I just looked that up - and now I remember watching it years ago! I’d forgotten about it. Yeah they did NOT come across well in that. Unfortunately these things stick for years.

I read on here some folk talking fondly about having Peavey basses in the past but I rarely see new ones for sale or even discussed. A friend came round my house at the weekend with a new £300 Peavey PJ bass and while it wasn’t my thing in the way it looked it sounded really good to me and the setup from factory was excellent. Must admit to not knowing anything about the brand to be honest.

How do you find the MB200 volume wise? I think it’s the same amp that’s in my GK mb112 combo and I’ve been surprised by it tbh.

Friend of mine has a flight cased one of those with the matching 2001rb amp it’s terrifying. 😂

How on earth he plays all that and jumps around and sings is just beyond me.

My favourite bassist, and when I started playing a couple of years ago I had to learn Look What Happended but as a beginner it seemed completely impossible. I can now play it pretty well, but it’s taken me 18 months to learn it. Rest of his stuff, well, I may just have to watch instead!! (I am so much of a fan I bought an EB MM Sterling just like his)

I tried a lower action to make it easier for my left hand but I found I had to play softer to avoid crazy fret buzz so raised it again. When you want to slam that open E with a pick at just the right moment in a song the buzz just took away, errr, the buzz…..

Plenty of YouTube videos reviewing these suggest that most of them, with a little bit of setup, are actually decent instruments capable of more than you would believe.

This 100%. I am currently trying to learn as much as I can from a close friend who is a pro live sound engineer (5000+ audiences he also is an event producer sometimes too) and owns a backline business too. A friend of mine who plays lead in our band came with me to his industrial unit to learn how to set up our amps and he gave us such good info on how to set up individually and how to integrate with each other. Basically it matters not much on how you sound individually but how your sound integrates with other band members. He told us loads of examples where he gets overlapping frequencies being played and in order to get an overall good mix he has sometimes just had to turn some stuff down so it’s inaudible eg a synth being played with a lot of left hand plus a bass and a piano left hand. He also said never turn anything down, as he can cut stuff but as others have said you can’t make sounds from nothing. He said bassists are sometimes the worst as they cut all the treble and some high mids out and all he gets is a muddy mess of a sound. Basically if your engineer is good then ask what they want and give it to them, and make sure your band plays in a way that leaves space for each other.

As someone who is about to play their first ever gig this is gold. Would the same be true in an outside setting? I’m guessing not. Inside would it always be useful to back off my bass on the eq a touch to ensure I get a good sound?

The video is clearly aimed at beginner to intermediate players. I have considered getting a QP but I won’t now cos I know it doesn’t make much difference. I’ve never heard of the pickups you mention and certainly don’t have the money to swap mine out just in case it might be better.

I think videos like this are really useful for me. I’m relatively new and there’s so much info out there it’s overwhelming and you don’t know who is right. Videos like this cut out the BS and stop me buying stuff I don’t need.

No bi-amp on this one. I think the later 1001 and 2001 have bi amps, I know someone with a 2001 and that has that feature.

I learnt since you been gone - it’s not hard but I tried to play it a bit differently in our band. I played with a chorus right up the fretboard for the verses to try and get a shimmer going then went back down clean for the chorus. I can’t help thinking the chorus while easy to play in just not getting the vibe right though. The original track has so many multi tracks on it it’s crazy! At least I don’t have to sing it. 😂

CX210 picked up and at home!! How is this thing only 200w (ish can’t remember specs) into this 8ohm cab? Jeez it’s loud. @ossyrocks will hopefully appreciate the cab is wider than the amp, we don’t want that top heavy nonsense do we?

Looking at a Cx210 available locally, one of the current ones. I think I’m a serial procrastinator and I just need to buy it. I have a GK head to go with it and I like my 112 combo so what’s the worst that could happen??

Thinking of getting one to go with my 400rb but almost no one has them. Any experiences of any of them??

I spoke to a friend of mine who owns a backline business (and has a 2001rb and matching 4x10 to hire if you ever need to destroy a room with bass) about cases. All his stuff has custom solid flight cases which he needs to protect his gear from any eventuality. He said if the amp has a fan which sucks air into the case you don’t need to be too worried about getting a case to fit exactly (eg a 2u case for these 400rbs) but if it’s blowing out then if the wall of the flight case is right up to the amp case then it might overheat as it’s blowing to a brick wall basically. He said to play safe with either a 3u case or an ABS case like an SKB is ideal as there is normally a lot more space around the amp to blow out to or suck fresh air from. I got one second hand and can see there is plenty of space around the fan grille. I did check how the fan works and it does suck air into the case onto the power amp heat sink so any case should be ok as long as both back and front are removed during use but I’m glad I went with an SKB abs case anyway. Probanly info you may know already but I found it useful to know as a newbie!

And if anyone is interested here are the pics from inside, including a sticker for a amp repair shop so it must have been serviced at some point in Europe! I’ve shown a picture of the fuse size, I will probably get a spare just in case cos I’m paranoid.

So I have taken the cover off my Mk3 and had a look around the inside to check how it is made. Looks like it’s all discrete components and very fixable if needed, and a suitable chunky transformer. In the SKB case I have it was still looking a bit shabby from chips on the cover so I’ve taken it off again to respray it with satin black paint. I would go and get it powder coated if it was living outside a case but it will be well protected inside the rack case and I can always do that at a later date if I want to anyway.
