    Etienne just visited me in Glasgow to collect my (now his) double bass & K&K pickup. He's been an absolute gent and a total pleasure to deal with - in addition to driving all the way from Liverpool to make the deal possible, he even bought me dinner after we'd got the bass packed in the car. I had a lot of fun chatting to him about what he's been up to over the years and am delighted that my bass is going to such a good home. As Scooby says, Etienne is a credit to the bass community indeed.

It's strung with innovation silver slaps which were installed and setup by the Violin Shoppe Glasgow. These strings are fabulous for the styles I was into and are included in the price. It has a couple of small cosmetic dings from playing in small places but has otherwise had an easy life and been well cared for. It comes with a padded gig bag, rosin, and bow, as well as the original strings. You can hear some home recordings on [url="http://www.theurbanbassman.com/music.html"]here[/url]. I purchased it from Mev Taylor's in Edinburgh for £750. I started off by hiring it first and then fell in love with it, but even though it was a hire-to-buy, it was brand new when I got it (Jan 2011). I'm in the Westend of Glasgow.     yup sounds good. happy to sell the ext cab on its own. PM with some thoughts how you'd like it packed? Happy just to bubble wrap and cardboard box if that suits you? If so let me know and I'll check out costs, hopefully won't be much for the packaging if I can scrounge some of the padding and cardboard.

    £200 for this decent Ashdown Mag Evo II 300W C115 (15 inch combo) with a Mag 210T Deep (2 by 10 inch extension cabinet). Very good condition. It's got a great sound and was brilliant the few times I used it live (southern rock). According to a double bassist that shared a gig with us, it was better than his bespoke DB rig sound wise and I subsequently also used it with DB when transport allowed. The tradeoff is that this is heavier, at 28kg a piece! I'm going for a promotion at work and so stepping back from the bass. This therefore is decorating my lovely warm living room but it need not be - it could be doing what it is designed to do with you instead! I'm willing to split especially if both bits can find a home straightaway, but will give a good deal to take them both together: £200. Separately, I reckon £160 for the combo and £80 for extension cab. I reckon the combo is £330 new and the extension cab £190. They're currently in the west end of Glasgow (Charing Cross, by J18 on the M8). Collection is preferred, that way you can check them over and have a play (bring your bass). I'd be happy to pack them up for shipping but would need to hear from you how you'd like them packed and would need to charge any packaging and shipping at cost. My time and care'd be free of course though. I know some folks work for couriers etc that make the otherwise eye watering shipping on something like this more reasonable.     kinda tempted for the double bass at acoustic sessions but only ever tried one of these in the local store with a plank... was surprisingly fun though :-) so have a bump on me.

    Got that book too and it has been open on my music stand on the first page of open string exercises for months.... embarrassing.

    Aye fair enough, I had somehow got the impression you'd only just bought it (but rereading your post dunno quite how). Sounds like you managed to be pretty handy with the file though so well done. My action is a shade low at the moment, can't quite get under the G string to snap it without worrying I'll misfire, but not doing that much slap so adjustable bridge may make sense. If you want to PM me your number I'll give you a bell in the afternoon if that suits.

    Rockabillybob1 seems to have had a pretty bad experience with the blonde rockabilly stentors, but the (quite different model) stentor 1950C that I have seems to be a far better machine in that price range - not that I'm slapping it. Things like the finish are just fine, in fact it gets compliments. Minimal setup has been required. The fingerboard has had a wee high spot taken off by the nut at the E string but the rest was flat. I've been really happy with it - although my opinion comes with a health warning - it's my first double bass and I've had it less than a year. Maybe mine was a Monday morning job and that one a Friday afternoon .... or the trainees were on the rockabilly line that week or something.

Having said that, I saw someone say somewhere they needed to re-rosin their bow every 10-15min for these strings. A colleague played bass for 30 years and says he has the bees knees in terms of really sticky rosin (I have some fairly plasticky stuff) so I may well try this again when the "good" rosin comes out! I'm not thinking of doing very much arco with them at all... but curious mainly....

    Left wrist had been hurting a bit lately. Played a song recorded at a gig to Jennifer at my lesson on Monday, she suggested pulling back the power to about 30%. Did so at rehearsal tonight and not only has the song been transformed into something that, according to the band, now flows instead of being frenetic, but it felt like I could have played it a couple of times over no problem whereas in the past that song alone was enough to make my hand ache. FWIW, it's almost a bossa nova (if an americana/country/blues song can be!), just its mainly 1 +3 rather than always +1 +3. Prior to that, I'd just assumed that playing softer would have sucked the energy out of the song and was tantamount to admitting I was a wuss, but it's had totally the opposite effect here ..... mind you this is pizz not slap :-)

    **SOLD** I've got a rather nice Shadow SH950 double-element piezo pickup doing nothing right now - it's yours for £70 posted in the UK. No box, velcro has lost its stickiness but otherwise tip top condition. Bought for £80, gigged a few times, great sound. Just happened to pick up a K+K golden trinity (includes a microphone) in anticipation of some recording so now the SH950 is surplus to requirements. I was thinking of grafting it into the stereo plug in the Golden Trinity to replace the single element bassmax but Brewster posting a "pickup wanted" ad made me think of selling it instead.... especially since I've just bought a new set of strings.
