1. Hey yo, I fancy a change of head - had this baby for the past 5+ years and it's served me well. Fully serviced, PAT tested, tubes replaced regularly and gigged often! It's been used as a gig and studio rig - it's awesome head, very loud and plenty of different cab configurations / tone options. I've had it wired up to a multitude of cabinet types and it's sounded sweet as hell on every one. I couldn't really ask for anything better, but tbh, I just fancy a change. My metal band will soon be going on permanent hiatus due to our drummer making moves for another town, so I'm feeling a bit down in the dumps about the whole music thing and hoping some new toys to play with will perk me up Technical specs: RMS Power Output: 300-Watts x 2/900 (mono-bridged @ 8 Ohms) RMS Power Output: 490-Watts x 2/1200 (mono-bridged @ 4 Ohms) RMS Power Output (2 Ohms): 600-Watts x 2 Preamp: Tubes (3 x 12AX7) Power Amp: Solid State Tone Controls: 3-Band Mid Tone Control: 5-Position Graphic EQ: Yes, 9-Band Ultra Low/High Boosts: Yes Balanced Line Out: Yes x 2 Pre/Post with Level Effects Loop: Yes x 2 Preamp Out/Power Amp In: Yes x 2 Dimensions (W x H x D inches): 19 x 5.6 x 15.5 Weight: 39.5 Pounds Product Page: http://www.ampeg.com/products/pro/svt4pro/ Manual : http://www.ampeg.com/pdf/SVT4PRO.pdf It obviously has a bit of rack rash, but otherwise it's in very good condition for its age and usage - all knobs and switches work fine without any kind of noise or interference. I'm at work so I have no picture right now, but I have plenty at home and will post later on. Looking for either £600 or a swap with a Gallien-Krueger 2001RB or a high-powered Mark Bass, though I would prefer the Gallien-Krueger.

Loop Pedal

Well, I got it yesterday and had a fiddle at home with my little practice amp - seems ok so far! Bit noisy on play back, but I'll see how it works on my main rig before throwing it against a wall There are a lot more features on it than I need - the drum machine for one, but you can turn that off. It's also opened up another opportunity to me - foot activated samples! I've wanted to play about with samples in the band for a while now, and if it works right, I'll be able to record a sample from the studio then activate it whenever I need to. If I start using it seriously, I may invest in the additional Boss FS-6 foot switch so I can switch between phrases and set the tempo... Will update with more info once I've had a play with it at practice tonight.
3. Erm, the sticker on the side says "The Reserved". I didn't check them out - I'm not in to punk, so wasn't really any interest to me. The previous owner said they were signed, lived in London for a bit, then broke up. No idea if it was the truth or not!

Loop Pedal

Well, I took the initiative and bought an RC-2, should arrive tomorrow so I'll find out myself I'm worried more about it affecting my sound than what it can do - the RC-2 seems more than adequate for my requirements. Looks like I may be able to record samples on to it too, which is great as I was looking to do that in the future as well.
5. Indeed. These things are built to last, plus they're a lot louder and clearer than a standard 8x10 Ampeg cab.

