  1. I’d really love that head but it’s too much money for me to be honest.
  2. They are meant to be entertaining videos to get you excited about songs, not detailed analysis of production methods. I’m sure there are other people who go into greater depth, which I sure he could do but that’s not his aim.
  3. He’s really good at picking out not just musicality but production as well. There’s some songs he’s looked at which I have had new appreciation for.
  4. Of course they shouldn’t charge more in person as a shop and staff don’t cost any money at all. /sarcasm Have a chat with them, that’s the best policy. They may explain why it’s different, they might realise it’s a mistake either way and correct it and they might sell it to you at the online price. I’ve done this with a few shops and speaking nicely to an actual human often makes the situation resolve itself.
  5. I carry around a pick for this reason. I’ve only been playing a year and I’ve yet to meet anyone else who plays with a pick. I am learning to play with fingers but only as I might play at church one day. I have zero interest in learning how to slap, in reality it isn’t that useful for most songs/music styles and the type of music it does fit into I don’t really like. I went into a music shop to try a bass last week and immediately scooped out the mids and tried a Less Than Jake song, I don’t think people do that often!
  6. This is a weird one and not an injury but more of a body shape issue. I started playing bass a year ago and struggled with the position of the instrument (p-bass). I was watching the videos online and saw how people played and I just couldn’t do it. Playing between the bridge and the pickup, resting their arm on the chamfer at the back of the body. I tried it and I just found it awkward like I was reaching behind me. If I did move the instrument then I couldn’t reach all the frets. I always knew I had short arms - not a disability- but this is the first time it had affected something I want to do. I’ve basically just accepted that I’m gonna be playing in front of the pickup most of the time in order to reach the lowest frets. it might look a bit funny as I have the bass quite far to the right in front of me. My feeling is that some of the best ever musicians overcame some interesting body issues and I just need to adapt and basically just forget about it as long as I’m comfy and it sounds ok. I don’t want to play anything other than a p-bass and certainly not a shorter scale instrument so I just gotta keep practising with my T-Rex arms and enjoy it. 😂
  7. Couldn’t be better said. Love the 3 different versions of the same song problem!!
  8. Remember if it’s a private sale they have no right to get a refund. There is no way I’d refund someone who had bought something from me in good faith, tested working fine moments before they paid. If the seller offers anything it’s out of good will only.
  9. Yeah but a genuine late 70s CS80 is one of the most famous synths, to have one working well (they are not indestructible and they need a real specialist who are rare to fix one) is akin to one of the rarest basses so I don’t think they are overpriced. They were very very expensive new and are a monster of a piece of kit (100kg ish).
  10. I’m looking to get my first head/cab setup and I’ve figured out some stuff but want to get some thoughts from the more experienced on here. Modern small lightweight heads are expensive. I really want a GK head but they are £££££. Old school heads (not valve) are much cheaper and everyone keeps saying “x was amazing wish I still had it.” Even if they are a bit heavy they aren’t massive so I won’t have an issue moving them around. Now while I don’t have a back problem (worked in building trade for a long time) I would prefer a modern lightweight cab rather than some of the older boat anchors. So I’m thinking some sort of 400-500w solid state head on a 2x10 modern cab (or 2x 2x10). Seems to me an ideal balance between cost and performance. Anyone do this, any pitfalls or issues? One of the advantages of an older head is that I can probably fix it myself if something goes wrong as I do know electronics but the modern tiny electronics in my GK 112 combo are beyond me!!
  11. Nice! Blue basses are officially better and their owners 134% cooler than other bass players. I don’t make the rules!
  12. Pickups might be adjusted incorrectly - a possibility. If you can find anyone with a bass amp to plug it into you can test that theory - any music shops nearby? i would second letting us know where you are I am sure someone local would be able to help you.
  13. I’m a novice player and I really liked it, the EQ seemed useful and the other adjustments seemed to be able to make the sound into whatever you needed. Very nicely made. I have a small combo at the moment and want to get a proper rig and this seems like a good option but they do seem to go for a decent price. Kinda thinking of running one into a modern lightweight 2x10 cab for a start but it depends what I can afford!! (very little at the moment!)
  14. Damn I’m in Huddersfield - don’t tempt me! It’s way more than I need tbh.
  15. I played in a rehearsal room last week and it had a 450w version of that amp running into a 4x10 and a 1x15, holy crap it was brutally powerful, couldn’t turn it up more than 1 out of 10 and it sounded fantastic. I’m now looking for one second hand!
  16. im not normally a fan of covers from that sort of era but I’d come and watch you - love it when people make the effort to play some music which isn’t the usual lazy dj mix.
  17. That’s exactly what I’d be playing! Sounds like it would be a great upgrade for me, thanks. Maybe if the buyer of the bass would prefer the original pickups you might sell the SDs? If not thanks for the advice anyway, really appreciate it.
  18. I spent 12 years working in retail when cash was about 60% of our takings. I worked in big places that took tens of thousands a day. In that whole time I came across 2 counterfeit notes, one of which we rejected as payment and 1 which we found cashing up. Honestly, counterfeit money isn’t as common as you think, and if it feels and looks real it probably will be. If you are still unsure insist on paying it into the bank before handing goods over, once the cashier has accepted it then it’ll never come back to you even in the unlikely event of it being dodgy.
  19. Sorry to hijack this thread (bass is gorgeous BTW I have a similar one!) - but how did you find the SD pickups changed the sound? I was thinking of a similar upgrade.
  20. I could fix this and know a young lad who could really benefit from it but you are just too far away!!!
  21. If someone says to me they have a problem with their PayPal account I halt the sale and block them. There is no reason to have a “problem” that isn’t self made and all genuine issues can be sorted in minutes as PayPal are very helpful. Been using PayPal for over a decade I think for personal and commercial reasons and if you follow their guides you will never go wrong. PayPal goods and services and I pay the fees for any private sales I do without having the item in my hands.
  22. I’d be interested in this if the price was a little lower - I would be taking a chance it actually can be fixed.
