Lessons might prevent some bad habits from getting ingrained. I’ve somehow managed to retain some. Welcome! Some may well think it’s madness , but it’s not a bad way to go.

you’re missing a lot of fun

I’ve got a TH 350 on the way to use with the SL. So I’m hanging on to that. I’m tempted simply by the rarity , we never see Barefaced. And I do appreciate a nice cab. So I’ll hold back for the time being and keep an eye on this. As it didn’t immediately sell I think it might be around for a while. Most folk here have never heard of Barefaced. I’m hooked on kijiji. Over the years I’ve found quite a bit of stuff there , some great deals , and some not so great deals.

My Aguilar is just two pounds heavier than the Barefaced 112. It’s the SL112. My Ampeg is just the 210AV I picked up as a home use practice cab. Not a great cab , but ok. Bergs are the HDN series , a 112&210. I love those things. And it’s an easy drive on divided highway. Our roads are not generally too crowded. I think I’m going to hold off for a couple of hours. And see if it goes. I have a feeling it’s going to sit for a while. In the ad there’s a Darkglass Microtubes V1 sitting on the cab. Our nearest stocking dealer would be in Montreal. So whoever has this has good taste. We see lots of pedals but few Darkglass amps around here.

That’s quite a spread between the two.

They do love their SVT and 810 rigs. And they sound electric.

A 12 Super Compact appeared on our local kijiji for $1000 Cdn. It’s about an hour’s drive away in Lunenburg. I’m well cabbed , and Herself is happy to see an amp or bass arrive at the door , but draws the line at cabs. We do not see Barefaced around here often. A new Super Compact is just over $1400 Cdn , and then there’s shipping taxes and duty. And I’m divided. However I do already have Bergantino , Aguilar , Phil Jones and Ampeg cabs.

Once you’re up to snare drum levels it sounds electric.

I’m a colonial , but welcome ! This is a nice diverse group . I initially joined to learn more about amps and cabs that we rarely see over on this side of the Atlantic. There’s some wonderful stuff that unfortunately doesn’t have much of a presence here.

I found an Aguilar 350 in the States and it’s on the way. Even after dealing with the exchange , duties and shipping I came out ok. This is just for use at home , I picked up an Aguilar cab a while back and was hoping to add an amp designed for it.

How heavy is that Special?

This is 34 in , but is like a Jazz bass on steroids.

Seeing as I’m not into Fender shaped stuff these days , and having developed a preference for short scales , I often decide between these two. The Gibson Jr has a humbucker in the classic sweet spot , has two knob simplicity. It acts much like a Pbass , although it has a set neck. This little thing can roar. A vintage HiFlier. Flats. Two single coil P90 style pickups , I admit the VVT concept is more fluid than TV and a toggle switch. But this is surprisingly fast to dial in. And is much thumpier than any Jazz I’ve played. And takes an enormous seat in a mix. It’s also cool as all heck.

There’s nothing quite like a nice Rickenbacker.

Just insure that a qualified repair person is doing the work. There are a surprising number of hacks around.

I was a longtime Pbass player. They just sounded richer than a Jazz to me. And I like the simplicity of two knobs. The thing with knobs is the more you have , the more time you spend fiddling with them. But now I prefer short scales and tend to use non Fender shaped objects. I’m not quite sure just how that happened , but I’m ok with it.

Beauty of a fretboard! Pocket looks tight. Fine looking bass! And happy to hear the first impressions are good.

I’ve just bought a TH350. And am looking forward to spinning the knobs. This is just for home use. Just for me , and the long suffering Herself that puts up with my practice.

Be thankful you found it before things overheated. The fan in my little GK MB200 was gunked up and stopped working. So things overheated and I had to replace the ICE power chip. I love that little amp so it was worth investing in.

Halifax used to be an affordable place to live , but that is changing. Real Estate prices went berserk , and many found new landlords and eviction notices. I’m thankful to own our little place. However there still are areas outside of the city that are reasonable. Halifax does possess a certain charm through the summer and fall. It’s not a big city. Some do say the developers should be reined in. There is a fair nightlife , and restaurant scene.

I have a couple of them , they are just a parametric EQ with a slight gain boost , but they can really fatten up an amp at low volume. I never seemed to need that at gig levels. For some years I was using a classic GK MB150 for home practice and the NE-1 would really come alive with that bump. They are not that easy to come by these days. I don’t seem to be using them much with my current practice rigs although I put one on my pedalboard to use as a master volume.

How do we get ourselves and our rigs to rehearsals or gigs?
msb replied to kwmlondon's topic in General Discussion
The transit system here in Halifax sucks , and it’s not helped by the landscape. It’s a harbour town with steep hills so the streets go everywhere. It’s not a grid. And the busses have long stopped by the time the gigs end. Cabs out to the burbs are pricey. So I’m thankful to put everything in the car and go. -
I bought this Talman to be a mod project after seeing one that had been fitted with a Tbird pickup. I liked the look. So I found one and dropped a Bird pickup there. I’ll probably change the pots and tuners , and have an older grey bobbin Pbass pickup that might make an appearance. The stock bass was neck heavy , and the neck certainly is substantial. I’m ok with chunky necks. I’m enjoying this.

Bergantino Forte , I have the original model with the compressor. Clean and transparent , modern hifi , with some serious slam. The more recent model has a drive channel instead of the compressor. Very simple , stripped down amp , very easy to dial in. Recently I did pick up a wonderful tube pre and have been using the back end of my Forte to power it.

Good to hear it’s working again. I have the old GK MB150 , the classic with the 12 in speaker. I blew it up , and loved it enough to get it repaired. I also had a GK MB 200 mini Class D head go down after the fan stopped working. It overheated and took out the ICE chip. Once again I really loved that little amp and got it fixed. I still have both GKs , and they’re doing well. you should try and find a qualified repair person in your area. Just in case …
