1. agreed with the above.. some engineers see the sansamp bddi as the final solution and don't give a toss about how you want your bass to sound. do not under any circumstances rely on their 'experience', as, often as not, they are more interested in pleasing the drummer, vocalist, guitarist than you. if possible, split your signal for different options, and try to be present in mix-down, otherwise you may well end up disappointed. the sansamp has 2 paths, so use them effectively (pun intended )
 2. i've had a comparable situation recently.. the engineer was also a bass player (unbelievably, considering the circumstances !!!) it's almost like the bass is last priority, although in my mind it should be first ! i will re-open and rant when i've heard the proper mix-down.
 3.
Been mucking around with the synth board today for the funk band.... this config seems to work quite well -
wow.. bring the funk ! i will look it up, but what does the uni-bass thing do ?
 4. if you can't afford a better amp, the cheapest option would be the aphex bass x-citer. it makes small amps sound bigger, by acting as a bass & treble boost / mid cut, if you tailor the frequencies correctly. new strings/boiled strings will also help.

 10.
Cool, glad you like it man. This is the most fun band I've ever been in. So much so that since moving to London in January I've still been going back up to Liverpool every weekend to play! We've got a gig coming up on Friday 30th April at the Mad Ferret in Preston since you're interested. Don't know if that's anywhere near you at all...
unfortunately not my friend, i'm in east midlands area. but if you ever play nottingham, peterborough or thereabouts, let me know.. i'll pm you with my e-mail, in case you can add me to your mailing list..
 11. i can recommend Alex's suggestion on this. i have a compact and t-midget. it's a massive sound, and very versatile. at first the midget actually seemed louder than the compact, until the compact 'broke in'. the t-midget really cuts through noisy guitars, and it packs a hell of a punch for it's diminutive size. neither of the guitarists could believe it when they first heard the two together.
 12. comp - markbass compressore. really good compressor from subtle to squash. envelope filter - 3-leaf audio - groove regulator. don't use it that often, but like the fact you can dial in as much or as little as required. distortion/overdrive - the new source audio mwbd. as above..see my thread in the effects forum. i also love the aphex bass x-citer as mentioned in a previous post, as it can work very well as a low/high boost/mid-scoop when required. it all depends on whether the bass needs to 'stand out' or just back up the other instruments.
 13.
We're a modern, alternative rock, slightly prog, with the odd toe dipped into metal kinda three piece still searching for a vocalist so the tracks are instrumental. Though I think due to the slightly progressive nature of the songs they sound fine without vocals. We were in the studio the other week to record a few tracks live. These are the rough mixes from the day (basically the songs as they were captured and boshed onto a disc, so arguably unmixed). After returning to sit in while the songs were mixed we came away with something not sounding like we wanted. So we got impatient and put the original recordings up there for people to hear while we decide what we're going to do with the tracks. Have a listen and let us know what you think. There are some things that obviously need addressing when mixing and we're aware of some of them but any opinions are welcome. You can click on the myspace link in my sig. If anyone wants the WAVs just ask or if you like what you hear and fancy having a bash at mixing get in touch
whoa ! i am loving it ! right up my street. i now have my eye on you . p.s. great name too ! i'll be looking out for any live dates, i'll be the nutter dancing at the front. sweet. no vox required.
 14.
I absolutely need this, can anyone recommend where to pick one up from in the UK?
i don't know who does the U.K. distribution. i got mine through Thomann.de , the service was excellent. it took 4 days from placing my order online. they texted me to confirm dispatch (just leave your mobile no. with your order). 15.
The largest surfaces, the entire top and bottom, are actually made from stainless steel. The sidewalls are made from high impact reinforced plastic, which was chosen so that the pedal would combine high strength without too much mass. Many artists have griped about pedal boards which cannot be lifted, so we did try to keep this in mind without compromising structural integrity. The knobs are an acknowledged weak point, and we are moving them to a new design. We will upgrade any customer who would like the updated knobs. A small drop or glue works well too. A picture of the housing without the graphics panel is attached.
nice one for the info..if i do have any trouble with the knobs i'll get in touch. great unit, keep up the good work !
 16.
I suppose you could always get it re-housed if you were going to tour it or whatever.
that would be the way forward. as bobbass4k stated, the unit itself does feel solid enough.
 17.
any chance of some soundclips? ive seen demo's on youtube but i still think there are more sounds in this box than theyare letting on. can it give a real light overdriven sound or is it more full on distortion and synthy fuzz?
sorry, i don't have the facilities to provide a decent enough quality of recording clips (yet), but, yes mild overdrive is very easily achievable with less drive and a balance of clean/effected signal.
 18.
I dont' think it's intended to be "natural"-sounding, really. It's more a competitor for stuff like the WMD Geiger Counter, Subdecay Noisebox, Prunes & Custard, etc. If all you need is a traditional fuzz then save your money and just get a Big Muff (or clone).
i agree. the fuzzes are very different from that on the bass big muff, so i'm not using it to replace my fuzz sound. it is hugely versatile though mainly due to the blend, drive and graphic controls. by using a subtle blend i can get a very good overdrive sound, or go out and out synth buzz. one of the most useful functions is that a clean/graphic boost can be saved as a preset. one of our bands songs goes straight from punk into reggae, so i managed to set the pedal up to go straight from overdrive to a fat dubby sound, without touching the amp or the eq on my bass. extremely convenient ! edit - the only criticism i can think of so far is that the plastic dials don't look paricularly robust compared to other pedals. saying that, for the amount of things this thing is useful for, it is a minor niggle... it's a swiss army knife of a pedal !!
 19.
oh and I still do ride my bike regardless http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b_DgSwMZliM
sorry GW only just caught up with this thread. fantastic headcam vid. looks like a great laugh doing that stuff. my mountain bike joy almost seems dull in comparison. glad you're still slappin !! and bongos are awesome. ..i will have soon......
 20.
My band, Kismetik, is an old school 70s type punk band. We are not in any way 'oi' or hardcore, instead we try to be melodic (as well as fast and noisy!) and we have a couple of songs that veer towards psychobilly. We are influenced by The Damned, Clash, Motorhead and ... err Ennio Morricone! Our most popular (and in my view best) song is 'Drunk at the Wake', a Morricone-inspired punk hoedown with twangy guitars and whistling (yes, whistling). You can take a listen on the Myspace link on my sig. I would recommend, for a quick listen, Drunk at the Wake, Incinerator and (for fast punk) Blackmail. Our stuff is available on a self-financed album 'Blackmail and other life skills' which is on iTunes, Amazon etc. By the way we are a trio (guitar/lead vocals; me/bass; drums/backing vocals)
i enjoyed that, particularly 'i don't need you'. ..proper punk rawk !
 21. Cheeky avatar !
