we've had to work with so far...
21. Thanks for posting - I haven't heard Mr Clean in years... Great job!
22. I reckon the same as the difference between a gigging bassist and and a bedroom player - True self belief that you'll give give a great performance with a good tight like minded band.
23.
** NO ONE POST A LINK TO THEIR MIX IN ANY THREAD: PM ME WITH THEM INSTEAD **
Roger that
24. Whatever you do - lock in with the kick...
25.
You cannot listen to these things in isolation and conclude that the playing is sloppy, that absolutely isn't the way a a record is made or is meant to be judged. Someone posted up a John Deacon bass line in isolation a month or two back saying the same. The fact is that the bass take is reliant on an entire ensemble recording, not itself, a bass part is rarely a self-contained thing. So the idiosyncrasies of the band are what make a record or live recording, not individual parts. I think people regularly misconstrue what it actually takes to record a great track, it's rarely about perfection, it's about the sum of the parts working together towards the best possible sounding track. The mistakes in dynamics and timing are simply the human part of the performing and recording process, the idea that we are by our nature imperfect and it should be accepted as such. The isolated parts of a recording are not for consumption because they aren't reflecting the fact that when you play with more than just yourself in your bedroom rehearsing you will have to adapt to the limitations of your environment, whether these limitations be technological or human. Once you accept this it's far easier to enjoy recorded music for what it is, which is totally honest musicianship.
Very well put. I'll make the comparison with computer based music... listen to midi generated drums, percussion etc, that has been made precisely to time and with constant velocity- it will sound unnatural, robotic and soulless. To make it sound 'right' I have to deliberately take a 'perfect' beat and make it 'sloppy' - my DAW will actually do this for me with it's 'humanize' function.... Same goes for bass...
