1.
Just admit it, man. You're no better than Starbucks.
When I was importing coffee from Costa Rica (and paying all due taxes on it, I might add!) and using my Italian espresso machine.... I was MUCH better than Starbucks!! Although I do have a bit of a soft spot for their caramel wafer things...
 2.
Just wondering if any of the contributors to this thread (those wondering how to avoid import tax) were outraged with Starbucks, Amazon etc. for their tax avoidance antics.
Yep. And I have no problem paying the costs/taxes for stuff imported from the States, I just like to know in advance whether I will be charged, and how much. Is that a lot to ask?
 3. Had a ticket to see then in Newcastle on sunday night but was ill.... Gutted.
 4. I will be withdrawing these if there is no interest at this price. I will find a way to get to the gig rather than sell the tickets at a massive loss. So, last chance!!
 5. Some people will go to great lengths to get an audience...
 6.
BTW your neck and body build is going along nicely
Thanks for the update Dr Frankenstein.... but how is his bass progressing?
 7.
If I send you a fiver will you rip us a copy on your CD Bhuna please?
Ah! Some top-quality punnage there my friend! Back OT... I don't really have what you might call heroes or idols; but there are quite a few bassists whose style and or tone interests me. Owning (or at least borrowing) the same type of bass that they used allows you to get some kind of feel for whether the instrument facilitated or hindered their playing. Or at least it kind of does, because every individual bass varies of course - but at least it gives you an idea of what was going on in their hands, if not in their heads! You can also explore some of their individual technique better if you have a similar instrument, knowing that the differences between the way you sound on a sixties J and the way Jaco sounded on one (for example) is down to the differences between you and he, rather than the guitar itself. Does that make sense?
 8.
You don't avoid the duty though. It goes on the value of the products, not who they were bought or sent from.
And annoyingly it seems to be completely random whether you get charged or not! How does that work? Do they only check a certain number of packages?
 9. I'm quite a big Muse fan, and I especially like the drummer. Think I'll go and listen to the Origin of Symmetry right now in fact. When I'm in the mood, I like to Pop a Dom CD in....
 10.
Need some black pup covers though - anyone got spares ?
I suspect the Bass Doc will be your man there... http://basschat.co.uk/user/4905-the-bass-doc/
 11.
Nope It's an intro thread that reads like I should already know who the geezer is. I'm not psychic.....
Fair enough. I can see where you are coming from now...
 12.
Guy who? That reads like I should already know you or something?
Are you just trolling?
 13. Excellent! Now all we need is for Geddy Lee to join up too! BTW, has the original thread been deleted? I would have been interested to see the conclusion to it...
 14. No Rush love? Will take £100. That is a saving of £15 per ticket and no fees to pay.
 15. Stick a SansAmp through one of these...? http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Bergantino,_Active_bass_speakers.html
 16. This is it's bigger brother... but gives an idea of what they can go for. 17. Only £60 for the Glasgow tickets!
 18.
Actually, if I'm not sorted with something by June, I might be knocking on your door cap-in-hand again.
Nee botha. Bring the little 'un over this time so the girls can have a play!
 19. What a great thread! I was about to mention Hannah Hannah, but to be pipped to it by the bloke what wrote it is pretty cool too! Flaunt the Imperfection is still one of my favourite albums. Some beautifully tasty (and tasteful) playing on there Gazza. Great stuff
 20. The first of May, the first of May - outdoor bumping starts today!
 21.
The vintage I've used in the past has the nicest mids and top-end of any cab I've every owned. Presumably the S15 continues that...
Seconded! And proof of the flaws in the "tens for mid-punch and fifteens for bass" argument
 22. Not sure what your definition of "light" is, but I play a Hartke LH500 through my BFB and it soulds great to my ears. It is in a rackbag, which reduced the weight. Although I have never weighed it, it is an easy one handed carry.
 23. Damn! I thought this was a Blue Oyster Cult thead too!
 24.
and John Giblin
Totally! IMO the most tasteful fretless player there is/was. He played on some great stuff with Fish (Vigil in a wilderness of mirrors album) and John Martyn (especially Grace and Danger and Glorious Fool). Other stuff too numerous to mention - but there is not a lot about him on the web... A lovely laid-back style that always sounds more simple than it actually is to play! This live version actually features Alan Thompson, who plays in a very similar style to Giblin. Not many videos of JG playing live...
