2. Never used a limiter in my effects chain, but I use them all the time in the studio when recording / mixing / mastering. Limiters are intended to limit the final signal from clipping and level out any peaks (along with a compressor), so I would imagine you would want to keep it at the end...
3. The BF2B still for sale? If so, I'll have it
4. A bit of blurb I found on another forum in relation to solid state amps:
Most solid state power amps and a small amount of amp heads are “stereo” containing 2 separate power amp sections. This allows you to connect more cabinets to the amp, and of course gives you more wattage. Most of these stereo amps can be run in “bridged mode”. This connects the two amplifiers together and requires you to hit a switch when the amp is off, and to hook up your speaker cable differently, (usually by connecting a banana jack to the positive terminal of both 5 way output jacks on the back of the amp. When running in bridged mode each amp “sees” ½ of the total impedance of the cabinets connected to it. Therefore, an amp rated at 4 ohms minimum per side that will put out 300 watts into 4 ohms per side can only be safely bridged into an 8 ohm load, and will put out 600 watts into the 8 ohm cabinet. Most amplifiers only safely power a minimum of 4 ohm loads, however, more and more amplifiers have been produced that handle 2 ohm minimum loads, which is good news for us, as we can run a good number of cabinets in different combinations. As a last point, you may have noticed that the ratings for our “typical amplifier didn’t double each time the impedance of the load was cut in half. Why not? Well, in a perfect world, an amplifier that put out 200 watts into 8 ohms would put out 400 watts into 4 ohms and 800 watts into 2 ohms. In the real world, other consideration, (such as thermal limits), limit the actual number of watts an amplifier will safely produce at a given impedance.
OK, so, this pretty much explains my current situation - I run an Ampeg SVT-4 PRO, which has the following output power ratings: 1600 Watts Mono-Bridged @ 4 Ohms (1200 Watts Continuous) 1200 Watts Mono-Bridged @ 8 Ohms (900 Watts Continuous) 2 x 900 Watts @ 2 Ohms (600 Watts Continuous) 2 x 625 Watts @ 4 Ohms (490 Watts Continuous) 2 x 350 Watts @ 8 Ohms (300 Watts Continuous) I currently run it in to a single Ampeg 8x10 running @ 4ohms through the single mono-bridged output, whice gives me the maximum output I can get with the amp, which is great. However, I'm looking at "downgrading" and getting two new cabs to replace the single 8x10 and its too damn heavy. Looking at getting a 4x10 @ 4ohms (EDEN D410XST) and a 1x18 at 8ohms (EDEN D118XL). I'll be running them in stereo mode in order to take advantage of my crossover control. Am I right in my calculations here: Total cab impedance: (4/2)+(8/2) = 6ohms Total "visible" impedance to the amp in stereo mode: 6/2 = 3ohms So the mimimum load on the head would be 3ohms, which puts me between 625W and 900W output per side? The EDEN D118XL is 500W output, and the EDEN D410XST is 1000W output. Does this mean that the D118XL will be overloaded? Or will the wattage be added together too? I don't know how this bit works - I'm afraid one of the bi-amps will blow the D118XL?
5. Thanks for that Ste I'm not really willing to negotiate prices on this as I've no need to sell it really, but I'm more than willing to negotiate for some decent replacement cabs, even if they're not worth the same. I'm currently looking in to the Eden cabs and seeing if I can match my head's outputs / impedance to different configurations. I run an SVT-4 PRO.
6. * bump * Not really in a rush to sell this, but would definitely consider any decent trade offers... looking to replace it with two cabs with lots of clarity and power.
7. Bump. A bit of interest, but nothing solid yet!
8. Just bought myself a first hand X-Blender, and could do with another one but it just won't fit on my pedal board Good price too!
9.
that's quite a bit more than i weigh
It's quite a bit less than I weigh I can manage the thing, but it's just a ballache.
10. * bump * Would also consider a trade for two 4x10s, or a 4x10 and a 1x15/18 that can deal with my head's output (SVT-4 Pro). Also iterested in Schroeder cabs and Mesa cabs... Also, lowered price to £1000 for this cab.
11. So, I've bit the bullet and decided to "downgrade" my bass cab. The thing's just not practical for me and I'm currently searching for alternatives at the same quality and power. Here is the manual: http://www.ampeg.com/pdf/SVT810HPC.pdf The specs:
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS: TYPE 8x10 Bass Enclosure FREQ RESPONSE (+/-3dB) 50Hz – 18kHz (±3dB) USABLE LOW FREQ (-10dB) 40Hz (-10dB) RMS POWER HANDLING 1500 watts PEAK POWER HANDLING 3000 watts CROSSOVER FREQUENCY 6kHz IMPEDANCE 4 ohms SENSITIVITY 100dB SPL 1w/1m MAXIMUM SPL 131dB COMPONENTS 6 Custom Designed 200 watt cast frame 10” full range speakers 2 Custom Designed 200 watt cast frame 10” coaxial speakers with 1” HF drivers DIMENSIONS (H x W x D) 48” x 26” x 16” WEIGHT 205 lbs.
Stock photo: And a review from Harmony Central. http://namm.harmony-central.com/SNAMM03/Co...SVT-810HPC.html This is the highest quality and loudest Ampeg bass cabs on the market. It handles anying up to 1500W / 3000W peak at 4ohms, has nuetrik connectors as well as TR connectors, a horn control on the back which controls two High Frequency drivers (one out of each set of 4 10" speakers). As far as I can tell, Ampeg don't sell these anymore and I can't find them anywhere first or second hand. If anyone decides to do research and finds them anywhere, please let me know. This cab has been gigged... 4 of the speakers have been replaced, and there are a few scuff / scratch marks on the tolex (one rather large one), but it still works as new and it's got a bloody lovely tone. I was considering keeping it for my recording studio, but most people bring in their own amps anyway. Been told this particular cab has been used by the following artists, but of course, I can't be sure
Robin Guy - drummer for Bruce Dickinson solo project from Iron maiden, also played drums for Faith no More on TOTP 1998. Now plays for Rachel Stamp Jarvis Cocker - the guy from Pulp who everyone knows Stan armstrong - from The Dickies, massive punk band The Bass player from The Smiths - cant remember his name. Paul McGuigan - Ex Oasis bass player now does session work with abbey road studios. My Chemical Romance Tour and was also used buy Hunter from AFI as his f***ed up in Berlin a few others but you will get bored,
I'm looking for £1,200 ovno. I can provide pictures of it if you want, and will deliver anywhere between Blackpool & Manchester for free (as long as the offer is reasonable). If interested, or you want to give it a go, give me a call on 07740 354453.

