  1. The loudest fan I’ve ever heard is on the SWR HeadLite. … that thing seriously rocks out!
  2. The Aguilar arrived , it will be going home to be parked on an Aguilar SL112 cab , but for the time being it’s getting a good workout on top of my tiny PhilJones. And it was making that SG sound wonderful!
  3. Go for four.
  4. I have a GK MB200 , somehow the fan got gunked up and stopped working. Fried the ICE power chip. I liked the amp enough to get it repaired. Now I find the sound of a fan running oddly reassuring.
  5. I bought a Hotone Thunderbass for a giggle when one popped up on kijiji , and I use it with headphones a lot. I can also plug in a tablet and play along with things , perfect as a rehearsal tool.
  6. Go for it.
  7. A third hand might work out a little better.
  8. Between google translate and Scottish , I was thinking of this skit …
  9. Great excuse to buy another amp.
  10. There’s still the vestiges of car culture in the US.
  11. I need cabs for most of the gigs I do. Not in the PA , so my amp is the room sound. Home I always plug into an amp , I have several little practice rigs. But when it’s time to work on material I usually go into headphones through a little Hotone Thunderbass.
  12. I’ve been getting some misery from Can Post. Waiting for a little Aguilar amp from the US. It spent six days in Customs , and is now apparently on the way. So maybe mid next week…
  13. Me noodling on the Hi Flier, through a little Darkglass e500 and a Phil Jones C2 cab. Just made that preset , I was looking for a pretty straightforward tone.

    Barefaced

Of course she is. I’m really happy to see her pick up the bass , she’s a heck of a baritone sax player. She was asking about note duration and muting techniques. And right hand technique. I suspect in time she’s going to become a deadly bassist.
  15. That’s actually lighter than the other Specials I’ve seen.

    Barefaced

Yup. I suppose you can’t have everything. Where would you put it? Many players here have never heard of Barefaced so it was a surprise to see one surface. It certainly lived up to the hype. I’m sitting on too much stuff as it is , but I was beyond last night when I had a chance to hear it. I can always bite the bullet and have one shipped here , but aside from Barefaced there’s some others I’d love to try. There’s Audio Kinesis from around the Dallas area although at the moment his shop is in limbo. He has some interior baffles you can adjust … and many that have those rave about them. And they seem to be making some neat stuff in Italy these days. Thinking of GR Bass and Jad Freer. Today I’m expecting the post to bring a nice little amp. A mini Aguilar TH350.

    Barefaced

Last night I dropped over to see the cab and head my friend picked up. She got a Darkglass MicroTubes 500 v1 with the SC112. First thing I did was pick up the cab , and the weight brought a smile. And then we dialed in the amp , and I was encouraging her to spin the knobs. She was amp shy at first , but was quickly over that. Most of the amp tuning was at fairly low levels , but we did check it out at volume. … nice! I love that cab. It would be fun to do a side by side comparison to my Berg HDN112. She seemed to move to a fairly traditional old school thump. She likes her bass bassy. She was delighted to pick up a “forever cab” as her first one.
  18. I don’t rely on gig money to pay the bills , so I’m selfish now about gigs. If I anticipate any misery , I don’t do it. And it’s nice to stick to it.
  19. I was a commercial photographer , worked for years in established studios and then finally got out on my own and built up a business. Back in the film days , it all sounds wonderful but much of it was shooting grocery flyers with nasty deadlines and last second substitutions. I was paying a mortgage , and rent and still managing a lot of gigs. Late nights , early mornings. I traded one boss for many , and loved the business. Now I’m retired. Still gig , the mortgage is long paid. I don’t have debt. Here in Atlantic Canada it’s a difficult hoe being a full time musician. There’s little studio work , but there’s a thriving bar scene. Many supplement the gigs with teaching. It’s not easy. Most have a daytime gig of some kind to manage the bills. It certainly keeps everyone humble.

    Hello

Ouch I’m well into geezerdom now , but I believe in modern lightweight and much smaller amps and cabs. I pack the car , drive it downtown , set it up and play. And then drive it home after too. If I had a crew moving stuff I might reconsider , but I just play mid sized rooms downtown. No big star , just a working blue collar musician.
  21. Great review!
  22. Might have a beer when I get home after the gig. Not a drug user. I really hadn’t planned to become so moderate. Not really sure just how it happened. I’m ok with it.
