1.
It all depends on how many wires you have coming from the pickups in your retrovibe. By the looks of the diagram, there are 4 wires coming from each of the T40 pickups. I have a feeling the T40 pickups are extra special. The controls give the capability of sweeping from humbucker to single coil and phase shifting potential for the bridge pickup built in. I really miss my T40. I should get another one.
I'm not very technically minded re electronics etc, but I've just taken delivery of a beautiful T40 (bought here on BC from Old Horse Murphy) and my first impressions are that it's a fantastic instrument - worth twice the £400 I paid for it in terms of quality of construction, feel/playability and tonal variety. Loving it. And amazing value. Go get yourself another one!
 2.
If only I could fit one of these in the boot of my A3 :-(
Can't you? They're pretty small. But then I don't know how small an A3 boot is...
 3. No interest in these lovely cabs? I'm awarding myself a bump. Still not exactly desperate to sell, as they're great on so many levels - but gotta keep finding ways to vent the old GAS! I really like the idea of trying Barefaced, or the great-looking, new, red Vanderkley 12s.... Maybe i've pitched the price too high? Well, I'm open to serious offers, but any deal is going to have to make some kind of sense for me too!
 4. Sold. Thanks for a very pleasant and easy transaction Rowley Birkin QC.
 5.
As far as I remember this lovely P-Bass was all original when I sold it to alhbass a couple of years ago! It was ( and almost certainly still is ) a terrific example of a Fender Japan P-Bass, and the frets had plenty of life left in them! Will.
Thanks very much Will. Greatly appreciated.
 6.
Hi Al, I'm very interested in this bass, can you confirm what the fret wear is like (if there is any) and does it still have the original electronics? Appreciate it might not be easy to tell on the electronics front, but, then again you may be an electronics guru!!!!! Cheers Rowley
Hello mate, thanks for your interest. It's a terrible admission to make for someone who likes to think of himself as at least a step or two above being a mere beginner level bass player, but I don't really know what to look for re the frets. They seem fine to me. Same story with the electrics. You might get much more technically competent answers from 2x18 - he sold it to me, and other than changing the scratchplate, adding the ashtray and adjusting the action a bit, it's exactly as it was when I took it off him. In fact, I'll chase him up myself and see if I can get more info to post here for all to see. Cheers anyway. Happy to take detailed pics though, if that would help? Let me know if it would?
 7.
These are great basses and Al is a great guy to deal with Have a bump on me
Thanks very much for that Nick.
 8.
It looks just like Entwistle's legendary Frankenstein P bass - well it does with the white scratchplate! Apologies for any confusion. I just wish I had a spare £400 knocking about
Ah, ok - I get you now. Thanks for the clarification!
 9.
E- Series, great instruments. I have one that was identical to this, but used it in a project in the Build Diary section, so now it doesn't really look the same at all! Still plays just as good. With all the hype around JV series at the moment this should be snapped up at that price, given it was made in the same factory only a year or so later. Good luck with the sale!
Thanks!
 10.
Could it be like FrankenFender? I'm lost too
I added the ashtray and changed the original white pickguard to the black tort one - other than that, it's what it says on the tin!
 11.
I don't solo (I can't anyway, so that was an easy decision to make!) and I don't like bass solos, I don't like listening to them, I don't like seeing others play them. I actually like bass solos even less than I like drum solos and that's really sayin' something. Apart from this one: http://www.youtube.c...tsrq9C9YE#t=139
Yup. Amen to that. +1
 12.
Love it! Just like Frankenstein.
Forgive me if I'm being slow witted (though I am both blonde and a bass player, so make the necessary allowances), but I don't quite catch your drift re the Frankenstein thing....?