13. How's this thing on the low B? Potentially detuning to low A or lower at some point too?
14. Done a search, but not found anything specific on extended range bases... I use an Ibanez 6 string tuned BEADGC and I'm looking to move to wireless so I can put a bit more of a show on Therefore I need a wireless kit that can handle 15Hz - 300Hz (I think that's around the highest my bass will hit on the last string of the high C?) and doesn't affect my tone. Price not an issue... needs to be easily available in the UK - been recommended kits that you can only get hold of in America - no use to me really! Any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Compression

When I wrote that, I knew I'd regret it Yeah I agree - but the problem is I don't have too much money to keep spending on compressors till I've found one I like, and no-one around here has many in stock!

Compression

I base a lot of my compressor opinion on this article: http://www.ev-b.com/compressors.html And here's the review for thr 3630: http://www.ev-b.com/compressors.html#3630 Not so great

GT6B...

I had a GT6-B for about 2.5 years... sold it to the man above (Ste_m3) about 3 days ago. Kinda regretting it, but at the same time I just had no use for all the features. The GT6-B is a damn good pedal... there's more to it than you initially think - it literally allows you to chain anything to anything, in any order, save it, recall it, assign even SINGLE parameters to each pedal / the expression pedal etc... even save different settings for different songs. If you have the time and the patience to set it up, it can do almost anything for you. You can even record a bass loop, have it play back then maybe play something over it in a higher octave / with a different effect... brilliant! The only reason I sold it is I just don't use it to it's full potential + the effects aren't as good as the very few single pedals I'd need. If anyone needs any specific help on it, ask away / PM me - I'll try my best It did take me a while to master the thing... and it's very easy to completely break a patch without thinking about it!

Compression

I'm looking to spend as much as needed on a compressor - split between getting a rack mounted unit or a pedal. I've tried a few pedals out, none of them have been what I'm looking for just yet... Any recommendations? I'm going to be using it sparingly, as a boost during solos / middle sections... been recommended a Demeter compulator or an EBS Multicomp already, but they're very hard to get hold of in the UK...

Newbie :)

Thanks! And oh yeah, certainly not new to GAS ;P It's a term I've been well and truely in bed with for a few years now... keeps getting the cold shoulder, but it's back again at the moment for pedals :| Damn it!

Newbie :)

Hey all, Been recommended this site by a friend, Stephen - I'm currently registered on talkbass.com and I run www.blackpoolbands.co.uk. I play in a band called "Hind-D" based in Blackpool - after 2 years of looking we've finally got a singer so we will be gigging big time again soon Check us out on www.hindd.co.uk or www.myspace.com/hindd. We're hard rock / metal, and will be getting some vocals on our tracks very soon (recording this weekend). Looking for gig swaps, so if anyone likes our stuff, give me a PM I also run a studio at my house - 24 channel Sountracs desk and 2x8x8 M-Audio Delta 1010's running Neundo 3. Various mics etc... My set up is as follows: Ampeg SVT-4 PRO Head Ampeg 810HPC 8x10 bass cab Ibanez BTB 556MP 6 string bass (main) Fender Jazz Active Deluxe 4 string (back up) Just sold my Boss GT6-be and I'm moving on to single pedals. Currently got: * Line6 Echo Park Looking to buy (asap): * Compressor Pedal (EBS MultiComp OR Demeter Compulator) * Tuner (Korg Rackmount or Korg Pedal) * Some really, really nice distorition for metal. Tried the following distortion / fuzz pedals: * Ken Multi Fuzz MFZ-7 * All the distortion settings on the GT6-be - only one, low rumbly fuzz with the bass turned all the way to +50, is near to what I want * EHX Big Muff Russian (currently for sale) * EHX Big Muff USA Want something that's got a lot of low end, and cuts through... I'm a bit of a gear whore, as you can probably tell by now ;P Too long for a first post? Ahhhh... sorry ;P
