Damn that’s cool. Love the mods over the years, the repainting just adds to the vibe for me. I’d rather have a well used and loved bass like this than any ultra expensive mint vintage bass I wouldn’t dare touch, or even a modern custom shop. The neck look gorgeous! I’d put a cream or black pick guard on it and hopefully entertain many more people as I know you must have done.

What would people recommend for a wireless from bass to pedalboard? I want to put the wireless on my strap with a pouch not dangling down like a clagnut. -

Although I’m not a fan of the colour combo the roadworn marks look really really good.

The Accidental Birth: How The Fender Antigua Was Born

Same. It’s truly horrendous. My friends know really dislike bare wood finishes but I’d have the most crazy figured wood style over Antigua any day. I’ve tried to be charitable about it but it just looks like congealed fat that’s got mould round the edges. Or an ashtray that’s been spat in. Or the look of someone’s skin after they’ve gotten severe frostbite and their fingers are going black. It’s that visceral for me!! -
The original g3 I played was sooo nice. Weird as it was smooth and powerful but had a presence to it that I’d not heard before.

Not everyone has a glass back - with a 10lb bass I only get a little tired after about 2hrs with it on me standing up. This will be fine. 😊
-
Yeah I think it’s pretty good. I would be torn between the black one which looks nice and the one which looks like Mikes original one in bare wood. They’ve moved the strap pin to a better place and it’s got a nice bridge AND a PROPER hard case too, which some £3k basses don’t come with. The pick guard - you could get one made which is longer past the jack socket to mirror the shape of the body like the original. Not ideal to have to spend more money but it’s an option. Doesn’t bother me really.

Update to my board. Took the plunge and bought an Origin Effect BassRig Super Vintage to replace my Ampeg pre amp. I do play in church that uses DI straight into the desk so I had to get this (obviously 😬). I also bought a Presonus Quantum 4 so I could set up the BassRig as the DI out has a cab sim. it sounds AMAZING. Really happy with it. But it’s a CHONKY beast - didn’t realise how big they were!! -
Ampeg Classic Analog Preamp, only selling as I got an OE bass rig recently. Great simple pedal to get that Ampeg vibe. Couple of very tiny marks, neatly applied velcro on back. No box sorry but will be packaged very well. £100 new, so £50 posted or £45 collected Open to reasonable offers. If you want any more pics just DM me. Thanks- Rob.

So our hearing will survive into the new year at least. Small mercies I suppose. 😬

I would be interested in the cab if you didn’t want it. Depends on price of course!

That looks really good and should sound thunderous with the amp. If the board inside has flexed when the jack socket was loose the tracks might have become cracked so check it over when you next disassemble it to make sure it’s all ok. I used a jack to speakon cable for my 400 to my modern gk cab, had it made for me in the correct length. Wish my 400 had a speakon output as it’s more secure but it seems to be working well as is anyway.

Disappointing new bass day...I would appreciate some opinions.

I think I could fix one if I got the chance, I do have a background in electronics and I’d love to have a go and bringing one back from the dead so let me know if you ever find one.

Looks great! And you’re never getting your Mk3 one back, sorry, I love it too much!! On the plus side a few people have tried my amp out at gigs and they love it, so at least it’s being used to spread the GK joy around. I use mine with a modern GK CX210 and it sounds glorious. I used to wonder why you owned so many but I am constantly on the hunt for another GK, but I’d actually want a 700rb just to have a bit more power available - not been short of it to be honest but I’d like to try one and it’s always good to have spares!!

Bit late to this, but to be honest the £180 Squire Sonic p bass I bought new recently was better quality than that. Very very poor. Name and shame if they don’t sort the issues out ASAP. -
The 400rb on its own as a head is amazing, I thought of taking the head out of a combo and making a new head and ditching the rest of the combo but I’d have to make an outer case. Also the GK sounds better the more you turn it up.

Although I’m a relative newbie to bass just a few months after starting I had a thread on here where I asked about old heads into new cabs. If the old heads sound so good why not pair them with a modern lightweight cab? Yes a valve head will be heavy still but there’s loads of solid state heads that sound amazing, sell for peanuts and have power and heft for days. And even if a solid state head is a bit heavy they are relatively small compared to a big old combo so still quite easy to move around. I now have a GK 400rb head in a rack mount case (can carry in one hand) going into a modern GK 210 cab. It sounds flipping amazing, the wattage of 230w into my cab absolutely decimates 500w (and more) class D heads and even better I can take it apart and fix it myself if needed. Not that it will be likely as it’s 25/30 years old and works like new. Everyone who hears my setup says it sounds amazing. I genuinely can’t see why you’d want a new school head - unless you don’t have a car or have physical impairments that severely limit your lifting ability - when it can be this good with older stuff.
