1. a bit off track, but my sopy of Metal Gear Solid for the Playstation...my favourite game ever!
2. when anothony jackson talked about playing his contrabass he stated that it makes more musical sense to have a 'Bass guitar' as a six string, and found it bizarre that leo invented one with four. I can't rememberwhy but if you can find it its quite an interesting discussion on the matter of having a 6 string. I play a 6 string and I love to mess aroud and make little tunes with the extra strings as I now have the range if I want to use it, but i can't still play the simple stuff if I want! Best of both worlds
3.
The tapping bit at the beginning of Had Enough from the first Mr Big album. I was almost there, but ran out of patience. I got the bit at the end nailed though! Portrait of Tracy by Jaco - simply because my hands aren't physically capable of stretching far enough for one of the artificial harmonics.
are you talking about the c harmonic with the artificial d sharp? What I do is finger 2nd fret and place my thumb on the string a little way before the neck pickup and pluck below it....thats a rubbish explanation but something like that. I love paying sir duke, great tune.
4. 19 year-old Male who started Bass solely because of Jason Newsted. Now am more influenced by Anthony Jackson, Michel Camilo, Stevie Wonder, Mastodon and Bach. I always try and make my bass interesting, whether that means using root notes in different rythms to the guitars/piano/drums or to include strange little fills or slides or just having a cool little line but have to always keep and add to the song. Prodominently finger style (while using lots of dead notes, they are fun), slapping on a four string (I'm crap on six with it, needs practice) and taps alot for personal enjoyment. I beleive that if you think you've heard it all you havn't heard enough. You can always learn from other musicians, instruments and styles. Even if you don't like the music, 'cause sometimes we don't.
5.
An interesting point, Funkydunc. I too went 4 to 5 to 4. Now I'm trying 6! Is it that the grass is always greener on the other side? My main observation so far, is this. Having more than 4 strings is more fun when twiddling at home on your own, but come the gig, the number of strings is less important than the on-the-spot response to the rest of the band and audience, Same goes with gear. Play at home with gadgets and have fun, but on the night, keep it simple. I know what you mean by 'freedom'. I call it Expression. When you can actually hear on stage all that you are playing, especially the subtle things, you start to want to go for 'feel' and improvising spontaneously. I know, I know, it's nowt to do with the number of strings. BUT I can't help link Simplicity with Soul. i.e. the more stripped down things are, the more you want to get out of what you are left with. I'll quit there, because I'm sounding like a tw*t
Probably why Precisions are so popular with so many people.
6. Thanks for the suggestions guys, its a real help!!
7. I love funk and disco, its great, gets your booty shaking like nothing else! However, I've just realised I don't know that many songs, just a couple of Jamiroquai tunes. 15. Its sad to hear when something like this happens especially to muscians, If this story doesn't encourage your to think about ear protection with at least sleeping ear pieces you shouldn't be allowed to have ears...ok extreme.

17. One track that I loved learning was Rio by Duran Duran. Great fun and makes you practice those muted notes, they're everywhere!!!! One of my favourite tracks to play now. Give it a go...
18. Bush, hijacked, someone mention al-kieda to make this thread sense! Yeah but seriously these basses are great, I loved mine (especially so as it was my first) and this would make a great back-up or just pick-up-and-play to leave around the house. Maybe some pics would generate some interest?
