Now Sold (pending payment). Thanks Nick. Hello. This fantastic, immaculate 2009 US Fender Jazz - is now for sale. Again. It's a great instrument, but I'm a Pbass man at heart. Got in a trade for my old Pbass V, and I've kept it much longer than I originally intended - but two recent Pbass aquisitions mean this one really has to go now... NOW £565 including a case (semi-rigid case - well used but in good nick, lightweight and very serviceable - pics to follow - now appended), but not including P&P/delivery costs. OR £550 without case (or P&P). Collection from York welcome, naturally. Thanks for looking... PS it's currently strung with D'Addario Chromes rather than the La Bella Slappers as pictured - but you can have it with whichever... PPS this instrument was previously owned by esteemed BCers Old Horse Murphy, and, before him, Clarky. So it has excellent pedigree!

Just bought a fine-looking Jap Pbass from Will. I'm very happy with it, and the transaction, which was just how they all should be - easy, friendly and efficient. Thanks.
Is Leeds too far? http://www.scottdevinemusic.com/live/ He's on BC too
Thanks for the suggestion, but I'm really hoping to find someone in York. I spend lots (my wife would say too many!) of my evenings travelling to Leeds for various musical things as it is. To have a realistic chance of fitting regular lessons in among my other commitments I think I need someone local. Thanks anyway.

Hi. I'm looking for a teacher to help me improve my entirely home-grown technique, and to teach me some funkier chops. I'm not an absolute beginner, and can read music etc (so I'm not looking for music theory lessons thanks) - but I ain't no Jaco! I'm quite commited to improving my playing, but ultimately I'm doing it for my own satisfaction, and for fun, so I'm not looking for anything too intense! Hoping to find someone local - I'm in York. Cheers, Al
For sales is a pair of genuine Fender chrome pickup covers (pickup and bridge plus screws) for a Fender 51/54/Telebass. They have been used but are in superb condition with no scratches etc. £20 inc P&P
Hey Nick, Any idea whether the pickup cover would fit on your old Precision Aerodyne that I now have? From what I can find out, these Aerodynes didn't have them when originally made, but as you know, this particular one has holes where someone has fitted one subsequently. And I quite fancy putting one back on to see how it looks. How different can Fender pickup covers be I wonder? Not having ever owned (or even played) an instrument with ashtrays I wouldn't know myself...

Suggestions For Flexible (low Tension), Light Gauge Strings
alhbass replied to alhbass's topic in Accessories and Misc
Also, just to add to the mix - a string with a round core, verses a hex core will have a more flexible feel. Quite a few manufacturers will state what type core their strings have.
Thanks - that's helpful. Am I right in thinking that the conventional wisdom is that steel strings are necessarily higher tension than others? -
Suggestions For Flexible (low Tension), Light Gauge Strings
alhbass replied to alhbass's topic in Accessories and Misc
Here's a curveball... Thomastik Jazz flatwounds. Flexible as hell, really full bottom end but surprisingly zingy for flats. The gauges don't look light (standard long-scale 4-string set runs 43-100), but they're so, so playable.
That sounds really interesting - thanks! I may well have a go with the DR Sunbeams too, as I've heard so much about them on BC, but it's great to get a more unusual recommendation - Cheers. -
Maybe I'm seeking the impossible..? I'm looking for a light gauge, low tension string - flexible (ie that will bend easily), that still retains a bit of body at the low end. I've tried two gauges of La Bella Slappers - Custom Light 30, 45, 65, 85 (they were very responsive - flexible and light as I'd hoped, but just too thin in bass tone to be useful) and 40, 60, 80, 100 (greatly improved bass tone, but much stiffer - too stiff to play the way I'd like to). I'm not particularly after a bright, zingy tone, but don't especially mind if they are... I'd welcome any recommendations or advice. Thanks.

Evening all. Just after a quick bit of advice re choice of strings for my Jazz. I usually use D'Addario Chromes, La Bella flats or Rotosound Tru Bass nylon flats, cos I generally prefer those kind of "vintage - ish" sounds. But I'm currently working on some fast, alt/funky stuff (inspired by Les Claypool type thing), with double thumbing and note-bending etc, which I'm sure would work better on some more flexible, lighter gauge strings. Not looking to spend a fortune, and I'm guessing some roundwounds are what I need (though I really don't want an over-bright sound if I can avoid it). The last time I tried to buy strings for this purpose I took a guess and went for Custom Light La Bella Slappers, which turned out to be so thin it was like playing cheese wire, and, to my ears at least, very lacking in tonal depth. Yeah yeah, I realise that being used to Chromes and Nylon Flats etc as I am pretty much anything is going to feel a bit thin in comparison - but the Slappers were a mistake, so your recommendations would be very welcome. Thanks.
MB used to make a LMK head. This is a two channel LM which allows you to switch between the two channel using a foot switch. Sounds like this is what your after. LMK These crop up second hand from time to time on here. No idea why they stopped making them.
Think they stopped making them in order to encourage people to consider their (in my view) rather silly MoMark series. With the MoMark system you can "create" an LMK from the modules, all be it at much greater cost, and lacking one of the filter options (I forget which off the top of my head). LMKs seem to come up second hand quite often, and relatively cheaply. I've never had a problem with mine in the 5 years or so I've had it - it was second hand when I got it, and it's had pretty heavy use and lots of travelling since then... For your footswitching requirement you could consider this (tho I don't know at what price. High, I imagine) ; http://www.markbass.it/products.php?lingua...=6&vedi=117
Thanks guys, some really good advice there - looks like Mark Bass might have missed a trick by not making the VPF a footswitchable option?
I use a footswitch with my MB LMK - that way I can have the VPF on one channel and a clean signal on t'other. Bingo.

Fender 2009 US Standard JAZZ in 3c Sburst/Tshell/Rwood
alhbass replied to alhbass's topic in Basses For Sale
Sunday evening Bump - just to say this instrument is still available. I haven't been promoting the sale very pro-actively due to my continuing difficulties getting online regularly, and because I don't really want to part with it. But I've just seen a cab for sale that I've been looking for for ages, so it'll have to go so I can afford it. This is a great US Jazz in great condition, and with a verifiable pedigree on BC having been previously owned by a couple of established members. Let me know if you're interested. Cheers. -

If you've contacted me regarding this sale, please forgive me if I'm slow in replying - I am still looking to sell, but I've just moved house, and therefore currently have no internet connection at home. I'll be picking up my emails and PMs as and when I can, but that's not going to be every day unfortunately. Hopefully the situation will be resloved soon, but the last time I moved (about 4 years ago) it took literally months for Orange to get their sh*t together - I'm hoping for a better experience with O2 - we'll see! Thanks for your interest. -
