  2. I had the red one as a back up to my EBMM and it played well and sounded similar too The new Sterling versions are not that great I hear in comparison?
  3. Can you still buy them ? Matt dark red if I recall with a aluminium pickguard?
  4. I play mostly rock in my band so not sure fretless would fit for me
  5. Thank you RB that’s really kind of you I do plan to hit the local PMT in a few weeks to try out a few variants and maybe a Jazz too I’m in Suffolk so probably not local to each other
  6. Incidentally I noticed your input setting is very low ??
  7. Loving the Yamaha bass Mixing cabs can be hit and miss but I guess if you match the power handling of each cab you will be ok Congratulations on the RM500 they are a great amp

  9. Never played a Jazz so not sure I would like the slimmer neck compared to the PBass which seems about right Im not so keen on the Jazz body shape either and prefer the traditional PBass body shape
  10. I had briefly a G & L L2000 Tribute but the neck was too chunky and it had a fault on the active tone controls .. if I recall when you turned the bass tone the volume went off !! Wiring was faulty I guess.. I sent it back and got my Pbass
  11. Lol .. surely thats outlawed saying that on Basschat !!! You are right I don’t need one but I would like one ( perhaps )
  12. Hey folks I have just the one bass, Fender Player Series PBass and it’s very good too. As getting to stores is / has been difficult and some locally have limited stock .. my question is for my second bass should I get a PBass with a different neck say maple ? Or get something very different? Trying to stay with a close match in neck / nut width and a budget of £700 or less ideally new It would be mostly a back up bass as I’m delighted with the lovely tone I get from my current new PBass and I’m happy to set them up so it does really play nicely Prior to this some years back I had an EBMM Stingray 4 USA model and I thought it couldn’t be beaten ! I think I actually prefer the PBass !

I’m pleased my posted error and ? has proven to be so popular!! Thank goodness I didn’t post a !
  14. I too have the ABM210H Pro Neo cabs Very compact and light cabs
  15. So would you see a benefit live or is it really a studio thing ? I can see the open string advantage but have not considered it to be an issue live and not using one
  16. Why and when do you use a bass mute ? The kind that sits just in front of the nut I have one but I’m not sure why it would be an advantage to use it ?
  17. I think the idea of adjusting while seated comes from playing the guitar I don’t think it works for a bassist
  18. I think body shape ( human not instrument) also plays a part to the ideal position
  19. Seems like many of us have them slung in a very similar height Let’s face it low is cool and more rock & roll whereas high is slapper territory I think ! Long live rock & roll
  20. Low slung or high up ? How do you have your bass with your strap I do prefer low around waist level I think I’m a tall guy with long arms and find this the most comfortable playing standing / live What about you guys ?
  21. I’ve done this before several times deciding that’s it no more bands Last year I sold off all my guitar gigging gear and then decided one last go at a decent local band but returning to bass. Ive enjoyed my new found excitement of getting a band ready and getting nice gig worthy gear ... it’s my hobby and I would miss everything about bands and live music if I stopped completely and I’m 60 now and been in bands on and off for 40yrs either as a bassist or guitarist and the gear I’ve had from nearly every make would make your eyes water Keep your gear and look or advertise for a new band 👍 As you know I’m near to Norfolk and there are opportunities if you make them happen 😉
  22. I think the compressor works very well ABM also has a warm tone when using a small amount of valve drive
  23. Great news, they are a great bunch at Ashdown
  24. Good result 👍
  25. My input level stays the same for quiet or loud volumes I only use the output volume for final sound level changes ie practice or gigs and this will vary on size of gig and room conditions etc. I’m now preferring running my amp close to flat in terms of EQ which will make it easier to adjust for the venue as required. It doesn’t sound as good playing on your own but with a band it works Also I always have my bass guitar volume on max and tone control wide open ( PBass )