Loop Pedal

Hey all, I'm always looking around these forums, but rarely post anything - just the odd advert to buy or sell something. However, I've decent reason to do so now, so here goes My band has recently changed around quite a bit - we're back down to drums, bass and one guitarist (I'm playing bass) and we're currently going over some of the songs I wrote that were initially intended for two guitars. Most of the stuff works, but there are certain sections that could do with filling out. In one particular song, there were two distinctive guitar lines in a quiet section, and I'm doing a solo. This second guitar line was a fundamental part of the song (and we really like the second guitar line that's still being played), but I've managed to do the original guitar line with the higher register on my 6 string, and a bit of delay. I can't, however, play my solo at the same time, though I do have plenty of time to record a loop before I go in to the solo. For this reason, I thought back to my old GT6-B that had a looper on it... just done a bit of research, and can only find the BOSS pedals - RC-50, RC-2 and RC-20XL. The problem with my GT6-B, was it sounded bloody horrible (the unit in general, not the looper). My question is - has anyone got any experience with these pedals (or any other live samplers / loopers), how do they fair with a bass signal (I play a 6 string, and I'm always concerned about the lower register not picking up properly), and do they modify the signal in any way? I'm very particular about my sound and I don't want a digital pedal to affect or alias my tone. Any replies would be appreciated - thanks up front
7. The HF drivers are on the top right of each set of 4 drivers. they're both still the original ones. There's a horn control on the back, I had it set to half way when I was using it and it definitely brought out the high end on my 6 string no problem. Not too noisy either... they're present, but not overpowering. With my SVT-4 Pro I could pretty much achieve any sound I wanted... depends what you want. Very clear sounding cabinet. The cab is extremely well built - I believe it's been toured extensively by the band who used it before me (and I used it for at least 40 gigs). Apparently it's been used by quite a few celebrities too... I seriously love the sound of it, but I've managed to get the same sound from two Shroeder cabs, which are more compact and easier to move. I don't think they've manufacturered this cab for quite some time... not seen any others around or heard of anyone else using them though. If I was ever in a position to have roadies, I'd have a stack of them!
8. Sorry, I bought it in 2006 - just looked at my ebay emails Feels like a lot longer... And looks like they were released in 2003! My bad
9. I believe they were already broken when I purchased it second hand from a signed punk band - the previous owner didn't seem to understand cabs and amps though... I've owned it for around 5/6 years, only recently stopped using it. It came with an Ampeg SVT-4 Pro, which is what I'm still using with my Schroeders. The replacement speakers took around 12 months to arrive, direct from Ampeg (or Loud Technologies, their supplier / parent) in America. I didn't want to replace them with anything less. And yes, the 12 month wait was excruciating!
10. Sorry mods - can you move this to amps and cabs please, I just clicked New Topic after my last post
11. Used condition, has an emblem on one side and a rather large rip in the tolex. If you're bothered about that kind of thing, I would get the tolex redone. I've replaced 3 of the speakers in it as they went at one point. This cab is damned awesome - I love it, and it's a shame to let it go, but I'm not using it now I have my Schroeder cabinets - I practice up 4 flights of stairs, and it's just too big to move often! Manual with all specs below: http://www.ampeg.com/pdf/SVT810HPC.pdf Can get a current picture if required, all the ones I have at the moment are before the big rip on the side occurred. Can arrange to deliver for an additional cost depending on where you live. £800 o.n.o.
12. http://www.tech21nyc.com/products/sansamp/rbi.html Bought November 2008, I would say it's as new - not even got any rack rash. Never gigged, used a few times at practice but I can't do anything with it I can't with my top-end Amp and pedals combined, so it's gotta go. Original box, instructions and packaging. £250 including postage. No offers. Will stick it in my studio if I can't sell it for that.
13. I've been a talkbass member longer than I've been a member here. Only because I found it in a Google search years ago and only came here to buy something initially... Got to a point now where I rarely ask about specific bass things - I only use the 'net to buy / sell things really
14. And how much for both cabs?
15. What impedance / wattage are the two cabs? I've an Ampeg 8x10 for trade, but buying is also an option...
16. Interested... PMed!
17. Still looking around for the right deal for this... very interested in swaps for Mark Bass and Schroeder cabs of the same power... 2 x 4x10s preferred... Gonna miss this when it goes, but I just need to down size a little bit.
18. Damn, which i'd noticed this previously... I have an Ampeg 8x10 (1500W) for sale at the moment (look at my sig)... and I'm willing to swap it for 2 x 4x10s? Long shot, but are are they both still available?
19. Bump for Nick He was recommended by MythSte a few months back on another forum we both use. My Blackpool based bass teacher disappeared and there are still massive holes in my bass playing so I wanted to keep it going! Suffice to say... I won't look back now. He's got a laid back but professional approach to teaching, which is exactly what I need. He's leaps and bounds above the last teacher I had who, whilst being an extremely good bass player, tended to spend more time "showing off" than actually passing on knowledge, and didn't stick to a structure! I almost feel as if I'm starting again and I've wasted my money in the past! I travel from Blackpool (about 40 mins drive) once a week for one hour lessons. Nick has a way of making the penny drop with everything we've covered so far... he hasn't struggled to answer any question (and convince me that he knows what he's talking about) whether it be theory or practical, and I get the impression I ask some difficult questions that we shouldn't be covering in the early grades! For the first lesson he sat me down with a brew and asked me what I wanted - what I've got is a structured lesson taking me through the grades, that can quite often break off down other paths (because I want them to, not because we get distracted!). It feels like I'm in control of the lesson... but Nick directs it and stops it from going off course (as I blatantly don't know what I'm doing most of the time! ). For example; I asked if we could go through a cover I was struggling with for one lesson (breaking away from the RGT grades we're going through). The next time I came he had three different versions of the song ready, all in different keys, all with tabs and sheet music available. We didn't just go through the notes and the key changes, we went through the whys and whats. He obviously plans every lesson and caters for every eventuality! The travelling is a bit of a nightmare for me (especially after a Friday night out ;P), but it's certainly worth every mile and every last penny. In summary, I would, and have, recommended Nick to anyone... I've been a "competent" player for a while now, but I learn something new every single lesson, and everything he's taught me has come in handy in my band, song writing and recording studio. I hope to use him for a long time in the future and bleed him of every last bit of musical knowledge I can
20. If only it was 4ohms, I'd have it off you
21. I'm almost there... I like everything I have, my main bass is sweet as hell and my rig is righteous. I just need to make the cab easier to carry

