1. Good combination of looks, playability, and sound (in that order if importance) for me.
2. Most days it will be about an hour. Sometimes it'll be maybe 3 hours, sometimes (occasionally mind!) I won't pick it up at all.
3. Right, I'm up in that general direction later today, so I'll head up to the Five Ways first, ask about their function room. Also, who voted that they thought the Grosvenor was poor and why? Obviously you don't have to post explaining, but if you don't explain what was wrong with it, there's nothing I can do about it. Or PM me if you prefer.
4.
Cheers for the PM I have voted on the above, but I know I definately can't do the weekend of 20/21st November. As far as a venue goes, would prefer it if it was a venue with plenty of parking, and no stairs to carry gear up. How about the place Shep suggested?? Sounds ideal.
Haha so not the Grosvenor then! I'll check out the Five Ways. In fact, it's only 21 minutes from me (according to google maps!) and I'm on half term, so a week of doing nothing! Might head up some time this week. And I'm thinking probably 4th-5th December? Maybe 20th November, but I can't do 21st. I'll wait a day or so to see if there are any more votes.
5.
Pictures are the best available online I'm afraid. The bass belongs to the original bassist from Weezer if anyone cares.
You know what? I posted "Just as a matter of interest, is this the guy from Weezer?" and then thought to myself, I don't even like Weezer. Then I google imaged Weezer bassist, didn't see anyone that looked like him, and thought I'm going to make myself look like a fool, so deleted it. But I was right!
6.
What's wrong with having it on the same weekend as the SE Bash? I doubt there would be anyone who'd want to come to both?
I'm planning to do both!
7. I figured the thread about the Nottingham Bass Bash has been going on so long now without any real organisation I'd try and get started. So If you're planning on coming to the Nottingham Bass Bash, if you could just answer some questions it'll help me with planning it. On question 1, I did it in weekends to save space. Feel free to post if there's certain dates you can't do. I skipped 27th-28th because that weekend is the South East Bass Bash. If you answered 2 or 3 on question 2, please post to explain your answer. Thanks! Luke. EDIT: Now booked for the 20th November at The Five Ways in Nottingham. 8. Ebony I'd say. I can't see a grain at all on there, and rosewood normally has a more noticeable grain than ebony. Its also quite dark, although in terms of colour it could be rosewood. But the lack of real grain is my reasoning for saying ebony.
9. Yeah, the Taitycaster will definitely be there I'll also probably bring my Mark Hoppus Jazz, unless anyone specifically wants me to bring my Ibanez SR500?
10. Looks like Simon1964 and myself should be coming to this!
11. I'll phone up The Grosvenor if you like? That's where we had it for the last couple of years, it was alright. What sort of dates can people do/not do? EDIT: or any other venues if you have any to suggest? I'll have a look around, too, see where might be good.
12. I love my SR500, it's a fantastic bass. You simply can't fault it, unless you like wider necks.
13. My Taitycaster all the way! Although I would miss my Ibanez, I've had that years now, and it's one of the most versatile basses I've ever played. But I'd still go for the Taitycaster I think.
14. Wizard are highly thought of by a lot of people on here, so although I've never used some I'm sure you'll be happy with them. For me it's Seymour Duncan all the way, but I'm afraid the bridge pickup will almost definitely be bigger than the neck pickup. I reckon you're going to have a job finding them the same size, it's so common for them to be different sizes I can't see why people would make same sized ones! What is it you hate about your pickups?
15. A lot of the stuff I listen to I'd define as pop punk - Bowling For Soup, Blink 182, You Me At Six. This is the exact sort of thing I know some of you are saying isn't punk. Fair enough, to be honest that doesn't bother me, I don't listen to it because it's punk (or not), i listen to it because I like the music. And I definitely would not think of myself as a punk, far from it! Define the music as what you like, doesn't make it more or less enjoyable to listen to. I also listen to a lot of Sex Pistols, The Jam, The Clash, Stranglers, Buzzcocks, Undertones, Ramones etc. which undeniably is punk.
16.
Click on the link in my last post. Spooky.
Haha weird! Mind you, off the top of my head he's about the only Double Bass player I can name to be fair! He's not using the black/chequered one in that video though, kinda defeated my point! It's been ages since I've listened to the Living End, might have to check if they're on spotify!
17.
Sweet, I tried one of those once, really nice bass, except the neck...
Serious?! I love the neck on mine! Mind you, I loved the neck on my Dad's old Mexican Precision, and thats essentially what this is.
18.
hey, it works for rockabilly... Y'know what i want to see wayne? A chequered double bass
The Living End player uses one! I think he's called Scott Owen?
19.
f*** you.
Whilst we're on the subject, I got my PS3 back today, fully repaired
20. My newly acquired Mark Hoppus!

If you don't mind buying second hand, keep an eye on the for sale forum here, too. You'll get some decent basses come up for £150.

Try the SR300, it's a brilliant bass. Don't really know how much you're willing to spend, might be out of your price range? Personally, I've never been a huge Yamaha fan, but I haven't really played many. You can't go wrong with a Squier though. I'd say go to a shop and play a load of basses within your price range, until you find one you like. And as for the Jazz Bass neck, depends what you mean by easier. It's slimmer, so if you've got small hands you might find it easier. I prefer the Precision neck if I'm honest, but again it's completely a matter of preference.
23. Ahh right, it's a capacitor! If it was black, I'd have probably guessed that from looking at it to be fair! Do you reckon it can make that huge a difference to the tone? I guess for a quid it's worth a try!
24. Personally, I think these should be called the "Jazzmaster Bass" rather than the "Jaguar Bass". One of my biggest problems is that this is actually nothing like the Fender Jaguar, except for the body shape. IMO they should have given it active electronics and 2 jazz pickups (although I'd understand them leaving some of the extra switches out - maybe just switches for your pickup selection?). OR they should've given it a one piece pickguard and called it the Squier Jazzmaster Bass. After all, that's what the Jazzmaster was to the Jaguar isn't it? A simpler younger brother? Same shape, but less controls and stuff. I know I'm being pedantic, but to me the "Squier Jaguar Bass" isn't a Jaguar bass at all, when you compare it with a Jaguar bass, they're actually nothing alike.
25. I'm loving it. Very cool Nice bit of wood there, you see a lot of the VMJs with practically no grain at all. What does the Sprague orange drop do though? And what IS it?
