I press the little preset changer button with my toe to change presets between songs all the time, works fine - not ideal, but it’s not a problem really

Location would be useful! 😀

I’ve seen some lovely Pau Ferro boards - like the one on the ACG build on the first page of the thread, on some of the MIM Fenders (among others) it can look & feel a bit dry, I got some of the Montypresso relic wax which darkens the wood as well as conditioning it and it came up lovely for me, if you don’t want to darken it then just get the normal one. As for how it plays, I thought it was a bit snappier than rosewood if pushed for a difference but nowhere near the difference between something like maple and rosewood (and even then the differences are overstated a bit IMHO)

Just depends what you’re doing with it. If I’m doing a dep gig and there’s stuff like Thriller/Another Part of Me by Michael Jackson or I just can’t get enough by Depeche Mode (these are examples that I’ve used this pedal for in the last month) but you’re just hired as a bass dep, then nobody will expect (or want!) you to turn up with a key synth unless specifically asked for, but it’ll almost certainly be better received if you can play the bass part sounding more authentic with this. If you’re in your own band and have the time and willingness to do all that then I don’t think anyone would argue that an actual bass synth like a Novation or something would sound better, but where its not practical or where you need to just play bass I think this is excellent, but you have to ask if it’s really necessary to carry/setup more equipment when you could get 80-90% of the way there with a pedal, and just use your bass. For me if I turned up at a Dep gig (or even a regular gig) with a keys synth to play a few synthy parts I imagine I’d just be told not to bother, and told nicely to stick to bass 😁

Just done a bass + cash deal with Dave for his Dingwall - great guy to deal with, and super understanding when there was a delivery issue (DPD’s fault!). Would be happy to deal with him again anytime and recommend him highly to any other bass chatter looking at doing a deal with him - he’s a top man who can be trusted 100%

Sorry - even owners of the full fat TONEX have to buy the bass pack separately for €99.99 if they want it. I wasn’t implying that owners of the Tonex have to buy the bass pack or their unit self destructs. Crikey 🥸🙃

Even owners of the full fat TONEX have to buy the bass pack separately for €99.99 - it’s not a free update for anyone I don’t think

Exactly. With regards the Tonex, I’ve said for ages I rate it highly - I sold mine and tbh regretted it. I’m likely going to buy the small Tonex One pedal with this bass pack pre loaded on it — £179 in Andertons and you can use some pretty cheap midi pedals to get more functionality from it that you do the big Tonex (like so) 👇 I’ve got the Stomp which has acceptable amp/cab sims, I’ve got a great analogue preamp which I only really bought so I could run it into my amps fx loop on gigs with backline but use for everything currently, however the Tonex amps are streets ahead of either really if you’re going direct or recording (Just IMO ofc)

The reverse P sounds so much better in a PJ setup too - plus it’s Nordstrand pups! I struggle with the string spacing on these, which is a shame cos they’re blinding basses especially for the money! It’s still possibly tempting tho Just a question - in passive mode is there a tone control (like traditional passive tone control on a fender etc) I know some Ibanez’s the treble works as the tone in passive.
-
IMO the Sire P5 is a better quality bass, it’s less versatile as it just has the one pickup and you’ll not go far wrong with either, but a second hand BB434 is what I’d be looking for if you want a Yamaha, the Sire P5 is really good tho - the Sire P5R is outstanding

I’m back in the club again - got this BBP35 with Nordstrand pups last week, plays beautifully and has a great PBass sound on the front pup. I can see what all the fuss is about with these now I’ve got it in my hands, an amazingly comfy neck and the quality is ridiculously good all the way through. My main bass is still an active J but this is a fantastic alternative when the P Bass is needed, gonna stick some TI flats on it once I’ve got a spare £80 😖
