1.
or add another 8 ohm cab bringing it all down to 4 ohms....maybe a 1X15? The 1000 watts rating is at 4 ohms, not 8.
? wouldn't that be a bad idea? pumping 1000watts into a 350watt cab?
2. nice stuff lad, my kinda rock. If ye ever plan a trip over to Ireland give us a shout. http://www.myspace.com/casterojaps
3. Hi folks, I was wondering if any of ye had an opinion on the Fernandes Gravity deluxe 4? Did a search but couldn't find a thing. Funds are gonna be tight this year I reckon so the other more expensive basses I was considering are not an option. From the little bit of info I could get it seems like it is one of they're top models and is cheaper than most MIM J's. Thing is, I have never played any kind of Fernandes, and don't want to go shelling out the cash if they ain't up to scratch. There is no registered dealer in Ireland and only one in the UK so its next to impossible to get my hands on one. Any input would be appreciated. Cheers.
4. forgot to say they're only about 250 quid from thomann. steal!
5. Hey Marvin, I bring the 100 watt models up a fair bit when recommending small combos to people on here. Cant say enough about them. Nice tones, well built and seriously loud. The 100 watt 1x15's are louder than 300 watt 1x15 Ashdowns!!
6.
That's almost a perfect negative of your avatar!
Nice one lad
7. The guys are right, lots of power is useless if the speaker(s) are sh*te. Your eq settings will also have a major impact on volume. Cutting low-mids, mids and high-mids will drop you out of the mix. Boosting them will make you cut through more. I prefer to D.I. post eq and use the amp as a monitor. I dont get these people who bring an 8x10 to a pub gig? 150-200 watts through a good 2x10 cab is plenty IMO.
8. Run a comparision, checking the pots, pup height and magnet type on both.
9. Re-amping.You can play around with the sound as mush as you like before yo lay the final track.
10. A couple of years back I had to stop playing due to a work related injury that left my arms and hands pretty weak.I was sure I wouldn't be on stage again. Over time I slowly retrained my hands and got back to a fairly standard level. The music scene over here can be a little bit bitchy at times so I thought it best to keep my head down and avoid the target practice from the next generation of bassists in my town. Then in November '08 a mate asked me to fill in for one gig and I said "sure but I'll only do one gig and I'm out." Started practicing with the band and it immediately clicked. No pressure, just a jam type atmosphere. 14 odd months later and I'm still there. I still cramp up after 10 or 15 minutes and regularly switch between picks and fingers if the pain is really severe but the only other option is not to play. I'd say find some guys that you enjoy playing with and just go with whatever happens. It worked for me and I haven't looked back. Covers or originals, it doesnt make a bit of difference, as long as you can come home after a jam or gig with a smile on your face. No point in giving it up because I can guarantee you that at some stage later on you'll regret it.
11. Ibby PH-7 in clean mode. Use it as a bass boost.
12. One of the best amps I ever had was a Torque 100 watt combo. Sounded amazing to me. Not sure many would agree though.
13. The rebop is slightly wider than most Spectors from what I can remember. I think the Gary Talent sig had the smallest radius. The rebop is a great bass. Give it time. You'll love it. The only places I've seen SSD's in Ireland was Rocksteady and that little place just down the street from Music Maker. Both only stocked Legend Classics. Played a Performer series yesterday and was well impressed.
14. If you are using a pick make sure you use wrist. I see a lot of guys strumming these days. Fingerstyle is the way to go on this one. Makes it fairly handy.
15. One for the Irish metalheads to pop in to tomorrow. Baker Place, Tait Square. 12pm-2.30am. Free in. Headline acts: Five will die, Mourning Beloveth and The Wounded Kings. Epic session!!!

Debut Album

Hi all. We're about to release our first full length. Theres 3 tracks up on the myspace player. Any feedback would be great. http://www.myspace.com/casterojaps
17. Glockenklang Heart-Rock. If you're gonna spend money its the way to go. I run passive all the time and it makes no difference IMO. Eq is your friend. If I was you the first thing I would buy is a Mxr M180. The Ashdowns are pretty good for metal with a bit of tweaking.
18. Stay away from the GK if you dont want a metallic tone. The markbass would be the better option. Have you thought about trying the Warwick Profet 5.2? 500watts @ 4ohm. About €450 so maybe £400ish in the Uk. Very versitle head.
19.
Ah, you see I've had great service from them...might it be the English accent and they think I must be rich? If they only knew the truth.....!
It had to happen to someone!! Best service in Dublin has always been Musician Inc. Now called X-Music, but theres no city centre outlet anymore.
20.
We've decided to remove the off topic forum from Basschat. Basically the reason is because it doesn't really get used for discussing anything constructive and the ranting and swearing and sexism is just dragging down the happy clappy atmosphere we'll now be insisting on from this point. There are some members who only seem to be on the forum for off topic as well. So its just better if we get rid of it and get people back to talking about bass. We'll be deleting the group at midday today so if you want to save anything please do it before then.
Hang on, is this an April fools thing???????
21. seems like a bad move to me. how long has it been on the cards?
22.
Have you got the TAB for that?
It doesn't exist. Bass in pub trad is like bass in free jazz. Just go for it!!
23.
This is where I fundamentally disagree with a lot of people. f*** the punters. When I play I'm doing so purely for my own entertainment and enjoyment. If people like what I'm doing then that's brilliant, but if they don't then I honestly don't care so long as I'm happy with what I'm doing, even if it means nobody but me & a few other people ever hear the music.
Unless, as Delberthot was implying, its a function band. Once money comes into the equation and it becomes a job morals can take the back seat.
24. Our band usually gets slated by the press in Ireland. The states and uk are usually much better. I think we are the wrong type of metal for over here. That or we are sh*te??? I know some guys who packed it in over a bad review. You have to take all the bad ones and use them to improve the band. Some bad reviews are just malicious and need to be seen for what they are.