 13. Purchased a couple of years ago from highly reputable BC'er 2x18, this was my principal gigging instrument for some time. More recently been my back-up bass (since acquiring my lovely Yamaha 1024). It's a great instrument - plays as good as it looks - and is offered for sale with both the scratch plates shown below. It's currently strung with flatwounds, and is set up with a medium-low action. According to the Fender website, the serial number dates it between 1984 and 1987. But I've got GAS for something else, and under the domestic "one in, one out" agreement, it's got to go. So, as I'm in a bit of a rush to sell, £400 plus P&P will secure you a great instrument... You're welcome to try before you buy if you're in the York area - otherwise I'm happy to post. If posting I'll pack it well (I've packed and posted several instruments safely in the last few years) and send it in a rugged Stagg semi-rigid case which is no longer any use to me for gigging because the handles are broken, but which will serve very well for protection in transport. Please let me know if you're interested. Cheers. Sorry but no trades thanks. 14. I love these cabs, and if they don't sell it'll be no great hardship to hang on to them - but I'm as susceptible to GAS as the next guy, and after much consideration I've decided I really want to try going Barefaced... Both cabs in very good condition - they've been used for gigging and rehearsals for the last couple of years, but have been well looked after, and come with padded soft covers by Hotcovers. Specs from Markbass are easy to check up on, as are independent user reviews - but the basics are that they're 43cm cubes, weighing 17kg each (an easy, one-handed lift, to the point that I often carry one in each hand with my bass on my back) - yet they sound huge - warmer and richer than you'd expect - certainly more so than other, larger MB rigs I've owned in the past (410, 210). Great punch and characteristically clean and clear. Anyone in the area is welcome to come and give them a try... [s]£500 [/s] [s]£435 [/s]£400 each[s] or[/s] [s]£950[/s] [s]£850 for both[/s] Price given is for collection in person from York. Happy to send by post/courier - P&P not included. Thanks for looking. 15. Hey all - thanks for all the tips. I suspected there might be more to it than just cranking the lows! Thanks particularly Roland Rock - when you say "dub is not about an old school flatwound thump, but clean and close-to-the-fundamental depth with clarity and sustain" this is exactly my feeling - at least it best describes the kind of tone I'm after. I love all sorts of vintage sounds on my basses, and they're all strung with various types of flatwounds already. But like you, I'm not particularly looking for vintage, old school sounds here - it's that spaced-out, long sustained, smooth, frighteningly deep sound I'm after. Tho no great fan of John Lydon's "singing", I've recently been listening a lot to the most recent PiL album, and love the bass sounds on that.... Anyway, I'll try some of the (cheaper) suggestions above, and keep an eye on the thread for any further contributions. Thanks again.
 16.
If you've got an envelope filter, turn the threshold right up but the attack right down and it boosts your signal giving you some really dubby tones to play with.
What kind of envelope filter, for example..? I have a good compressor - wondering whether that might help at all?
 17. Hi - I could use a little advice about getting a good, fat, dub bass sound. I've generally used more conventional tones in the past, but in my current band I can really imagine a dub sound working well. But I'm new to it, and have found that simply turning down the top end and cranking up the lows on my amp eq doesn't get a good sound. I play a Fender Precision and a Yamaha BB1024 (both passive instruments) through a Markbass rig. I have a Markbass octaver, but dont really like the sound of the fully "wet" effect (it doesnt sound round and fat - its a bit buzzy and rough) - I like it for subtly fattening the dry signal, but that doesn't really get me where I want to be with a true dub sound. I can't afford a different bass right now, so that's not an option - just looking to do the best I can with the tools to hand... Might be able to purchase some kind of pedal or effect if that would help tho... Suggestions welcome. Thanks.....
 18. I'd love to take this off you - sadly I cant tho as I'm flat broke at the moment. Have a bump on me anyway.
 19. Can't believe this hasn't gone yet! Looks lovely. I had a 5 string version of this (same year too) and regret having sold.... Wish I had the funds to take this off your hands. Sadly not at the moment tho. Have a bump anyway.

No trades thanks. Purchased from reliable BCer 2x18 (see elsewhere for his feedback - you wont find a bad word!) this was my primary instrument for some time, until I acquired the Yamaha 1024x I now use earlier this year. Looks great, sounds great, feels great (as long as you like like proper P necks - not one for those nambys who like a slender Jazz neck!). Currently set up with a low to medium-low action, and strung with some very vintage sounding flats - tho I'll happily change those for roundwounds if the buyer prefers... I added the ashtray and the black pearloid scratchplate - the original white one is included in the sale too. If you're in the York area you're welcome to try before you buy. Collection in person preferred, but I'll post (at buyer's expense) if necessary. So that's £475 + P&P. Please contact me if you have any questions. Cheers, Al PS I'm going away for a week tomorrow (Sat 24th), so instrument will be available for trial/purchase from the 1st Sept. If I have internet reception while I'm away (I'm not sure I will) I'll reply to queries as soon as I can. If I don't reply til Sept, you'll know why...
 22. With you all the way then - even as far as the Vanderkleys are concerned - I'm very tempted by their wonderful look and good reviews, but haven't had an opportunity to try them yet (maybe it's undiplomatic to discuss that further on a MarkBass thread tho!). Love to try a Tube800 with my rig too....
 23. Fair enough. I'm thinking about it...
