Either way AC played Ashdown gear and that’s good enough for me !!
If he sounds good on stage ( what he experiences ) as already stated then he will be happy regardless of front of house PA etc etc
Thats probably the same for all of use chasing that perfect tone / sound we believe to be right
Incidentally I tried at rehearsal last time the Sub Harmonic on at 7:30 ish on my ABM600 and you couldn’t really tell it was on or off !!
Maybe that’s the point it’s slight but it’s there and he and his techs knew it too.
I guess we will never know but as this was the original point of the posting I thought I would bring it back to that point
Ok tried it and compressor first is definitely a better sound for me
In fact I like the compressor so much I may ditch the Spark Booster and just use the amp drive
I’m after a consistent level to the amp.
I’ve tried it both ways and I think I prefer compressor first then Spark Booster.
The compressor is an always on and the plan is Spark Booster for occasion drive / grind for certain songs
😉😂
This is probably true ( to some degree ) but it’s like stating it’s not important to a band sound what gear is used on stage/ or studio at all .., I think you may be on your own with that belief … each to their own hey 😉😂
Not sure I would entirely agree with that as everyone has a sound / tone and the band tech etc wouldn’t let them play through any old amp as if it wasn’t important to the band sound.
Also I think Ashdown do not give artists gear for free and this has been mentioned recently when FF were invoiced for their gear.
I guess we will never know for sure but it’s interesting to think that just maybe those suggested settings were true at some point. Either way I’m happy to believe it’s possible !!
Been reading about U2 bassist Adam Clayton and his setup using at some point Ashdown ABM amps
I understand he was running the Sub Harmonic on all the time set low 7:30 ( o’clock ) and drive on set 12:30 - 1 o’clock
Might just try this next practice
Revisiting this thread as I’m also an Ashdown ABM600 user and started using compression
However I don’t like the onboard amp compressor as it drops the volume slightly and felt it smothered the tone
Im now trying the Ampeg Opto Compressor front of amp and I’m liking the result
Now I see what a good compressor can do in front of an amp instead of using the amp built in comp.
Very pleased with the way it tames the low bass peaks and evens things out and adds a warmth to the tone
Just added this to my rig in front of my ABM600
Curious to what settings people are using for a slight overdrive tone ?
I tried mine like this in “ Clean” switch position
Also trying not to push the amp input too much hence Level control is down giving nearly unity volume on or off
Finger style player who went over to using a pick for a few months
Fingers give me the sound as fuller with more depth to each note but I’m still liking using a pick for a lot of songs for the fast attack and punch clarity