MTD 635

That's a lovely sixer!
23. Never used a limiter in my effects chain, but I use them all the time in the studio when recording / mixing / mastering. Limiters are intended to limit the final signal from clipping and level out any peaks (along with a compressor), so I would imagine you would want to keep it at the end...
24. The BF2B still for sale? If so, I'll have it
25. A bit of blurb I found on another forum in relation to solid state amps:
Most solid state power amps and a small amount of amp heads are “stereo” containing 2 separate power amp sections. This allows you to connect more cabinets to the amp, and of course gives you more wattage. Most of these stereo amps can be run in “bridged mode”. This connects the two amplifiers together and requires you to hit a switch when the amp is off, and to hook up your speaker cable differently, (usually by connecting a banana jack to the positive terminal of both 5 way output jacks on the back of the amp. When running in bridged mode each amp “sees” ½ of the total impedance of the cabinets connected to it. Therefore, an amp rated at 4 ohms minimum per side that will put out 300 watts into 4 ohms per side can only be safely bridged into an 8 ohm load, and will put out 600 watts into the 8 ohm cabinet. Most amplifiers only safely power a minimum of 4 ohm loads, however, more and more amplifiers have been produced that handle 2 ohm minimum loads, which is good news for us, as we can run a good number of cabinets in different combinations. As a last point, you may have noticed that the ratings for our “typical amplifier didn’t double each time the impedance of the load was cut in half. Why not? Well, in a perfect world, an amplifier that put out 200 watts into 8 ohms would put out 400 watts into 4 ohms and 800 watts into 2 ohms. In the real world, other consideration, (such as thermal limits), limit the actual number of watts an amplifier will safely produce at a given impedance.
OK, so, this pretty much explains my current situation - I run an Ampeg SVT-4 PRO, which has the following output power ratings: 1600 Watts Mono-Bridged @ 4 Ohms (1200 Watts Continuous) 1200 Watts Mono-Bridged @ 8 Ohms (900 Watts Continuous) 2 x 900 Watts @ 2 Ohms (600 Watts Continuous) 2 x 625 Watts @ 4 Ohms (490 Watts Continuous) 2 x 350 Watts @ 8 Ohms (300 Watts Continuous) I currently run it in to a single Ampeg 8x10 running @ 4ohms through the single mono-bridged output, whice gives me the maximum output I can get with the amp, which is great. However, I'm looking at "downgrading" and getting two new cabs to replace the single 8x10 and its too damn heavy. Looking at getting a 4x10 @ 4ohms (EDEN D410XST) and a 1x18 at 8ohms (EDEN D118XL). I'll be running them in stereo mode in order to take advantage of my crossover control. Am I right in my calculations here: Total cab impedance: (4/2)+(8/2) = 6ohms Total "visible" impedance to the amp in stereo mode: 6/2 = 3ohms So the mimimum load on the head would be 3ohms, which puts me between 625W and 900W output per side? The EDEN D118XL is 500W output, and the EDEN D410XST is 1000W output. Does this mean that the D118XL will be overloaded? Or will the wattage be added together too? I don't know how this bit works - I'm afraid one of the bi-amps will blow the D118XL?
