I’m gonna stick with putting my money into UK music shops as far as I can.
-
I know, it was funny and I won’t admit to them that it actually did help me!
-
I know that’s popular but not for me. Don’t think it would work on this very bright blue anyway.

I asked on my local bass group if anyone could photoshop black hardware onto it and some joker did this for me. 😂😂😂

So I sold my Musicman USA Sterling and went on the hunt for another bass. My nearest shop is now RichTone in Sheffield (great guys there) and they had loads of 2nd hand basses (£1300 Shuker anyone?) which I had a good go with. I was interested in a Sonic Squire P and they got one out of a box for me. How is this only £170? Compared to my Fender P (player model) it’s very good quality (better in some respects.) and sounds amazing. The colour is wonderful - I love surf type colours. I was interested as it has a Jazz neck on it - I assume so new players have an easier time with their first bass - and it feels great, nice and thin in all directions and is a lovely Matt finish. I don’t like roasted necks and this one is lovely and light coloured and matches the blue really well. Tuners and bridge are just as good as my fender, fit and finish is about the same tbh. Might need the odd tickle here and there but it is very playable out of the box no fret buzz and set up well (for me anyway). The controls feel really nice and it has a good range of tone. Only negative is that the scratch plate is poor quality. Single ply and very plasticky and not well finished compared to my Fender but that’s a cheap change and not really essential to how it plays and sounds of course. Plans are to change the hardware to black so I’ve ordered a Hipshot black bridge and string tree, just deciding which tuners and knobs to order. Not sure whether to go for a 3 ply black or silver metal pick guard or maybe a carbon fibre look one like a Dingwall. Will get some more pics later if anyone is interested. I will update as I add more bits to it.

Ok so I got my first date for playing on the worship team! We support another smaller local church with a worship band once a month to let their small team take a break and I’ve been rotad on to serve there end of next month. Absolutely bricking it to be honest!!! I think I’ll get the songs a week or two in advance so it’s gonna be some intense practice before the day in question!

A friend of mine is a manager or something for the sound installation for that! I’m not there though.

2007 USA MusicMan Sterling in black/maple - *SOLD*

Ooops sorry forgot. 4.32kg or 9.5lbs, just weighed on luggage scale. My P bass is lighter but doesn’t feel it. No neck dive (on me) as weight is in body with all the active stuff so it feels really nice. I’ve worn it for 2hours no problem but I appreciate it might be an issue for some! From a quick google it seems that the weights can be all over the place and mine is somewhere in the middle for this model. And probably a bit lighter than a lot of Stingrays? -

2007 USA MusicMan Sterling in black/maple Reluctant sale of this lovely USA made bass, If you don’t know this is the jazz bass to the Stingray with a lovely narrow neck of 38.1mm at the nut and different pickups/electronics 3 way pickup selector which makes subtle but all usable changes in tone. The neck is unfinished oiled maple and oh so smooth to the hand with a sculpted heel to get to those high notes. Perfect combo of black body and pick guard and maple neck/head IMHO. Condition wise it’s very good, see the photos. The neck is amazing with maybe one slight mark which I couldn’t photograph and only saw when I was inspecting it for sale. I have polished the body to make it look its best, there’s a couple of very fine scratches on the back and some evidence of small paint touch ups on the edges but overall very good for an 18yo bass which was used a fair bit before I got it from the original owner. - as it’s black it tends to show marks easily but I reckon you’d be very pleased with it - it is 18 years old. All the hardware is great and untarnished and all works as it should as I checked everything when I bought it. Frets have been polished and it stays in tune beautifully. It has always been stored in its original MM hard case in my possession, the case has marks and scratches as pictured but it’s done its job and it a great case with its original key. (Case is very expensive to replace as it’s designed for the Sterling). Has a medium action which I can change for you if you buy it. Comes with the EB cloth, spare white tort pick guard (which isn’t a MM item but it’s very good) and black Schaller strap locks (I will include the strap bits of this as well and a strap if you want one). I have the original strap buttons which I will include and I can put back on if you want before sale. I won’t post this at all but I am prepared to travel a long way from Huddersfield to deliver it or meet halfway. I’ve been to London before to pick an eBay purchase up I don’t mind! It has the advantage of peace of mind that it’s got to you ok and I know you’ll be happy with it. Obviously cash or immediate bank transfer only. Open to offers but no swaps sorry. My first big sale on here but I’ve huge feedback on eBay as a seller and on Retrobike website which I can share if you want the info. Any questions let me know!

Suggestions for an inexpensive P Bass with a Jazz neck
Minininjarob replied to Minininjarob's topic in Bass Guitars
I’ve just checked the specs and it has a 1.5” neck so that’s Jazz size yeah?? I’m thinking a blue one and swapping the hardware to all black, new electrics and a nice pickup set (if the standard ones I don’t like) and that’ll be amazing. For maybe £250 all in minus new pickups. That’ll look amazing. Need to go and check one out ASAP. -

Thanks that’s really helpful. I have a Player model, but I have a Musicman Sterling USA which has an amazing neck and I’d like to have the same on a P without messing with mine. -
Suggestions for an inexpensive P Bass with a Jazz neck

Whats the neck like? -
Love my p bass. It’s perfect for a lot of songs I do but I wouldn’t mind keeping it downtuned and having another bass for more delicate tunes where I need to move around the fretboard more with my tiny hands. So are there any cheaper basses that have this, or is as simple as buying a P bass and a jazz neck and swapping them around? Are the necks mostly compatible with each other? Wouid prefer a Fender or Squire but open to thoughts about anything else. Budget is maybe around £500 but may mod it for a bit more after the initial purchase.

As someone who is relatively new to bass I have learnt that “building the sound” is nearly ALL about how you play, yes there are some instruments that sound a bit different and some pedals and amps can change the sound but the magic in in your fingers (or pick!). After 3 years of learning I’m in a band and play a lot of different styles of music. I’ve found on most occasions changing the way I play makes the key difference( rather than changing an amp setting or buying a new pedal. I play every way on my P-bass, from very soft, gentle and slow finger style (for ballads or when I play in my church) to absolutely beating the shit out of the strings with a pick (main band playing Skatepunk and metal songs). This discovery has made me realise that if you play the same way for every song and try to get the sound you want downstream with thousands of pounds of amps and pedals you’ll never get the sound you are after cos there’s always another product you can find online that will supposedly do a better job. Also you can spend months getting the perfect tone in your bedroom and it will probably sound like shit on a live stage, or at least not serve the band/music as it should do. After 3 years of playing I’ve settled on my set up of a fairly simple amp and cab setup (which is normally set quite flat on the eq), my P bass, a decent well set up compressor to even out my janky playing, a tuner and a fuzz and chorus pedals. That setup covers so much sonic ground it’s crazy. Good luck in your journey, and just enjoy the learning the music you love and playing with other people

Interesting video here, nice use of some driving P bass tones maybe through a pedal or whatever (let me know if you know what they are!)
-
I genuinely never noticed any change when they swapped it!
-
Looks like a good setup there but I’m surprised you have a traditional piano still - we sold ours and got an electric one in a ‘fake’ piano case as the acoustic one was so expensive to keep in tune.

Well the PMT I went into on Monday had a massive selection of guitars and amps and pedals, more than most other shops. Drum kits. Lots of keyboards/synths and basses too. Also a good range of PA and mixing stuff too. Never seen any Dj stuff in there.

I was at PMT Leeds on Monday and apart from a lack of bass strings to choose from everything looked normal in fact they had been having a move round of the store. Very odd.
