1. After losing out on a MIJ (Salmon Pink) '62 Jazz Bass on eBay last night (probably to one of you evil people) due to being caught out by £1 in the last five seconds, I've decided I really need one in my life. Would anyone be willing to sell one, or know anyone who wants to sell one, or even any local stores* that are selling one? *Preferably NOT to be imported in from the US, or Far East - because I haven't yet got the balls and confidence to buy from abroad. If anyone can help me with my new lust, it would be much appreciated. Thanks!!
2. Boo. Serves me right for not coming on until now. That's a steal!
3. I always have my bass set to the same... bridge pickup on full, neck pickup off (reverse this if I'm in funk-mood). Then on the amp, Treble set to 2/3rds Middle to 1/3, bass to just less than full. I like my bass to be deep... I've never been one for tinny Jaco rip off horn-like tones.
4. Just to throw another one into the mix for you. Washburn T14 - I've had mine for about nine months now, gigged plenty of times, and there's never been a single problem/fault. Lovely and light with a nice action, I find it much easier to play than my Squier VM Jazz (which retails for a fair chunk more than the Washburn does...) Best thing is, places are pretty much giving them away, http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/en/t14-b/70932 £119? I'd snap their arm off for that price... you're getting a very, very good bass for pennies.
5. What do people think of half wound strings? I was considering getting some flatwounds recently, but discovered this half-breed hybrid, and was intrigued. And from a non-biased view, do the style of strings matter as a whole? Flatwounds are a bit bassier in my very limited experience (I had a go of a mate's American Jazz with flats on), but mega thumpy bass is not always what you want, is it?
6. Hola, I'm Stefan, at 17 year old bassist from sunny Bolton, south Lancashire. I inadvertently came to this site this evening from a link (can't even remember what was being searched for to be honest) and I've spent the last couple of hours reading through everything. I love it! I've been playing bass for almost two years now and I'd say I'm half decent, but I'm nowhere near the level I want to be. So, hopefully this site will point me in the direction of becoming the new James Jamerson or Victor Wooten? Well, maybe.. I've been creaming my jeans all evening at some of the basses you guys own... I'm only on a Squier Vintage Modified, and a Washburn T14 that I picked up for less than £80 because it was missing the back-plate. Surprisingly, that has now become my gigging bass, with the Squier just looking pretty in my room. Can't say I have a style that I try and replicate, I throw in bits and bobs from everywhere. I don't have any classical music / theory training, so anything I play of my own is played just because it sounds good; not necessarily techinically perfect. So, that's all a forum of bassists need to know about me. Hope you don't mind me joining the ranks!
