1. I'm very interested, but I have to know - is it worth converting my Jazz's jack into a side jack for this nice bit of hardware, or is it a cardinal sin to butcher my main bass for an active EQ? Ta, Stef.
2. What I would say, is that if you're new to Jazz Basses, don't get some really horrible tacky replica; you're always going to have bad preconceptions of it in the future. If you want a replica, get a replica made by the same company, i.e. Squier. I had a Vintage Mod Squier for my first bass and even though the action was pretty high toward the top end of the neck, it was still very easy to play at the bottom, and most importantly it still produced a really nice sound. A brand new £60 copy is, ultimately, going to be God-awful. Get hold of a second/third/fourth hand decent-model Squier from here, they're well worth the money.
3. I had one of these from new for about two and a half years (it taught me how to play!) before I sold it to Tom on here. It's a damn good bass, and even with a pretty high action as mine did, it's really comfortable to play, especially for slapping. Tonally it's pretty spot on too, and HOW pretty is it? I really can't fault the bass for that price - get it bought.
4. That's really very beautiful - and I hate 5 strings (Always been a four string man personally). £2300 is a lot for any bass though... is that really worth it?
5. I wish I knew people who give out upright basses.
6. Wow. I almost feel guilty for selling mine at £150! An absolute STEAL this - the work that needs doing is next to minimal!
7. Oops... what an idiot. Of course it's not a Mustang... I just saw the tiny, dead central pickup and thought of it. I might join you with the bass + smash over head idea Andy
8. I started out with a pick (as I'm sure most did?) but now I seem to have lost all pick-rhythm! I now find using four fingers in an oscillating movement with a thumb rest is the best way to play for fast songs. It comes more natural to me, but I think that's more likely to be because I'm unorthodox with dodgy technique, not because I'm the next Stanley Clarke!
9. Only one single coil pickup, and hardly attractive... is this not a totally ruined Mustang?
10. Thank the Lord I'm Six foot Four - I don't feel bass weight issues!
11. That is gorgeous. Wow. I've never had a go at a proper fullsize double, my only upright experience was ten minutes on a cheap Stagg thing at PMT (hehe) Manchester. That just looks like it would be a dream to play. Major, major jealousy here!
12. Yum. Japanese Jazzes are just straight-up gorgeous.
13. Sorry fellas, I was away all yesterday watching Muse in Liverpool! You've both made very nice offers. I'll get back to you both now, but bear in mind you've both made similar offers! (Granted, one has agreed their own courier which is favourable at the moment - but tempt me! ^_^ You've both now got my number if you need to get hold of me too
14. I'll get this up on the first page for the final time with an asking price of somewhere around £150-160, with payment in full ASAP! It's too good a bass to be third choice - someone take it even if it's just for quick jam sessions! Or else it looks like I'm off to eBay
15.
I preferred the plain ol white one.
Agreed... I just don't like tortoise shell scratchplates! I have a tort red one with my white Jap Jazz and I keep meaning to put something more plain on it, maybe a light blue one? Or is that just me trying to be toooo cool?
16. That, my friend, is arguably the most beautiful bass I've seen, ever. Whoever is rich enough to own that beauty will have my jealousy from now until the end of time. Wow.
17. Well, buying a Fender Japanese Jazz reissue with money I barely had has rendered me poor for the moment. I've been considering it for a while, but with my latest purchase coming in, to raise some funds I'll have to get rid of the bass that I learned to play on... Full Bass: http://img140.imageshack.us/i/1000183n.jpg/ http://img442.imageshack.us/i/1000186m.jpg/ http://img140.imageshack.us/i/1000196q.jpg/ The only knock I could find (barring a tiny dent on the side that was difficult to clearly photograph) Just under the letter "B" : http://img442.imageshack.us/i/1000191.jpg/ !! Pardon the date in the right hand corner, these photos were taken with an old, terrible digital camera !! I got this two years ago, and it's been gigged a handful of times as a primary bass, and many more as a back up. The body and neck are in perfect condition, the only slight issue with the whole thing is the D and G strings havent been changed... at all! (Strange how resilient those two are, when I broke the E string a couple of weeks in and the A string not so long after! So the strings are past their best and a bit grubby, but besides that the bass is immaculate! So... the price. I'm looking for any acceptable cash offers - what would YOU pay for it? Bearing in mind it's pretty much as good as new, sounds almost as good (if not slightly different in tone, this has a more aggressive tone than the smooth Jap, which some may see as a good thing?) as the Jap that I bought, and come on - black on natural wood finish is very pretty, no? Please don't anyone take the Michael and offer tiny amounts, I have a price in my mind I'd like to reach. They're selling for around £250 brand new, and this baby isn't in much worse condition than that! Regarding what's been said about the Classic Vibe collection on here, the Vintage Mods are the predecessors to them, and I personally can't see the difference. Both are very, very good budget guitars, and you're unlikely to find a used one of these in such good nick! I'll put her in a Washburn bag as I never actually had a bag to start with! (the front pocket's gone kaput, but ah well!) Postal Courier* or collection from Bolton (just north of Manchester). Hope she interests one of you fellas, as I've loved every second of playing her! *I'm new to selling basses so I don't know the cheapest/best couriers to use, any pointers guys?
18. If I had £2000 to spend on a new bass, I definitely would not buy that. Take about 60-65% off the RRP and change the colour and I would possibly consider it, but then I may as well just get a Fender Aerodyne...?
19. What in the world drew you to the Mustang!?!? I haven't seen such a weird looking bass in a long time, which is a shame, as the rest of your family are gorgeous! I especially like the Gibson Thunderbird - very lovely (even though I personally can't get my head around 5 strings!)
20.
Kim Deal Fender Precision. She has to be the coolest Female Bass player of all time! or at least up there-definately better than Melissa Auf der Mar, D´Arcy Wretzky, Kim Gordon, Melanie Cambell and dare I say it, gulp, Tina Weymoth. Though I did read somewhere that she had to be told that bass strings need changing!hehe Still, amazing player and her basslines are the heart and soul of the Pixies sound I reckon. Based on Kim´s Fiesta/Coral red Fender Precision. as far as I remember, It is a 62 reissue (maybe one of the 83 ones?) So would have to be modeled on this. Worn Silver Pickguard shield obviously. and New Strings!
I like this! ------- Are there no Victor Wooten signatures knocking about? That yin/yang two piece thing he has going on is very cool. Maybe Fodera do one, but really I wouldn't want to remortgage the house for it!
21. I've only ever played a Musicman once, and although I thought it was quite comfortable to play, and sounded decent (though it was through a monstrous Mesa Boogie) - I just couldn't justify paying £1300 for it. I know Musicman basses are meant to be the Holy Grail of non-custom made guitars, but for one they're hideous, and for two, they seem massively overpriced for what they are. Ready to be shot down by the masses, but I just never "got" their appeal.
22. I'm going to sound like such a tool here... but what the hell is a GAS? *embarrassed face* I'll hide in the corner and wait for the laughing to commence.
23. Right... the gorgeous white Jap Jazz is on its way. I'm far too excited for Thursday morning when the lovely DHL man brings me my new baby! Impulse buying - gotta love it. Shame that I've had to borrow £200 from the father, looks like I'm going to be working overtime to get him paid back. Or, I might sell my Squier Vintage Mod to one of you guys? Failing that, to eBay I shall venture!
24. Old Git... I don't think I have the four figure sum you'd want for it! Would you guys recommend £550 as a good price? I am actually in love with this beaut, and the money is ready to be gone from my account! Reckon I could get some money off though?
