Check out the first Mars Volta album; Fender P through an Ampeg and still sounds like Flea.

We used to throw this out there as a cover for our originals set but eventually replaced it with Saturday Superhouse by Biffy Clyro and that went down better... I think.

I recommend the cab that sounds best with the head when you hear it with your own ears. Oh wait...

Happened only twice in my bass playing career that I [i]had[/i] to let another bass player use my rig. First time was because we turned up at the venue and I was told the other band would be using our stuff (without being informed beforehand). Last time we gigged there. Second time was because I knew the support band's bass player and he knew how to use gear correctly... until the venue told us a band was going on before them who we were not told about anyway. Can't remember what micro head I had at the time but the bass player for this unannounced band rested his bass on top of my little head and went off for a fag!! Had some very prompt words with him straight away. Never heard/saw that band again. Venue shut down 18 months later. I'm okay with other bassists using my rig if I know them and know they take care of stuff. I hate other bands/venues just coming over to you before the gig and going "Ahhh my amp is broken and it's in the shop getting fixed so I can I borrow your amp?". 1. Why are you playing the gig if you have no amp. 2. Why didn't you hire an amp out? 3. Why wasn't anyone else informed about you needing my amp for this gig? I've had to be a bastard quite recently for a few of these things... the main problem is I don't think they realise that this gear is expensive. That's why nowadays I have my trusty DI box has a backup and say, get the sound guy to turn the bass up in the monitors.

Precision w/ flats > Ampeg B15. Zzz... Use a decent engineer or just learn to do it yourself.

Short, snappy, easy to say, promotes imagery/thought.

The key word here is 'Popular'. Popular music might be dead but music most definitely is not. For someone to say music is not considered an art form or expression anymore well... Simple solution - don't listen to [b]rock[/b] music.

I have a DHA VT1 and would say it sounds nothing like an Ampeg... Very good for bringing in that valve character and warmth, but more of an old skool sound. Mike Dirnt's sound is definitely acheivable with this pedal. EDIT: Should mention mine is the DI/EQ version, not the Bass Drive.

Make sure you try a graphite neck before you give into GAS. They're not for everyone - I used to love 'em but just prefer an old fashioned bit of wood now.

Chili Peppers - By The Way. The album (and song) that got me into bass playing. Still a big influence on how I play. Jane's Addiction - Nothing's Shocking. Someone told me once after one of my very first gigs that I played like Eric Avery from Jane's. Told the guy I never heard of him and them! Got the album the week after and became a fan.

I don't understand the obession either - having a bass control fixes any problems with low end loss when engaged. The other thing with a blend is that the effect usually has to be way up before it becomes audible... EDIT: Especially in a band mix!
